Burned and buried (Calling all true Destiny fans)

The Bungie.net forums, heart of the black garden that is the Destiny community. Before I make my case I want it to be known that I AM a Destiny player, I know this game, and I've been here since the beginning. I destroyed the heart of the black garden, I overcame Atheon , I defeated Crota, I survived the Prison of Elders, I killed Oryx, I ended Aksis. I stuck with this game through the hype, the disappointment, the hope, the dry seasons, the grind... and I lov.. loved Destiny. I Pumped Hundreds of Dollars AND hours in to this game, in the hopes that Bunge and Activision would see the immense, unprecedented potential that this game held and use the money that I and millions of other dedicated fans gave to them to crate a game that would rival any other that came before it. A game that took everything we loved about destiny and turned it up to 11. A game that would take everything we thought we knew about destiny and turn it on its head. But now, I find myself in shock, in horror at what this franchise is becoming. The same feeling that I had when I brought destiny home, played it for the first time, and realized that is was nothing like Bungie promised it would be. I never thought that I would ever find myself saying this... but... I'm done with Destiny... and here's why. May 18th 2017: Me, my brother, and my father all gathered around our computer screen, anxious and worried. After a cinematic trailer that promised no change and no innovations or evolution to the game except "More Lewt" and advertised a $100 pre-order before we had seen gameplay of any kind, my unbridled hype quickly turned to cautious optimism and skepticism. The Livesteam starts, I'm at the edge of my seat, Hoping that I would see something that would reignite the hype within my soul. The gameplay starts, and the first thing I see is a guardian holding a rifle, and the first thought that came into my mind was "why are they showing Destiny 1 gameplay?" then my heart sinks "this isn't destiny one". After this initial shock of seeing the first Destiny with an ENB* being advertised as a squeal subsided, iI noticed something odd about the game. The animations, enemies, and some physics all look and behave in the same way as the first destiny, Even the melee animations look almost identical to the previous game. I then realized what destiny was becoming; a watered down, "same every year", cash-grab much in the vain of Call of Duty. Then things only go down hill from there. At this point my hype and faith in this game have been burned and buried, now all I have left is raw objectivity. I now look at this game, not as a Guardian, but as a gamer. I don't need to sit here and tell you how Pre-ordering this game is Genuinely hurting gaming as a whole. I don't need to tell you that all our time and money was spent on a game that was ultimately a beta. I don't need remind you that Bungie is already advertising not one, but TWO expansions before the game has even launched. You don't need me to remind you that Destiny 2's story was intended to be the "Forge of Gods" expansion. Because you already know. And if these shady, borderline lazy business practices isn't enough to convince you to want to make a change. If this game isn't worth enough for you to put your foot down, clench your fist and say NO to Bungie and Activision warping, mutating, and perverting Destiny into the next Call of Duty... Then you are not a true gamer, nor a true Destiny fan. But if this game is worth it, if you want Destiny to go down in history alongside games like Halo, Skyrim, Fallout, half-life, Mass-Efect, World of Warcraft, and GTA. You have SHOW not tell Bungie how we feel. And the best way to show any Movie Studio, Game developer, or corporate company that we mean business, is through our wallet. So this is an appeal to the destiny community, we have two options: Option 1: Don't pre-order Destiny 2 in any capacity. Pre-order culture is a means for greedy companies like Activision to get money out of their costumers before they can see rather or not the product they're paying for is worth the price being asked. No more. Option 2: Wait for reviews. I don't think people realize what a blessing critics are for the gaming community. It is there JOB to insure that you spend your money on a product that is worth the price. Don't let Ad campaigns and artificial hype make your decision for you. Stay hesitant and make an informed purchase. Watch reviews, read articles, know the ins-and-outs of the quality of this game before you spend your hard-earned cash. To be honest, if everybody did that we wouldn't be approaching the gaming crash like we are now. Don't let this Topic Die, I encourage the entire destiny community to share their thoughts. Get this message to Bungie's ears, copy and past this in any Destiny or gaming forums you know of. These days it's not up to Developers to make a game great, it up to us, the community. We can't leave the future of this game in the hands of old men in board rooms who see us as nothing more than Benjamins. This game deserves better then that, and so do we. *ENB is a graphic mod that enhances post processing effects to make games look better graphically.

