Destiny 2 needs to pick between PvE and PvP or seperate them

This has bothered me since I started playing Destiny 1. It always lacked that focus on either or, trying to balance things (Guns, Abilities, stats... etc) for PvP while making them worse all around in PvE. This is something that really just needs to stop but we now see it again with the loadout system in Destiny 2. I just gotta say, Bungie needs to pick a side or separate them. Don't let PvE players suffer because you balanced things for PvP or vice versa. For separation though using loadouts as an example why not just have Primary/Special/Power in PvE and Primary/Primary/Power in PvP? Why can't we have the two modes balanced for themselves separately? Why does PvE need to suffer because (True endgame from lack of content:) PvP nerfs need to effect PvE too?

I agree that they need to be seperated, but it goes way beyond that with Bungies sandbox. This nerf the most used BS needs to go.

Bungie has no experience with games like this. They also have no experience with nerfing/buffing things. They said since day one that "every weapon will have it's season" and "we don't want you to get attached to one weapon." While they primarily meant those sorts of comments towards PvP players, they also had PvE in mind. They seem to think that this community needs to have minigames, minigames that consist of everyone using the same exact weapon setup. In a game that has elements from so many game genres, it seems like we're brick walled into playing ONE playstyle and having to switch to a new one even if EVERYONE had fun with the setup. I was a PvE player until HoW came out, then I started goofing off in PvP(that teammate everyone hates, the one who just messes with the enemies for the laughs...I was bored okay? Haha). After a while, I finally went back to PvE......you know what I found? My PvE setup was completely trashed, checked the patches and found out why. Back in year 1 and the beginning of year 2, I was the one sitting there posting and replying to all the people saying "nerf this, berf that." You know what I told them? "Here's a thought: Why not buff the weak weapons and abilities so that there's more variety, or make the nerfs inactive for PvE?" I think I may have also posted a couple months back about perks like TLW's damage perk could just be a PvE perk, instead of flat out removing it, keep it for PvE only...same for shot package. Nobody was following me, they all hated me for trying to keep this s-fest from happening.

    • They need to get Donald Trump on this tish and have him erect a wall a mile high between PVE and PVP. As it stands right now, D2 will begin from a position where PVE has already been negatively impacted for the sake of PVP due to the reordering of the loadout choices.

Now I'm going to preference this statement with I'm not saying you are wrong, but on the contrary part of me would like to see the separation also.... however since the great update fail of crucible i had a great conversation with someone where i had reminded them that changes had at one time taken place in pve that did not effect PvP and this was a shotgun buff that had taken place during the HoW expansion. Please see the update from 2/25/2015 or atleast around that date for exact info, but bungie buffed shotguns in pve by 100%.... Now as the time shotguns were strong in the crucible were strong and of course by shotgun I mean Fellwinters lie so the change or buff didn't affect the experience in either game mode noticeably. However later bungee nerfed them in pve pretty hard at the launch of TTK.... This got me thinking since then a change like this hadn't taken place since TTK and I think I know why. Around the same time a nerf to shotguns (by damage and removal of shot package) had taken place and they removed the 100% buff all at the same time. The answer appears easier now the reason these are not separate any longer or why they hadn't made a change seperating both may be because of their initial goal. Complete game "immersion" and by this what I mean is from a destiny perspective crucible is "guardian training". Although we see things like IB and Trials as end game content the story or the universe dictates it differently and I feel from bungies perspective.... that what they are going for. Your participation in crucible is training with the weapons to go out and get better while fighting the ai so they need to feel similar otherwise if the guns act different then the experience is really 2 separate parts of the game you have pve and PvP not destiny as a whole some what with how a battlefield or call of duty feels. So now I'm seeing both sides I want them to be separate but only because as a community we have in are minds separated the 2 activities but from bungies perspective that is not the case they are 1 in the same. Just my 2 cents could be completely wrong but I feel this is why they make the choices they do.

      • They have the same issue alot of media have. This patronising hippy neo liberal idealism, all hugs, inclusive and fluffy bunnies. The bungie vid I just watched on guided games was cloying to the point I was openly asking my tv if real people actually swallow this drivel. The dream seems to be some kind of fps/facebook hybrid. An experiment in social engineering, cohesion and love...awww all while committing alien genocide and from a company whose dlc sales tactics would shame even the vatican. Funny as hell.

