Protectors of Light Ch. 17: Stressful Relaxation

It was a new morning, just after daybreak. Sunlight shimmered through the dew that collected on the eastward windows, causing a beautiful light show on the armory floor. Angel peered out of the window to watch a squirrel fail to climb up to a bird feeder; the owner had placed a slinky, so when the creature clawed to it, both dropped back to the ground. The Guardian huffed amusingly. Logan stood in the bathroom, checking his jaw. There was still bruising from where Angel's plasteel boot had connected under his chin. Logan sighed, then opened a small Void portal and pulled out a chart. "Hey Merlin, mind giving me... hmm... a goatee and mustache?..." The ghost, still wearing his blue and starry wizard hat, stared at the man for a moment. "I cast spells... Not cheap parlor tricks..." "Man, come on..." Logan whined. Merlin, not wanting to start yet another discussion, caved. "You underestimate my power..." "Thanks, buddy..." Logan replied while he turned to the mirror and watched his beard get reduced to around his mouth and chin. After the warlock got washed up and threw on a t-shirt with a 'Roll 20' on it, he stepped out of the bathroom and walked to the kitchen; which had a clear view of the living room since both are sections of one massive chamber. After stopping in his tracks, Logan sighed. "He's still here?..." Nick was sprawled across the couch, snoring obnoxiously loud. Bags of chips and a bottle of water cluttered the table beside him. Angel nodded before tossing a grape in her mouth while reading a news article. Despite how calm she was, Angel was still concerned about the Vex infected titan on the loose; there were no new reports on him, but he was out there. Somewhere. Logan, now realizing what she was doing, took the tablet away from Angel and set it aside. The titaness scolded him, but did not try to get it back because inside, she knew Logan had his reason. "You need to get ready. There's a place I want to take you; you might not remember it, but I'm sure you will enjoy it," the warlock said, trying to look into Angel's green eyes. "I... I... I don't want to go back to the City, Logan..." Angel replied, genuinely frightened. "I know you're worried about the titan, Angel, but I think you could use this..." Logan said while stroking his fingers through her hair, as well as brushing it from her face. "Logan... I'm. Not. Going..." the titaness said sternly. "You know I can open a two-way portal, right?" "Don't you dare..." "Do you want people to see you in your..." Logan glanced up and down Angel. "...hoodie?..." "It's your hoodie," Angel replied. "I'm aware..." Logan replied before he conjured an orb of Void Light that slowly spread out into a vortex as he pulled his hands apart. "Logan, I will punch you through the refrigerator!" The agitated woman exclaimed. However, Logan continued to open the portal. With a quick motion, Angel threw her arm in the air, ready to send the man through the metal box. "Give it back!" Demanded a frustrated voice. Both Angel and Logan looked down the hall; Merlin was chasing the hysterically laughing Alice through the building. "That was crafted specifically for me, by me!" Merlin continued to yell. "I stole his 'magic wand'..." Alice said as she flew past the Guardians. Angel and Logan shared looks of concern, but continued to watch the ghosts fly around. "Alice! Return to me, that wand, and I may be merciful!" Merlin shouted while chasing the ghost ahead of him around a support pillar. "Let's see..." Alice said to herself as she stopped and pointed the wand to Merlin, who froze in place as well. "Hatus removus!" She cried while waving the wooden stick. Merlin gripped his wizard hat and clamped it to his shell, all while shrieking at such a pitch Logan wondered why none of the windows shattered. After a moment, Merlin looked back up to see that his hat was still on. "Heh, heh... You must not have said it properly..." To which Alice preceeded to throw the wand at the ghost and knock the hat off anyways. Time seemed to slow down as the blue hat plummeted to the dirty, tile flooring. Alice chuckled now that her act of malice was done. Merlin gasped as he watched the hat descend. Angel raised her hand to her mouth. Logan, familiar with the sin most of all, said: "Oh s***..." Finally, the hat crashed onto the floor, dust kicking up and drifting through the air before settling back down on the velvet. As if to insult the injury, a gust of air from the nearby vent tipped the hat over (it had previously landed standing up) and now, it rolled around in the dirt tracked in on the Guardians' boots. As time returned to normal, Merlin faced Alice; his shell turned three shades of blue darker, and the air around him seemed to ignite into flames. "You defiled my hat..." "I could get you a new one..." Alice said sheepishly, slowly floating away from the angered ghost. "That hat was custom made. It took me months to make it..." Merlin added. "I could wash it..." "It's dry clean only..." Merlin said, still remaining surprisingly calm. Alice began to panic as she backed against a wall. "So, about that place..." Angel said to Logan while running to get proper clothing. "Yeah!" Logan replied as he opened a portal for a quick escape. A moment later, Angel returned, this time with pants, and jumped through the portal before the tension between the ghosts could escalate any farther.
