My thoughts on the new weapons armor and subclasses being "streamlined"

So to get this started, I'm fully aware that by putting my opinion on the Internet that said opinion is now void and now factually incorrect. Anyways! So the community is generally at war with itself over thoughts on how the new game will play, emphasis on there being no weapon rolls to grind for, no real subclass options, we (or at least I) haven't seen enough about armor to truly know how that will play out. So here is my thoughts on guns GUNS: okay... so the guns have set rolls, if you ask me that makes sense though, because In the real world a gun is a gun. When you pull the trigger on any specific gun it (for the most part) will shoot the same ammo type at the same velocity with the same amount of force, now there are obviously attachments and parts you can switch out. (Which would be your scopes/chokes/compensators/ammo types/perks like rifles barrel, oiled frame, hand laid stock, injection mold etc) so obviously a gun is a gun, (there are many like it but this one is mine is kinda the thought process here) also there are those weapon mod kits for even more customization. IMO we just need a lot of guns to make grinding feel a bit more grindy and satisfying. SUBCLASSES: okay... I'm not too big a fan of this one maybe if there were like 12 perks that you could put on the clusters of 4 and certain perks can't be combined or something would be better, I'm just personally not a fan, I will certainly miss doing silly builds. (Rip sunbreaker I had two very different builds that I used religiously) anyways let's get to armor... ARMOR: if you ask me armor NEEDS to be our main source of customization we need a crapton of perks that synergies with our subclasses, gunskill, and play style very well. Armor perks need to be great but at the same time it cannot cripple you if you don't use the "perfect perks" because there won't be any!! They will all match certain methods of killing and play styles. Exotics (armor in particular): so I haven't seen many people talk about this much, but I really and truly hope that exotic armor hits it out of the park. Every piece having a crazy good perk that makes them all worth it and if you ask me augments to abilities and supers would be cool too. Not overpowered, but powerful. Obligatory "were trending" edit. Also, those who disagree please say why instead of just downvoting :(

  • Threads like this are why I've avoided every possible spoiler that I could. I haven't the first -blam!-ing clue what the difference is between D2 perk trees and the current perk trees, and I don't want to know. I'll find out in a couple weeks during the beta. Until then, it's all just you folks worrying over something that's not going to change, and something you won't know the effects of until you've played the game. I like it better when things come as a surprise. I'm so much happier that way.

    • Just confirming a few things. - Some, if not all, weapons will be able to gain access to Weapon Mods. - Armor still does things like increase movement speed or allow you to gain grenade energy for melee kills. However, with Armor, Agility and Recovery set to Armor, you will see builds that will revolve around those aspects.

        • Guns: Fine, but they better all be good then, cause if all the rolls are set, that means Bungie chose them, so it's their fault if any gun sucks now. Subclasses: All it boils down to in practice is, does one of the node clusters ( "path" ) for my chosen classes fit my playstyle with that class ? If so cool, whatever. It's still an inferior system though. The only upside is making it easier to balance for PvP, which shouldn't even be a thing. (by which I mean, pve changes for pvp, not balance in pvp) Armor: Ya'll mother-blam!-ers need transmog. If you claim deeper customization but tie basic stats to which armor we wear you done -blam!-ed up. Exotics: Make them cool looking and not shit, basically.

        • I am honestly not fussed about the guns if: - there is a wider armory than in d1 - you can change a bit their look. I d hate for the gun with stats I like to have a design I can't stand.

My thoughts on the subclass thing is that people don't really use multiple builds with the current system. People tend to use the one optimal build, so stream lining that doesn't REALLY hurt us at all.

              • My concern is with weapons mainly. Firstly, I'm not a PvP player so the issues aren't with that side of things, so for pve, my worry is we've now lost the diversity of the weapon slots as two will be the same other than one having elemental. Also some gameplay is situational and there's a need for rockets and snipers say, so what are you meant to do? Spend the next 20 mins trying to take down a boss with an auto pea shooter because you've run out of ammo? My other concern is if the weapons all have the same rolls then once you have the gun, then where is the fun in getting another? How many guns are going to be in the game? How quickly will we acquire all of them? I feel that after a few weeks we will have them all, then what? It's going to become boring very quickly.

                • I agree with you on these. Instead of 2 perk squares, it'd be cool to have 3. Exotics should all be amazing. It should be hard to choose which one you want to use because they're all amazing and unique. I would love to see some creative armor perks too. We have a good set of perks in destiny 1, but they were never really expanded upon.

                • Time will tell... I mostly use the same armor and subclass setup.

                • Im guessing that for your subclass point it could be like the pick 10 system on bo1/2 from what im reading correct?

                  • I think Bungie messed up with the subclass streamlining because if they had implemented the same system from D1 nothing would change or hurt the game. People say that "oh there are only one or two builds per subclass anyway" but at least with the old system you could tweak it to your play style. Now I'm stuck with two choices and I'll probably only choose one of them for 90% of the time. In reality all it does is limit choice. Simplifying subclass choices also won't make PVP a lot more balanced because the main problem is weapon balance not subclass balance.
