Why is this forum so toxic?

If you visit other forums there is hardly any trolls and negative post offer good suggestions. There are far more positive post. Not just talking about Reddit either. Even post on articles are more cheerful. Bnet and twitter are just negative. Bungie you need to find out why.
Moderator edit: This thread has been moved to #Feedback forum so that other Destiny players can weigh in.   See Cozmo's thread here for more information about the #Feedback tag and its uses. • They need to block users from commenting if they are constantly bashing the game and other users. It's Bungie's site and game. They should take care of the trolls.

  • This forum is toxic because Bungie does not communicate with the players. They do what they please without any apparent care for how the players feel. All feedback goes unanswered and/or ignored, leaving the people on these forums (understandably) frustrated and angry. The only people they Do seem to communicate with are streamers and paid advertisers like IGN, which only further alienates the player-base. We feel like we dont matter to them. Bungie seems to cater to a small corner of the PvP base while ignoring the damage it does to PvE. Bungie has a reputation for forcing us to play the game their way, instead of the way the we want to play it. Bungie apparently thinks we're stupid, so they dumb down the skill trees for D2. These are just a few of the reasons these forums are so toxic, and blame falls squarely on Bungie's shoulders.

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/229950441/0/0/1 And you wonder why there is so much what on this forum? What is that word you like to use when you attack gamers? Oh yeah! You call them a "hypocrite" in fact, you used that word a hell of a lot when you are attacking gamers. The OP that was just expressing his opinion and nothing more that some of the gamers that really like this game showed how they know how to be respectful. I love the comments some of the gamers made on that post and even "your" comment baiting the OP. The spoiler below shows the actual comments gamers made on that post and these are Gamers that really like the game " claiming" they know how to give positive feedback. Well it also shows how they know how to be TOXIC... Edit

Lets hear from Bnet on how many gamers that like the game will think they are clever making up lines as positive feedback on this post. Or any post for that matter that they don't like. So far it's been... "My mom won't buy me D2" Next we have "Who cares" Following "Hahahaha. Wow. Man you kids need to get outside more" Then there is "knee-jerk much" But don't forget "I will look up your profile on September 7th to see how far you are on it" Don't ask me what the second half of it was but it goes right here under I will look up your profile. "You will be back ..... you k ow you will" Then there is the new bait "So you are not buy Destiny 2?" Oh wait! Here comes a well thought out reply "I'll be watching your ID to make sure you're not playing post launch. And right after I beat the first raid I'll be sure to check and make sure your still free of the burden that is a video gam I've got you" Not that that isn't weird but so be it. Then comes the old time favorite. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" And when you really don't have anything to say "Bye Felicia" Then there is the, man you're reaching "Two weeks max before you cave and buy D2." Aww, the try hard "This is like a bad cheesy script that tries too hard to be dramatic. It reads like someone is on their deathbed giving a final farewell, when it's really just about a freakin video game. LMFAO. You got an F in creative writing, didn't you? BTW, see you in D2. You know you're getting it." And this is new. An apology is expected "Farewell don't let the door hit you on ya way out .... o by the way in a month or so time when you watching YouTube videos on destiny 2 and you decide to eat humble pie and sneak back in, I hope you apology post is just as .... errrm well informed !" Leaving you with the one line that sums it all up for D2 See you in D2. I don't know about you folks, but that is some top-notch constructive criticism when giving positive feedback. Thanks guys that really like this game for showing you know how to give great feedback.

• Really the alpha and omega regarding the current state of the forums is solely the responsibility of Bungie. Their lack of attention, interaction, and even moderation of the b.net community is laughable and frankly pathetic. There is rarely ANY interaction with Bungie on these forums, and for the most part those interactions are token and lazy. Many people point to the toxicity of the forums as the reason why Bungie doesn't interact, but I think that's bullshit. If their overall impression of the forums is that it is too negative, they should make efforts to moderate it more. After all, this is THIER house. They host the forum and provide this service. And they need to make efforts to interact with this community more. But it all comes down to the overall lack of effort and giving a shit on Bungie's part. Why spend effort on it when they can just go their streamers, reddit, and Twitter to interact? All those mediums are easily and readily available. Why waste time here? Making this a respectable forum and actively interacting with it would require some effort on their part. But that's their MO. Why spend the effort when it's just easier to interact elsewhere? It's like their stance on PVE and PVP separation. Just say "we want your guardians to feel the same wherever you go" instead of the more truthful "We don't want to commit the resources towards that because we'd rather do the easy thing and just nerf/buff all the way across the board cause that requires less effort".

