Is Youtube an acceptable source of entertainment for children?

Yes, I see no issue with kids under 13 watching YouTube.

No, I don't think YouTube is an appropriate site for kids under 13.

Do you think YouTube should be watched by kids 13 and under? Is it a good source of entertainment for them? Or is it a bad influence on their young impressionable minds? My little sister has attitude problems and she has started watching YouTube, and I notice her attitude is worse. She watches things like Jake Paul, JoJo Siwa, and other cancerous stuff like that. Parents also don't seem to grasp the fact that there's a ton of profanity on the platform and inappropriate content. What are your thoughts?

Young children reflect off things they like, often times warping their personality to match and fit in with people who also enjoy those videos. While YouTube is actually a good source of entertainment for learning and education (such as Minute physics and Minute Earth), there are cancerous videos as well such as YouTube Poops and Jake Paul. Giving unlimited access to YouTube is bad. There is porn on there, albeit it's trash, and content that many adults would find inappropriate for children. Monitoring what your kid watches is necessary if you don't want them watching Jake Paul. Plus, redtube exists, and it doesn't help that there's a thing called YouTube Red. If your child isn't careful, oh no.

  • I have found kids songs, shows and movies on youtube. Like anything on TV or movies, just monitor what they watch.

  • Unless you want your kid watching one of those creepy pedophile Elsa Spiderman videos, I wouldn't recommend it.

  • It's sometimes ok, like say they wanted to know how to build or fix something. However there's that time wasting, mind numbing, garbage that is people like Jake Paul

  • YSK: there is a segregated YouTube Kids app for family friendly content only....normal channels can't be watched there.

No, and not necessarily because of the content. It engrains into their young, impressionable minds that it's an honor to blindly follow people that are sometimes, if not usually total shitbags in real life. Being a large content creator is equivalent to being a better human being than anyone else, and thus, large content creators are the most knowledgable people on the planet. In other words, YouTube is one of the biggest culprits of the generation of blind sheep that we live in. I mean... ProtoOfSnagem (you know, HEYYEAYEA guy) has like 77K subscribers from ripping off a grand total of two videos that he didn't even make. Let that speak for itself.

    • If your kid gets hold of the TV remote they can watch Saw without the aid of the internet. There’s plenty of kid-friendly stuff on there, and then there’s a bunch of shit that they probably shouldn’t watch. YouTube is exactly the same.

    • YouTube has great content for children and frankly people of all ages, the issue is find that quality content under the crap. Honestly I don't believe in limiting what a child is exposed to, instead I believe parents should simply help a child understand what they are seeing and the implication of what they are watching. This doesn't mean I think that kids should be watching porn and other explicate content, but most of us had done so in our youth (or are currently doing so, you youngsters out there) and I'd like to think we're okay. About the only way porn affected me at all is it made me realize that some things aren't possible without being a trained professional.

      • Kids have ruined YouTube because parents see that their kids are watching mature content ( like videos that have people swearing) and complain about the content creator. They want to silence others just for their kid to be happy.

      • It depends on your son or daughters upbringing. Being exposed to inappropriate language is hardly going to affect a person who knows right from wrong. I expect my son to use his own filters in such situations. I trust him.

      • Even if someone finds something appropriate, theres always garbage pike Jake Paul and morons like him who corrupt kids minds in the recommended feed and on the home screen. Not to mention all those messed up, disturbing animations targeted towards children, esspecially the ones that use disney characters. Those are some sick -blam!-ers.

Yes, as long as you help advise on what should be watched and explain why something else is not good entertainment

          • YouTube really needs a kids sub-domain, like Netflix created all those years ago. Then YouTube can stop demonetizing adult content creators, and the kids would still be sheltered to the parents discretion. Everyone wins.

            • In my opinion I think kids should be able to watch videos on YouTube, there are plenty of good and kid friendly shows there such as the Good Mythical Morning videos But Parents should put restrictions on YouTube and make sure they know what their kids are watching, there are plenty of bad stuff in YouTube. I work with children in an after school program and I hear my 4th and 5th Graders talking about VanossGaming and H2ODelirolious, who are funny and hilarious gamers perfect for older viewers but not appropriate for children of that age.

If I say kids under thirteen shouldn't be allowed on Youtube, will videos like this still exist?

            • Youtube has a lot of cancer in it. There are a few gems but there is seriously a lot of cancer to be had there. Its best not to let it spread to impressionable kids until they develop a cancer resistance.

That's because she's watching shit like Jake Paul. It depends on what content you watch. There are many different genres of YouTube. You can find anything from gaming to education to beauty to comedy to, sadly, pure cancer. You sister found cancer before everything else, most likely because of how Jake Paul is so popular for being a dick in public. Edit: Also, YouTube kids. I don't know why, but nobody ever restricts their children to YouTube kids. All they have to do is block YouTube and allow YouTube kids.

            • It really all depends on wtf said kids watch. All i know, is that i see kids watching some weird ass shit on youtube. Minecraft and stuff like that is understandable, but it honestly all depends

            • Depends on what you watch. There are plenty of people who make family friendly. Also, doesn't YouTube Kids exist? No one should be watching Jake Paul.
