Would Destiny be Better Without the Crucible?

Say this video, and thought it would be interesting to see how people react to a topic like this. It does sound crazy, but after seeing the whole thing, it does make a lot of sense and could solve some of the really old, plaguing problems Destiny has had since the beginning.

  • I think the crucible has its place but what has hurt Destiny is the push for PVP to become an ultra-competitive experience (E-Sport). PVP was actually fun and dynamic in Y1, even though it was faster paced. It offered something that was WAY different from Halo. But now, the game is being completely redesigned to push competitive PVP play into the forefront, and it is taking away things that made the game fun, from diverse and varying supers, powerful loadouts, powerful weapons, etc. It's just dumb IMO. They COULD push competitive PVP without having to take away all that stuff, but they need to separate the two - something they simply refuse to do. Since they clearly side with the PVPers, and they clearly don't want to separate the game, they should market this game as a cooperative FPS rather than a loot-based shooter. You can't have a REAL loot-based shooter when all the loot is mediocre and makes no difference.

    • No but PvP should have been kept as a side option to PvE

It would be better if they could separate the two. Treat each thing entirely different. However, it seems they don't and still cater to PvP. Why would anyone who plays PvE want two primary weapons and everything else put into Heavy? Why would anyone who plays PvE want supers reduced in effectiveness and made into roaming supers with reduced customization? Etc. Maybe if they went all the way with PvP(dedicated servers, ranked comp playlist, etc.) it wouldn't be all that bad as it could be marketed as more of a PvP game, but PvE is what is mostly pushed. I don't know. It's sort of always been a mess with Bungie and the handling of PvE/PvP.

        • Imo, Destiny would be better if the PvP was a stand-alone aspect. All weapons were normalized, light didn't matter. And PvE wouldn't be nerfed when they did a weapon balance. Sort of like halo, the campaign was separate from PvP, and they didn't impact each other. Just my opinion, as someone who can't stand Destiny PvP anyway.

          • The quality of gameplay would be considerably better, because there would have been far fewer nerfs. HOWEVER, player base would have vastly declined during content droughts, because there's only so many times you can play a mission that's determined by the same AI algorithms. PvP changes with each match, making it far more effective at holding players' interest over time.

PvE should come first. We were promised more mmo elements. PvP balance should come after that. I'm looking forward to shooting the raid bosses with 2 PRIMARIES. Thanks trials

            • I would love if destiny would get rid of crucible all together, and do something like elder scrolls online with factions in game. Or like the Division and add war zones where pvp is enabled.

            • I've already done everything PvE in Destiny, 100 times over. PvP is about the only reason I play here anymore...

A true breakdown of the destruction PvP has caused in Destiny. I have said for years: PvP is an incurable disease that has destroyed this game, one nerf at a time. PvP is a toxic, raging dumpster inferno that has burned and poisoned every aspect of Destiny. Resetting the entire game in D2, the alteration/omission/addition of supers, and weapon re-classification is all happening because of PvP. It doesn't even look like Destiny anymore. How are any of these changes beneficial to PVE? PvP seeks to white wash, "balance", and remove everything unique about Destiny.
I have passed judgement on D2. I refuse to play the Beta and I won't buy it.
I've always said that pvp should have its own weapons, I know some of you are thinking "no I got my vex and I want to use it" well you did and it got nerfed, why did you want that weapon? Because it was op and you wanted to rule pvp, the fact you want those weapons in pvp is why they should not be in there, the crucible should be about gun skill, and if your good it shouldn't matter that your gun deals the same damage as your opponents. In pve you need that holy grail of weapons, that's what we grind for, that's why we scream with joy when we get it, take that away and what's the point? I'm not saying they have to melt bosses like a lvl4 dreg, but exotics should feel a little op, that's the whole point. I'll save judgment on D2 until I've played the beta and seen reviews, one sniff of nerfs or weapons feeling lacklustre in pve and I'll give it a miss.

              • This game would have died long ago without the crucible. So no it wouldn't be better.

              • As much as I detest crucible I'm saying no too. New content just isn't being released fast enough to keep players returning to Destiny. Having said that I'd much rather play something that works instead of a bodge job rushed filler so I guess the lengthy waits between expansions is kinda needed. Bungie isn't terrible with content releases compaired to others devs but they are on the slower side. I appreciate that others enjoy PvP but I personally don't like it much. Particularly don't like the impact it has on the PvE mechanics. Also don't like being "required" to do PVP in order to get specific loot or complete story lines/book completion. Still....Destiny would've been in a much worse place without it.

              • Dude destiny content gets old fast.... where as pvp will keep you coming back. I honestly don't know how people run raids 100+ times after I have armor and all guns I'm done.......

              • No, Destiny wouldn't be better without the Crucible. PvP isn't the reason why PvE had the lengthy content droughts that it has had. Even in the video the person making the video noted some major changes to weapon power were made due to PvE. Overall it appears Bungie wants a balanced game (including PvE). Bungie knows that people aren't going to complain about them having an "unfair" advantage over the AI. As a result Bungie seems to be using the mindset of if its unfair to use against you its unfair to use against the AI in regards to balance. Ironically enough the person who made the video pointed to a very important point about Destiny without PvP. It wouldn't have the replay value needed to keep people playing, PvE just isn't strong enough to carry the game on its own. In addition the gripes about the changes to PvP (at least in this video) come from Bungie opting not to put a ranked playlist or at least keeping private matches.
