The Path We Choose Ch8: Devils.

Soren dropped the Maverick out of warp. The ship rocked violently, throwing Myra out of her seat. "Somebody is going to pay for this!" she yelled as she stood up. Soren sunk down into his chair. "We're here." he muttered. "When we get back, you will pay." she said, glaring at him. The Maverick coasted down over the Last City. Soren guided the ship towards the Tower Hanger. "Inbound ship, please confirm ID." a voice said over the coms. Myra grabbed the mic. "This is the Maverick. Authorization code, 6945/tango." Silence. "Inbound Maverick, cleared for bay 5. Welcome home." The voice said. Myra sighed. "Its a good thing we peeked at those codes we got for Caleb. The vanguard doesn't take kindly to outlaws." Soren said. "Let's get this done. The sooner we find out where Lila is, the sooner we can leave. I hate these devils." Myra said. The Maverick landed in bay five and touched down. Myra, Sully, Moron, and Soren walked out onto the tarmac. Their armor was a close enough match to common guardian armor that they could blend in. They marched up the steps and entered the Tower courtyard. Guardians stood around, talking to the Cryptarch, storing weapons in their vaults, and kicking a purple ball around. "Alright. Moron, Soren. You go to the vanguard and see what Lila was doing here. Sully, your with me. We're going to the shadier places in the Tower. Geren stared in horror. Out the window he could see the massive body of a Golden Age warship. When did Lila get this? He watched as two small Kestrel class ships flew by. By their flight pattern, he could tell they were on patrol. "Your a slippery one, aren't you?" A voice said behind him. He whirled around. Lila stood behind him with five guards at her side. Each carried a shotgun and a riot stick. "You know your surrounded. You can't run. But while we're here, why not take in the view? Its beautiful isn't it?" She approached Geren. He turned around and looked out the window. "I came into possession of some, ahh, sensitive materials recently. This ship is quite impressive, no? She said. She put her arm around Geren's shoulders. "That's really why I left you. You and your crew are too, rigid. You don't even think of keeping your cargo. You just sell it and move on to the next job. I needed something more." she said. "Well I'm glad you've got your business going. But why did you capture me?" Geren asked. "I wanted you to witness my new job. We are mercenaries now. And we have our first client." she gestured out the window. Geren stared. Out of the darkness of space, ships began appearing. At least ten Golden Age warships appeared. Then behind them, Fallen Ketches began dropping out of warp. "Haha. Looks like your new fleet is about to be blown to bits." Geren laughed. Lila smiled. "Just watch." She said. The Ketches fell in line with the warships. "Why aren't they attacking?" Geren asked. "As I said, we have our first client." She said. The lead Ketch drifted toward Lila's ship, the symbol of the House of Devils, prominently displayed on its hull.
