The Path We Choose Ch22: Amelia.

"Who are you?" The girl began trying to scrabble backwards, away from Myra. "It's alright! I won't hurt you!" Myra said quickly. Soren walked over. "Why are you talking to th..." He stopped abruptly. Myra whirled around and glared at him. Soren began to backpedal. "I'll go find Morown." he said. He turned around and dashed out of the room. Myra got up and closed the door. "There!" She said. "Now no one will bother us." The girl peeked over the edge of the bed, her eyes still red and swollen. Myra sat on the floor across from the girl and looked at the her. "What's your name?" She asked. The girl didn't say anything. "I'm Myra. How old are you?" Myra questioned. The girl held up both of her hands, her fingers splayed. "Your ten?" Myra leaned forward. The girl nodded. "I'm nineteen. Where are your parents?" The girl didn't answer. "It's alright. No one will hurt you." Myra said. "Tell that to the guy who almost shot me." The girl said. Myra's eyes widened. "Who tried to shoot you?" she asked. The gurl girl looked at her. "The big fat guy." she said. "Morown? Why would he try and shoot you?" Myra asked, aghast. The girl frowned. "Ask him!" she snapped. Myra sighed. "I will talk to him. He overreacts a lot." The girl leaned back, rubbing her eyes. "How did you get on board?" Myra asked. "I saw the ship and I wanted to explore." The girl replied. "So your from Juan's crew?" The girl nodded. "My father went to help fight. He told me to hide. I saw the ship. Then you came. I was scared you would see me, so I stayed hidden. Then the ship took off and I panicked." She looked up at Myra. "Do you think my father's alright?" Myra thought back to the Cabal ships they had seen. There probably wouldn't be survivors. "He's with Juan. I'm sure he's safe." Myra lied. The girl looked heartbroken. "You're lying." she said. "What?" Myra asked. "I can tell. You're lying to protect me." the girl answered. Myra sighed. "Alright, maybe I am. I'm lying to give you hope. Is that wrong?" Myra asked. "When the truth comes to light, it makes it so much harder. Hope isn't wrong to give unless it's false hope." The girl said. "Wow. What are you, a philosopher or something?" Myra questioned. "That's what my mother said, right before she died." the girl replied. Myra fell silent. She didn't remember her parents, but she felt sorry for the girl. "Come with me, we need to talk to the others." Myra said. The girl slowly stood, rubbing her eyes. Myra also stood, placing her hand on the girl's shoulder. "By the way, what's your name?" Myra asked. "Amelia." the girl said hesitantly. "Well Amelia, come with me. I need to find the others." Amelia stood up. "The big fat guy is unconscious. I don't about any others." she said. Myra threw back her head, and began laughing hysterically. "You knocked out Morown?" she cackled. "I wasn't trying to. He lost his balance and hit his head." Amelia said. Still chuckling, Myra turned and led Amelia through the maze of corridors to the bridge. Soren was there along with Sully, who was bandaging Moron's head. "There's the little brat!" Morown yelled. He jumped to his feet, then stumbled back. He grabbed his head and moaned. "Sit down!" Sully said angrily. "You'll tear out the stitches!" Morown leaned back in his chair, while Soren looked at Myra. "Who is she?" he asked. "She snuck on board while we were on Mars." Myra replied. "What are we going to do with her?" Soren asked. "Throw her out the airlock." Morown glared at Amelia. She shrank back, trying to hide behind Myra. "No one is killing anyone! She will stay with us until Geren recovers enough to decide." Myra yelled. Myra turned away and led Amelia down the hall. Morown watched them go, glaring at their backs. "Bad luck." he muttered. "What?" Soren asked. "In pre-golden age times, it was considered bad luck to have a woman on a ship." Morown said. "Your just embarrassed that a ninety pound girl kicked your butt." Soren snickered. Morown glared at him. Soren stepped back and examined his work. "You can go now. Try not to hit your head." he said. Morown got up, muttering something under his breath about, "Bratty children." and "bad luck." Soren chuckled as he sat down in the pilot's seat. He leaned back as he looked out the window. They had no leads to Uldren's whereabouts. They could only wait.
