ACTUAL MAP SIZES FOR DESTINY 2

I keep browsing the forums and noticing people say things like, "the new social spaces are HUGE," and "the patrol areas are like 4 times the size of the current biggest patrol area!" But I wonder... Does anyone actually know? Or are a bunch of overzealous fanboys just stoking the flames of hype? Seriously. Does anyone ACTUALLY know this information or are you all just bullshitting one another?

  • I miss the old cosmodrome, I miss the moon, I miss all that stuff. I would also like them to expand on those levels, as there is a ton of assets from all these levels to use. These guys talked about an open world concept before, what happened to that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTfhrONAp-c This game would be awesome if it had these sizes. If they just populated all their old stuff into new areas that you can actually explore. I feel like the old cosmodrome was bigger as opposed to the EDZ... it "felt bigger" because you had a lot more to see. Every area had a massive view and you always looked out towards it no matter where you were.

    • Bungie actually said earth was two times bigger in the stream. No idea where that got multiplied again to 4 times. Desticles at work exaggerating again *sigh*

          I just figured it out. Do you know why the Destiny world will never feel big enough? Because you can snap your fingers at any time and teleport to any mission/strike/patrol anywhere in the galaxy. Not to mention the sparrows that can fly you near light-speed through any large open space. I'm not saying this isn't convenient. I'm just saying it kinda kills the feeling of a big world. Glue my feet to the ground a little more and I will start to appreciate the size of the space that i'm in. [b]Edit*[/b] Also, all the “open” areas in destiny are just a series of rooms connected together with tunnels. There isn’t a single area in destiny that is one large open space. I can’t think of one time I was able to run out into the horizon.

          • I mean on the D2 website it says the game is about 68GB, with current destiny with all DLC coming in at 42GB, so hopefully quite a bit bigger

            • I feel like some people make up shit that no one is really talking about just to have something to talk about. I haven't seen anyone talk about the size of the maps or talk about it like they k ow how big they are. At all.

            • Hint: No one actually knows anything aside from the gameplay we've seen and the stuff people actually played at the gameplay reveal. All anyone has to go off of is what they said. So yeah, this applies to everything we talk about in D2.

              • Bigger maps mean more space between targets and nodes not more targets and modes. Using external SSD on USB 3.0 you can hit tower 45s ahead of gen 1 xbox. I for one would rather have smaller maps.

                  People are just making assumptions on what the Dev head said. He never mentioned the size of D1 maps at all. All he said was that " the EDZ is the largest destination we have ever created, maybe by a factor of 2" (direct quote from their "Destiny 2 Gameplay Premier - The Worlds of Destiny 2" video, at about the 1:25 mark). This could be comparing it to D1, but it could be comparing it to other playspaces in D2, we just don't know. For all we know the smallest destination could be the size of Cosmodrome plus Plaguelands, which would make that "factor of 2" comment have some weight. But, again, we just don't know. For all we know he could be comparing it to playspaces from other games that Bungie has created, such as their Halo days. We will find out during the Beta just how big the playspaces can be, but until then it is all just word of mouth speculation.

                    Well thats what bungie said in the reveal sream. However they didnt say it about all the maps. Only the EDZ. But still we shall wait and see.

                  • People keep quoting that one of the planets is 2x the size of any of the patrol zones we've seen previously. Personally I'm worried that while they may have increased the size of one of the patrol sones they may no have done so for the others.

                  • I almost sure that they confirmed that one of the new spaces was something like 2x the size of the largest space in D1. It was part of the gameplay reveal I don't recall the exact time stamp. As far as all the other spaces in the game, I specifically remember him calling one of them "smaller".

[url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9YoJjdEBv8[/url] Honestly, map size is the least of my worries right now. D1 suffered from PVP negatively impacting PVE for the majority of its existence. Fast forward to D2 launch, and unless they change their mind regarding the reordering of weapon slots, PVE will ONCE AGAIN start off in a position of being negatively impacted for the sake of PVP. PVE players will be forced to take less DPS or firepower into PVE all because some really whiny bad kids can't handle getting killed in PVP. Good job Bungie. Way to listen and not repeat your same mistakes...

                      • Straight answer. we don't. What I'm excited to hear is that the social space is supposed to expand throughout the lifespan of destiny 2. They wanted to focus on having one social space.

                          One of the devs said biggest patrol areas almost by a factor of 2. He was only referring to one area though the European dead zone.

                        • But are the zones actually open world like? So can you take whatever path you want to move around the playable area, or is it the same circular patrol areas again like in Destiny 1, but only larger?

                        • I feel like the social space will be either just as big or smaller than the tower. We don't need to run a marathon just to go from one vendor to another, but then again they had a soccer field. As far as patrol zones, going based off of the inverted spire gameplay it seems like their gonna be big but who knows.
