Mtashed: The Truth about SBMM in Destiny 2

Bungie has already stated that SBMM in Quick Play and Competitive is only for the Beta: This can be adjusted easily for launch. We don't need to rage right now, but we can discuss our feelings about it. If you are coming here to argue about it one way or the other, have an articulate discussion. Argue your points, defend your stance. Don't be a degenerate throwing slurs and swears around for no reason. SBMM in most games is a net positive for the "Average Joe". It gives them balanced lobbies to thrive in, fail in, make mistakes in, and improve in. However, the better you get, the worse SBMM can feel. Hyper competitive games 24/7 can feel frustrating, and being unable to play with friends who are weaker really sucks. The better you get, connections also become worse as the system has fewer and fewer local players to match you against. However, flat our removing SBMM can ruin the experience for the majority of players in the game: The average joe. Personally, I think losing to a better player is one of the best ways to improve at a game. BUT, being dominated by a stacked team of 4 for an entire match is a terrible experience. Many people I have talked to suggest having connection based match making in Quickplay, and SBMM in competitive. This might be a solid balance for the game, as the majority of players are average. While there may be top tier players in some of the games, or even stacked teams from time to time, more often than not, the players in the lobbies with be AVERAGE. Will you sometimes get destroyed in Quick play? Yes Will you sometimes dominate in Quick play? YES Having SBMM in Competitive provides a place to grow as a player against people of similar skill, while Quickplay can be a gamble of skill levels many people enjoy in other shooter games. I would love to hear your opinions on this, however I really hope we can be civil in here. • We should have tiers of ranks, i.e. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. If you're a Bronze player, then you get matched with Bronze and Silver only. If you're Platinum, only Gold or Platinum. Silver tier players get ranked with Bronze, Silver and Gold. Gold Players get matched with Silver, Gold and Platinum players. This will keep new players from getting stomped and will allow the best players to go up against good players and not have to go too sweaty all the time. For unranked, then you can play with anyone but the rewards shouldn't be as good. They should be good, but maybe competitive weapons and armor have an additional mod slot or something and trials (if they have trials) weapons and armor will have two additional mod slots. This way, you still get something out of playing competitive rather than unranked playlists. And for goodness sake, let's have your rank diminish over long periods of inactivity so when you come back to the game after 6 months, you're not playing against PvP gods while you're trying to get back into the groove of things. This should fix most PvP MM issues.