          • Simply put: the PvP players tend to be a far more vocal bunch, mostly as they suffer at the hands of better players. As people in PvP complain about the ammo amounts in game they take a look at where all the ammo is in game and change all of it at once. while this might work fine in theory it does force players into a rather tight spot at times. This happens most often in strikes and Raids as players struggle to get the ammo they need just to get to the next step. In a PvP match getting more ammo is a relatively simply matter as its everywhere. While balance on the surface seems like a simple idea, if often leads down a very complex and convoluted road as you try to make everyone happy. Witch always leads you to a black hole of wasted time, and zero progress in the end. If all players do is complain about a problem, while only providing their side of the possible fixes, then how can the Devs see any possible viable solution that will work for everyone? I myself dislike the MP experience, and so I try to avoid it when I can. I do this not because I lack in skill, just patience. I am still a fan of banning certain weapons (not to be confused with weapon types) from the Crucible. I just wish that both proved to be equally rewarding with out having to be a highly skilled player. Often enough people forget that these games are meant to be fun, challenging for certain, but in the end they need to be fun. And often when we detract from certain things we take away that fun for the sake of a few, just so they can have fun at the expense of the silent majority. The lesson here is that if you want any game to improve for the better, give the devs good ideas that help everyone, not just yourself.

          • Separating them would make PVP like every other PVP game.......fun for a while then I'm done with it. Playing with your hard earned gear in PVP made me and many other guardians hooked on the fun this game can bring. Hopefully the connection and matchmaking issues will be fixed for D2. If that is the case, D2 could be very, very good

                • Hmm here's a crazy thought maybe in destiny 2 enemies won't require sniping as is with 90% of bosses we have now. Seeings how vex minators have crit spots in d2 I'm sure the usual pave conventions are a thing of the past .

                • Bungie's idea of balance was way below the level of all the weapons in Y1. This current meta is more balanced than the Y1 meta.

                      • The idea behind the game is to switch from PvE to PvP and back whenever you want. If you don't like that concept I believe there are other games you can play.

                        • They don't need to pick a side. The problem is that they've been leaning one way (PVP) more than the other. There's only one sandbox fix that I've seen where they TRIED to make things work better in Destiny 1, and that was when they nerfed the hell out of hunters. What they really need to do is be balanced in their sandbox fixes so that if they change guns, they only change guns, and when they change abilities they make sure that they find other ways to make those abilities effective in PVE, and not by just increasing damage output, like they tried with Arcblade. Damage output does not make up for the versatility and utility that gets lost when an ability becomes next to useless.

                        • If Bungie offered a version of Destiny that had no PvP included I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Of course that will never happen as they would have to maintain two separate games, but a man can dream.

                          • I can't say if this has occurred in D2 or not, but I can tell you there was a reason why it didn't happen in D1. I've explained it elsewhere, so I'll stick to the short version. Bungie had a few devs working hard to get the system up and running correctly, and they did that. Such code is always rougher, not commented or cleaned up, little to no documentation, etc. And then they either got told to simply use it as it was, or more likely, they got pulled into another part of the project. So the code was jumbled up, hard to work with, almost impossible to maintain, and it got worse with every patch. That put things in a position where it was already basically impossible to separate the 2 combat systems. So when they were faced with the choice of balancing for PvP and annoying the PvE players, or balancing for PvE and ruining the entire PvP aspect, they chose the lesser of two evils. Because remember, a small change to PvE is irritating, but a small change in PvP can ruin the entire system, and I'm not being sarcastic when I say that. Hopefully they got it together in D2, but I'm not betting either way right now.

                            • They are separated, you see any ads or bosses in PvP? They are instances, arenas which are much smaller than the PvE environments, they are even hosted by the players. It's just an excuse to give an illusion that they actually are connected somehow and that's the reason they can't get any performance out of the game/consoles.

                                  • Agree with this. Theres simply no reason to force us to suffer having lower dps in pve if both are conpletely separated. Even if the sandboxes are separated in D2, the game already starts off having negatively impacted pve. The two modes need to be completely separated. If that means each mode needs different loadout restrictions, then so be it.