          • Because they have made more announcements on other social sites then it's own damn forum...ie Iron Banner dates trials dates and other major changes, that you would not even have known about using b-net, so much so that some from this community had to bring it to their attention!!! Neglect is right.

          • Because the community managers don't manage the community. They have pretty much not contributed at all other than some standard responses. DeeJ went as far as to say our recommendations were too lofty. Maybe the company was just so over it's head with internal issues as well as game issues that they couldn't do anything. But to be mute to the community is the worst decision they ever made. They let issues fester. Cozmo at least plays the game and does do more that single line responses. Biggest problem is they never joined the real discussion.

            • Because it got ignored and left to its own devices for 3 yrs because Bungie couldn't give a rat's patootie about it. I'm not certain if anyone is familiar with the old Bioware forum. Back when DA2 dropped it was a mess in that section over the disaster that was the release and the DA2 forum exploded. Long story short, BW put on their big boy pants, went out and the devs made threads in the forum devoted to areas in the game where *they* talked with the forums every, single, day. Couple of weeks later the worst of the anger was gone *because * they did that and the devs got a lot of praise for it. Cozmo and Deej couldn't seem to even hold a conversation here for more than 30 secs.

Because a majority of people here spit out their opinion without thinking of how that argument comes across from a gameplay perspective and whenever anyone questions or calls them out on it, they don't want to or can't explain themselves and resort to insults. Much like 3rd graders.

Game rated "T" for "teen." Demographic target market = kids. Pretty sure everyone already knows this though. I'm not saying all kids are the source of the hot garbage floating around the forums is solely their fault, nor that they are "always" prone to acts of immaturity and so on. It's just more common amongst youngsters, who have not had enough life experiences to further develop interpersonal skills, to speak with their feelings as opposed to their thoughts. When people speak with their feelings (ex. "I feel Bungie/ Destiny...etc."), it shows a general lack of communication skills. This is not to say adults are not prone to doing the same. The biggest problem I see that perpetuates the toxin is when some of the adults here do not afford the younger generations a chance to fully articulate their point, but rather they (adults) immediately belittle and/ or berate these youngsters in a condescending and patronizing fashion. This obviously insults the intelligence of the younger fanbase, they then rally their troops, circle the wagons, and resort to acts/ words of further ignorance and belittling. And on the vicious cycle goes. To further compound the issue, text messages of any sort lack so much substance, tone, body language, etc. that much of the dialogue is taken out of context; people read between the lines, when instead, should just be taking the prose at face-value. Being polite helps. Exercising proper use of introversion does, also. Glad OP addressed this issue. Let's clear some of the air around here. Be the better person, set good examples, and lead from the front children and adults, alike

                        • Because people are left speak their minds here wether good or bad to a certain degree once not abusive insulting you get the point. Reddit is moderated a lot more and negative post disappear fast. I prefer here because you see a lot of criticism some good some bat shit crazy(ye streamers have secret servers in Arizona guy)also you actually can see loads of good non toxic posts here like guy doing medal score and many many others. I do like the trolls as well some can be pretty funny. But bungie give us free reign here to discuss what we want how we want be it good bad ugly or funny again once not to abuse insulting. This forum right here is one of the things they got right imo.

                          • Relying purely on the hype train isn't going to work much longer for Bungie. A lot if not most of the people that visit the forums have become wise to it. To some it up, the product vs actual real time communication from Bungie just sucks. But hey, maybe they'll include another shiny piece to distract you from the real issues going on.

                            • People on most gaming forums think that they're not only "1337" but wise and all knowing, despite age, education level, or evidence to the contrary. So, not only do you get game elitists, but forum warriors who will attack anyone or anything that sounds like it might not be their cup of tea. When kids like Toaster, etc, browse they're not looking for information, or discussion, they're looking for someone to accuse, argue with, or otherwise insult. The forum has devolved into a state kinda like one of those meme groups on facebook, when someone posts something wholesome or non-offensive or not quite "memey" enough, suddenly they're only worthy of torment and ridicule.
