• So? All Presidents give pardons. Obama pardoned 1,927 people convicted of federal crimes before he left office.

Honestly? Trump pardoned a right-wing authoritarian THUG---who routinely wiped his ass with due process and the 8th Amendment----and a racist. For no reason but to throw red-meat to the worst elements of his base...and to divert attention from how badly his Presidency is floundering at the moment. In the wake of what happened two weeks ago in Charlottesville, and how divisive his comments were then, its an especially despicable and tone-deaf/cynical move. But hey, The GOP is the party of the Rule of Law, right? Am I right or am I right?

    • My thoughts with only knowing what you said about this, are that this is a good thing. Illegals are flooding across the border, whatever we can do to stop it we should.

      • This thread has a startling lack of apologists defending Trump. I'm amazed there aren't more people claiming this was a great thing with perfect timing and how it's totally ok because Obama did the exact same thing somehow.

        • The sheriff in question was one of the ballsiest, most no-nonsense law enforcement professionals in history, so I say he earned a free pass. And, he was 85 years old. And the court was probably wrong anyway.

Reminder, this is the sheriff who: •Entrapped a man in a phony assassination plot for publicity purposes •Ran the most racist police department in history according to the DoJ •Ran jails that were found to contain unconstitutionally abusive/neglectful conditions •Described his prison as being a concentration camp •Was found guilty of criminal contempt in court for violating a federal judge's order to halt his department's racial profiling practices •Neglected a significant amount of sex abuse/child molestation cases •Has been accused of launching investigations on/charging with trumped up crimes politicians and judges who have crossed him Trump/White House:
Arpaio’s life and career...exemplify selfless public service...he is worthy candidate [sic] for a Presidential pardon
Edit: Not the most racist police department in history. That was badly worded. The DoJ's leading expert on racial profiling concluded that Arpaio's department was "the most egregious racial profiling [case] in the United States that he has ever personally seen in the course of his work, observed in litigation, or reviewed in professional literature." That's not including the incredibly racist environment and practices in the prisons he ran. • Arpaio is bigot trash. I mean it's no surprise that Trump would pardon this racist considering that neither of them like Mexican people. Problem is, Arpaio targeted Mexicans in ARIZONA. Anyone aware of how many hispanic folk live in AZ? lol

                  • FYI to those who don't understand what a pardon is: You get pardoned from a crime! I've seen many people in other places talking about this (and one or two people here) whose arguments are basically "He committed a crime so he shouldn't be pardoned" but that's what it is! Please base your opinions off of you think the crime/sentence is fair, not whether or not he committed an actual crime.

                  • I dont know enough about the facts to have a valid opinion. All I can say is that in general, I feel if a defendant is arrested and convicted through due process in a way that is fair and just, the verdict should stand.
