Why the Leviathan Raid is such a disappointment.

There are a lot of posts going around about why this Raid feels so disappointing compared to the others in D1. I had a thought I wanted to share which I think boils down the key issue with this raid. TL;DR - The main issue as I see it is that the Leviathan raid doesn't allow any room for heroes, only failures. Due to the mechanics-heavy focus each encounter requires every guardian to play an equal and very specific role. On the surface this sounds like a great way to promote teamwork, however in execution this comes off as dull and tedious. Rather than giving anyone on the team an opportunity to be the hero, this provides only the opportunity to be the weakest link. Dog sees you jump, WIPE!! Missed a Psion, WIPE!! One teammate falls in a hole, WIPE!! This not only gets boring quickly, but serves to drive a wedge between teammates and can quickly devolve into irritation, finger pointing, and abandonment especially when you're playing with LFG pick-up groups. I always come back to VoG because it demanded teamwork but not perfection. You could lose a teammate or two and claw your way back. Those clutch saves are part of what made it so much fun. How many times did you all cheer because your last 3 living fireteam members somehow pulled off confluxes or oracles? How many times were you outnumbered going into the final damage phase on Aksis, Aetheon, or Crota and somehow pulled it off? I, personally only learned to run the VoG Relic for Templar Challenge a couple months before D2 launched, and some of those completions were the most rewarding experiences I had in D1. Most of those raid encounters allowed room for someone on your team to be the hero, and that feels great not only for the one saving the day, but for the whole team. This raid feels exactly the opposite. There is no room to be the hero here, only to play your role or be the single member holding your team back from victory, and that doesn't feel good for anyone. It's a combination lock. There are only two ways opening a lock can go. You enter the combination correctly and it opens, or you do it incorrectly and do it again. And again. And again. And again.