Before I make my case I want it to be known that I AM a Destiny player, I know this game, and I've been here since the beginning.
I've played Destiny for these past 3 years as well. Been here on B.net and on the Destiny subreddit interacting and observing the community feedback on both places. Not sure what you mean by these forums being the heart of the Black Garden though.
Likewise, throughout these 3 years of the game's lifespan I've had a love/hate relationship with the game. (With the Age Of Triumph I have more love than hate at this time.)
For the most part, that's what I saw throughout the trailers and playing the beta. The Last City is gone, we suffered a huge loss at the hands of Dominus Ghaul, he's destroyed virtually every player's hard earned loot, stolen our powers which we'll have to regain by visiting that broken shard of the Traveler (Which is said to swarming with all sorts of foes hungering for it's power.) They teased new worlds and bigger environments to explore with more PVE activities and quests rather than just patrol beacons. We're getting NPC's to meet out in these worlds that chances are going to fight side by side with is in different instances. Those are already pretty substantial changes and I haven't even mentioned all of them.
Not sure what to say, I actually had a better first impression of D2 over D1 myself but understandably not everyone will feel the same way. • He was holding a rifle 😱😱😱. That is exactly the same as Destiny one!!!!!! Destiny 2 shouldn't have guns at all because D1 had them. Otherwise D2 is exactly the same 😱😱😱. All jokes aside, I personally like D2. It looks to me like they have taken great strides to improve things that were bad in D1 (ex: the story). As for similar animations, did you really expect them to completely change every single one? And why is it a problem if D2's story is what they had planned for forge of gods? While I understand why you just may not personally like some aspects of D2, but I think you are overreacting with some of your criticisms.

      •
I don't need to sit here and tell you how Pre-ordering this game is Genuinely hurting gaming as a whole.
This is one persistent myth. Pre-orders are a scapegoat.
I don't need to tell you that all our time and money was spent on a game that was ultimately a beta.
Warframe is technically still a beta. WoW has gone through many changes throughout its life. With more prominence on online gameplay, most games are going get this treatment to some extent, some more than others obviously. But the bottom line is that many people enjoyed D1, "beta" or not.
I don't need remind you that Bungie is already advertising not one, but TWO expansions before the game has even launched.
How does this differ from other games like ESO, Battlefront, Witcher 3 (which advertised 16 straight weeks of "DLC"). It's partly how publishers console divisions are staying in the black considering retail price hasn't changed much since the 80s, yet costs have skyrocketed - both upfront development with more content, more loot, more playable terrain, more cutscenes and ongoing costs such as servers, maintenance, and patches.
You don't need me to remind you that Destiny 2's story was intended to be the "Forge of Gods" expansion.
And that road map was scrapped. The storyline is possibly the same, but one would fooling themselves if they thought a DLC was going to offer the amount of content we're getting with D2 or that it was done and ready to shop back in 2014 when that image was leaked.
Because you already know. And if these shady, borderline lazy business practices isn't enough to convince you to want to make a change.
Already shown that these "shady business practices" aren't shady if you understand what's going on fiscally with the industry.
If this game isn't worth enough for you to put your foot down, clench your fist and say NO to Bungie and Activision warping, mutating, and perverting Destiny into the next Call of Duty... Then you are not a true gamer, nor a true Destiny fan.
And there's the ad hominem. So because I understand the industry better than you I'm not a true gamer or Destiny fan? This makes you sound like one this hipster guys who like a band until they get their songs on the radio at which point their sellouts. Overall it's seems you're ignorant of the world around you and how this industry has evolved over time. I suggest you go outside and educate yourself.

There's no reason to change any of that as it wasn't the problem with destiny 1. The problem was lack of content and story among other things. It's a sequel so it has to be familiar, what would the point be in changing any of that stuff you mentioned anyways. PS: The Cabal especially look like they got visual upgrades, not to mention they added more types.

Didn't read this mountain of text but the response tells me I saved myself...I preordered 7 months ago. I bought Destiny with TDB and HOW came out a month later. I paid 60 then 30 and 30 again. I received 3 years of playtime, now that is value gaming. D2 will provide value or it won't. I am willing to take that risk, having received value for Bungie's first game.

