Open Letter to Bungie about D2, Supers, Weapons, and the Grimoire

Dear Bungie, First of all I am not an youtuber, or streamer, or whatever you call those folks who put out videos and are consistently critiquing Destiny on reddit or what have you. I am just a player who loves Destiny and its promise pre release, back in 2014. I know you hit some potholes in development and story writing and even through all of that the last three years have been awesome. Some people hate and I defend your vision and the game itself and with D2 around the corner I was HYPED... until the reveal last week. I watched the live reveal on youtube hiding from my boss pretending to work in hopes of seeing something awesome and ground breaking but I was left with nothing but disappointment. Not because it was bad but because to me it was not enough. The game looked great the supers looked cool and the story was set up to be amazing, but I kept feeling like I had seen it all before. Then I realized I had, in the summer of 2014 when D1 was revealed. It was the same thing. Yeah you changed some stuff but not anything significantly and the stuff you did change drastically really didn't need it. I know I haven't played the game yet but just by watching all of the gameplay reveal out there on the internet I think I have a good grasp on whats to come and to tell you the truth its not enough. I'm not going to sit hear and critique everything in a negative way but I do want to tell you how to take it all a step further. Supers - You could have given us an actual skill tree that gives us variations on each super. A “roaming super” and a “one-off”. Instead of overwriting all or some of the supers you could have just added to them a new variation on each. “One-off’s” being like fist of havoc or nova bomb and “Roaming” being like the blade dancer or hammer of sol etc. For example the Titan defender could have the same old ward of dawn with the bubble and support and everything, the “one-off”. BUT then you have another skill tree that you can choose instead of the bubble, the Sentinel with all of its Captain America glory (BTW that was SUPER original {Im being sarcastic}) that could be your “roaming” super. Again for the Hunters golden gun, same old golden gun (maybe some changes) thats your “roaming” super. BUT then you have your “one-off” super, a golden sniper rifle that does damage like the celestial nighthawk would, but then the path of the shot fired would leave behind a trail of fire that would damage enemies and buff primary attack weapons for guardians standing in it, for a short time. (BTW that was just off the top of my head, Im sure you could come up with better.) Weapons - I like the idea of the kinetic and energy weapons and the “freedom” behind them. Example being able to have a energy hand cannon and a kinetic pulse rifle, but again not far enough since you want to lock sniper rifles, fusion rifles, and potentially shotguns behind the Power slot. Yeah I love the Idea of Heavy snipers but the power slot shouldn’t be the only place where they live. If you want to give us freedom let us have it all. I wanna be able to have a load out with a shotgun kinetic and energy sniper rifle or a kinetic sniper and energy smg. Also you could have all weapons drop as kinetic weapons and give us the freedom to imbue the weapons with light to make them energy weapons, like an upgrade via an energy or item we find exploring the worlds. Of course not all weapons have to have this modification slot but some or most. Some weapons could be kinetic or energy exclusive but being able to have that option on the weapons would offer a wide range of variety for the game experience. Also the power weapons would drop with energy types already and they would be exclusive to that slot like Heavy Machine Guns, Rocket and Grenade Launchers, etc. Grimoire - I don’t know what you are thinking getting rid of the grimoire. That is all the lore and depth to the story of destiny that I love. I constantly hear “ Destiny has no story, BLAH BLAH BLAH, HATE HATE HATE” and I defend my game saying “Bro, you have no idea, there is soooooooooo much story”. Yeah bring it in game and viewable via scalable Items and such but don’t get rid of it. Don’t do what you did the first time around, but the opposite. First you locked it out of the game now your locking it in. Why can’t it be both? Lore you can explore in game and go back and read via the internet or companion app. I read the grimoire all the time on my phone. The in game story needs to be brought up a bit (alot really) but the story and lore outside the game is awesome and that is something you got right the first time. Final Thoughts -
I don’t really have anything to say about the crucible so far because Im not a hardcore crucible player but I will say this, I think making everything 4v4 is going to lock out a lot of casual players. After this last week after the reveal and all the updates we get daily about D2 I feel like its not really a sequel but more like a large expansion with the added shitty benefit of loosing all of our progress so far. I feel like you got so much critique and hate for the story (or lack there of) that you over corrected and forgot about all the other great stuff you did in D1. You focused so much on cut scenes and the story in game that you threw all the potential you had been building up for the last three years down the drain. The grimoire is a major loss in the overcorrection, but the gun system and supers also weren’t given the attention they needed and therefore aren’t as great as they could have been. Let the haters hate about the story, only chumps who didn’t play the game complained about that but once you get in and explore (like your supposed to) you find that there is sooooooooo much D1 has to offer. I hope D2 can offer just as much, but as for now I will not purchase anything until I play the beta. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post. Let me know if you agree with anything I said, about supers, weapons, or otherwise.

        • Let's be honest. If they keep up the gun system and putting previous special weapons in the power slot, nobody is going to use them. In crucible would you rather have a rocket launcher or a sniper. Which is an easier kill for the majority of players. The rocket launcher. Basically snipers are going to disappear. The NLB (assuming it acts like it did and goes into a kinetic weapon slot) which we know it or a version of it will probably be in D2, will immediately be a top gun in crucible just like it was. You can run that sucka, and a hand cannon in your energy weapon. That's basically what people were running before with a hand cannon in primary and a sniper in special

        • Try new game man. Maybe they should have given you an esclusive 50 hour reveal so you could have seen everything so there would have been no reason for you to play d2

          • I disagree with easily acquired shotgun and sniper ammo, which is why I like the special ammo nerf, but I mostly agree with what you said.
