Memory 457, Chapter 6: Isaac.

The Memory 457 Library: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/228184186/0/0 ¤ ¤ ¤ The man that Serenity had captured was walking back towards the bunker, a gun on him at all times. He had not spoken a word the entire journey. This was quite understandable to Serenity, due to the fact that he had captured a person who obviously had a ship, and who obviously did not want to go with him. He, though unsurprisingly, cooperated fully, and the box he was holding was keeping his hands occupied so as to not reach for any hidden weapons on him. He was searched before he picked up the box, and carried no weapons on him, which for several reasons is quite suspicious, but Serenity did not exactly want to go further searching him. "I like your weapon," the man said, his voice like sandpaper, but somehow still charming. Not knowing what to say, Serenity replied with silence. The effort to make conversation, however, showed a slight glimpse of humanity. This interested Serenity, mainly because the only glimpse of humanity he has ever seen is from Kaos. He always thought it was ironic that the word for empathy and compassion was humanity, when they were notably an evil species. "So, where are we going?" The man asked. "You'll find out when we're there," Serenity replied. "Oh so you do speak. And here I thought you lost your voice after you captured me." Serenity immediately regretted saying anything. "So what model are you?" He asked, almost inquisitively. Serenity stayed silent. "Well you must be Golden Age, and you're not a guardian so you must have either survived the collapse or-" "Quiet," Serenity replied, almost angrily. The man whistled. "Must've struck a nerve there," he said. Serenity ignored the comment, for indeed he had struck a nerve. He wanted to forget the collapse and everything associated with it. The walk took longer then expected, the water up to their knees and the package, hopefully, not wet. ¤ ¤ ¤ They had walked until they were in extremely familiar territory with Serenity, the crashing of the waterfall in the far-off distance a sign that they were relatively close. They had stepped out of the water and on to almost dry land, their feet making a squelch of sound as they walked. The clouds had returned above so as to show a grey and brooding sky, Serenity had known the clearing in the clouds would not last long. "So, why are you doing this?" The man asked. He had not spoken in hours, and this question was difficult for Serenity to answer. "No one comes to the Flood Zone. No one. The only things I have ever seen here are Fallen and their associates. I'm not saying you're with them, I just need to know who and what I am dealing with," Serenity replied. The man looked slightly aware and understanding of what was happening. It was a safety precaution, after all. "Understandable, I suppose." They had gotten a bit further on land, the journey being nearly over. The crashing over the waterfall had gotten louder as they walked, an intense thing. The running of the river alerted Serenity to their whereabouts in the world. ¤ ¤ ¤ As they opened up to the clearing in front of the bunker, the man's mouth fell open. The water was falling from fifty feet in the air off of a clifftop, and a river was running to the right and out into the Flood Zone. He walked out into the clearing, and noticed the giant metal door. "So this is where you li-" The man couldn't finish his sentence before he was hit with the butt of Serenity's rifle, and fell to the floor. Serenity picked up the box in one hand, and the limp body on his shoulder, and took them both into the bunker. Kaos was sitting on his bed when he saw Serenity walk in with a man and a box. Serenity immediately set the box down on the floor, and the man on his bed. "I-i-s that a m-an?" Kaos asked, standing up and walking over. "It is, Kaos, I found him at the outpost North of here. He was searching for something," Serenity replied. Kaos looked utterly astonished that there was some living thing in the Flood Zone. ¤ ¤ ¤ The man woke up with a headache, the world spinning, and an intense pain on the back of his head. An incredibly bright light was shining in his face, and he couldn't tell but he thought he could see the dark outline of a person. Then he realised that he was tied to a chair, arms and legs both. Looking around, he only saw dark outlines of wires, the rest was black. "So, what are you doing in the Flood Zone?" This person was obviously Serenity. It took a minute for the man to reply. "I was searching..." "Searching for what exactly?" "Well... A working weapon." There was a slight pause. "What kind of weapon?" Another pause. "A weapon like yours, actually." A weapon like mine? Serenity thought to himself. "What would you want with a weapon like mine?" "Well, Golden Age tech is incredibly... wanted in my line of business," the man said, his mood had slightly changed since earlier. "And what is this line of work?" Serenity inquired. "I'm a uh..." The man paused. "I'm a smuggler," he said, looking around. "A smuggler?" "Yeah, a person who transports and sells things under the table so to speak." "So when you asked my model earlier..." The man had a shocked look on his face. "No, no, no! I have a hobby in XCORP tech! I was honestly just curious!" Serenity could see and feel the genuine honesty. XCORP was not a name Serenity has heard, however. He only remembered the place he awoke the second time, a laboratory in Eurasia. "What is XCORP?" Serenity asked. "What is XCORP?" The man seemed thrilled that Serenity asked. "Well, back in the Golden Age, where you were born, or 'created,' they had built huge facilities in the biggest cities underneath certain buildings. In these facilities is where you were made. They were specific contractors formed to make exo." All of this dulled upon Serenity's memory. "Well. I apologise for taking you, I just had to be certain you weren't working for the Kings. If you would like, you can stay here the night," Serenity said this as he approached the chair the man was in, untying the ropes that had bound his legs and arms. "It's no trouble, really. My head hurts, but that's about it. So whats your denomination?" The man said, standing up and putting forward an outstretched hand. "Serenity-2," Serenity replied, taking his hand and shaking it. "Well Serenity-2, I'm Isaac. Isaac Sutherland," Isaac replied, a smile etched on his face.