            • People pre order, because they want to play it the instant it comes out, they want the exclusives and they want a better deal on the DLC's. I'm one of them. What is wrong with that? I liked the Beta and the way the game is headed, you don't. Both of us are entitled to our opinions. I'll play the game, maybe you won't. In the end people will vote with their wallets, like they should. If I trusted the reviews of games, I would either buy games I don't like, or never play games I do like, i.e. MEA. Reviews are wholly subjective and most consumer reviews are people with an axe to grind. How is it up to the community to dictate the game? None of us own the company, it's not our intellectual property. We can like or dislike things and wish for changes. But, this game is a business and they will do what is best for the overall business of the game. What you're asking for is for them to basically cater to everyone which would create massive amounts of micromanaging every little thing to appease everyone. That is utterly impossible. Destiny is not a democracy or a republic nor does allow for any sort of representative form of governance. It's a business run by people trying to make money. Take or leave it, that's what will dictate the path of Bungie and Destiny. I'll be playing it, and so will loads of other people, so I'm guessing that it will continue on with or without you. Play what you enjoy and if you don't enjoy Destiny anymore, move on. I myself have quit and started playing Destiny, 3 times (because the game is a trainwreck, but it's still such a good game) and I have gone back after each time and I am all in for D2. Maybe you'll be right and I'll be wrong, only time will tell.

            • So basically you're trying to say that if people don't agree with you then they're not "true gamers" or "true destiny fans"? Look, your criticism of the game is fair, a little over the top for my taste, but fair. I think maybe you're a victim of your own expectations here, but your view of the quality is your view and I can respect that. Where you start to lose me is the part I referenced initially "if you don't agree with me and withhold your money you aren't a true gamer or a fan of destiny" bs. For one, I don't believe the "preorder culture" as you put it has anything to do with the quality of games or the so called downfall of gaming (btw, people have been talking about the impending collapse of gaming for a long ass time now and it still hasn't happened). Also, your opinion on the quality of the game is just that, an opinion, so stop acting like it's fact and anyone that disagrees is wrong. And that's coming from someone who isn't planning to buy the game, and definitely isn't preordering it.

            • It's so sad people's expectations & standards are so low. No one cares here on b.net The people who feel the same, won't comment. The haters, fangirls, & casuals will defend Bungie, & insult you, because your attempting to make improvements.... ? Weird.. not one insult or personal attack to anyone, sharing feedback because you care, & we want that epic ground breaking experience that we all thought we were getting. In return for your time & effort, people talk shit & insult ! LOL People forgot, or don't care about cash grabs like festival of the lost, crimson doubles, srl, queen, they took it all away after we spent mad money on micro transactions. Content drought. All sorts of bugs & error codes. Being disrespected by Puke Smith, activision having developers lie to us, lack of communication. If you see it you can go there , we can't increase the vault..

You dare mention Half-Life and destiny in the same sentence? In COMPARISON! destiny WAS cool and unique, but only for a little while. Half-Life changed FPS and gaming itself, taking it not only to the next level but several floors above. The money grubbing, talentless dorks of destiny are not capable of a Half-Life caliber game, they only excel at finding ways to rip us off.

                    • How is preordering a way for companies to rip off gamers who hadn't played the game yet? If the person pre-ordered the game it's most likely because they saw gameplay played the beta or maybe liked destiny 1. I doubt some random person who knows nothing about destiny saw that destiny 2 was available for preordering and was just like hey why not it's asking me nicely...... As for the rest of your post your points are kind of valid but you really come off as overdramatic like come on don't try to be Shakespeare on me give me real talk. Lastly maybe the animations are the same and graphics are only mildy improved but a with redesigned subclass trees old subclasses being adjusted and changed (fist of havoc for example) a different weapon system, fixed rolls, both weapons and each piece of armor having slots for their own shaders, energy and power weapons having mods that changed their elements and weapons having mods in general how is this game just destiny 1? Cause I don't see it

I am a grown ass adult like most people on these forums. We earn our own money and can do with it as we please. I find value in something I spent 2000 hours playing.
