Honest conversation about trials.

Trials is completely broken in its current state. It needs to have divisions and a ranked system. I don't mind sweaty matches against evenly matched teams. What I do mind is getting pub stomped, or pub stomping others. Neither one makes me a better player and allows me to "git gud". I will continue to play it as it is for now and hope for some sort of ranked play it the future. I know there will be the argument that it's for the elite and only the best of the best. I understand that and see your point. My thought is why don't the best play the best and the worst play the worst. A ranked/division style of trials would make more sense and promote a healthier competitive style of game play over the current system. As it stands now, there seems to be 4 types of groups in trials. Group A can't get a win to save their lives. Group B can string together a few wins, but getting 5-7 is just out of their reach. Group C can get 7 wins and occasionally flawless. Group D thinks going flawless is easy and they can't understand why other people complain. With ranked play you would have a better chance of moving from one group to the other. As it stands now if you are in group A or B its a complete struggle to try to move to the next group because nobody wants to play with you . Make different sets of "reward gear" for each division. Give people a reason to come back and try to get better. The elite top 500 will have different trials gear than everyone else, and each bracket under them will have different gear. The elite can still be elite, and the rest of us unworthy peasants can sweat it out trying to move up to the next division. When playing with a mix of division levels in a party you would match off of the highest person in the team to help make it fair. I know none of this will happen, but I can hope for it. I fear if it stays like it is, trials will die and only the hard core will step in there, making it a terrible mess for anyone but the elite and locking up the only truly competitive endgame PVP from the masses. I know my opinion is highly unpopular when it comes to the truly hard core PVP beasts out there. You people are amazing and the best in the game. Let us non-Beasts play each other and try to "get gud" while you play each other. Maybe one day we will get on your level. This is my 2 cents. I'm prepared to be shredded now. Have a nice day. TL:DR Trials needs Ranked play with a tiered system where people play against similar skill level opponents instead of a grab bag of mixed matches and RNG to go flawless. TL::DR2 Dont be lazy and read the full post lol Edit 1: It completely surprises me the number of people who don't read the post and still make comments. To everyone that read the post it's obvious if you don't read it and leave a snide comment. Edit 2: I went flawless 2 times this weekend, I have 60-70 wins in trials. I'm not the best player but with a solid team I do win. My stats are ok, but I play with randoms most of the time. If I played with a solid team I'm sure they would be better. I still think trials should have a division system.

  • It would be an easy fix. Much like blizzard does with over watch competitive matches. They take six players and average their SR (season rating) and match the teams SR against a team who has a similar SR. Sometime you’re playing a team that is the same SR as yours or within a 20 point SR range. In case that confuses people I’ll explain with numbers; Team A has a team SR of 3600. Team B has a team SR of 3610. This could easily be done in trials. A player gains a certain amount of “rating” through competitive crucible matches. Then when he/she joins a four man team to do trials, the team is given an over all rating of 1000 (just putting random numbers here) and then they are put up against a team that will have a rating of 950-1050. You can have several brackets of ratings so you don’t have a team rating of 1000 go against a team rating of 3000. Lots of competing games do this so it’s not like it’s stealing from a company. It wouldn’t be hard to implement this into destiny PvP and into trials. It could even reset every week on Tuesday’s so players have to play five games of competitive matches in order to get their “ratings”. This would easily match top PvP players against top PvP players and leave the casuals to play against casuals.
