The purpose of the Clan Migration process is to prepare existing Destiny communities for the new Clan features introduced in Destiny 2. A part of this process requires splitting the Group and Clan features of the Destiny Companion Web and Mobile App.
Action Needed by Group Founders
Starting on July 26, 2017, Group Founders will be presented with a support flow to help them choose one of two options for the Clan Migration process.
Only the Group Founders of Groups that have an associated Clan will be eligible to complete the process
- Group Founders can visit their Clan homepage and choose the Edit Settings button on the banner at the top of the page to begin the process and choose one of the options described below
- Group Founders will have until August 23, 2017 to choose their desired option
- Every Group with an associated Clan will default to one of the two available options based on Clan membership as described below
- Group Founders can change the selected option an unlimited number of times until August 23, 2017, at which time the currently selected option will go into effect
Option A: Upgrade to a Destiny 2 Clan
This option is recommended for smaller communities (3 - 100) where the majority of Group members are also Clan members.
If this is the currently selected option on August 23, 2017, the following will go into effect:
- The associated Group will be deleted
- The forum history and chat history of the Group will be transferred to the Destiny 2 Clan
Option B: Remain a Group
This option is recommended for large communities (100+) where most of the Group members are not also Clan members.
If this is the currently selected option on August 23, 2017, the following will go into effect:
- The Clan is deleted
- The Clan Roster is removed
- The Clan name is reserved to the user that was set as the Clan Founder
- The forum and chat history will remain a part of the Group and will not be transferred with the Clan name reservation
Default Settings
To help prevent issues that may be caused by absent Group Founders, every Group with an associated Clan will default to one of the two available options based on Clan membership.
- Groups with 50% or more of their members in the associated Clan will default to the "Upgrade to a Destiny 2 Clan" option which removes the Group and prepares the Clan for the new Destiny 2 Clan features
- Groups with less than 50% of the members in the associated Clan will default to the "Remain a Group" option which preserves the Group, removes the Clan, and reserves the Clan name to the Clan Founder
Clan Name Reservations
For communities that chose to remain as a Group, the associated Clan name will be reserved for future use by the Clan Founder.
If the "Remain a Group" option is the currently selected option on August 23, 2017, the following with go into effect:
- The user currently designated as the Clan Founder will hold the Clan name reservation
- The Clan name reservation can be used to create a new Destiny 2 Clan
- The Clan name reservation will expire on September 20, 2017
- The Clan will be considered newly created and will not retain or reference any of the Group's forum or chat history
