Anibus Chapter 9: Reminiscences

Click this link for the Master Post! https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/225488010/0/0 Anibus stared at Vulcan's wounds. At the sickly pale skin caused by the torture of the Claws. Orion and Lyla came in before Anibus left to sleep after the long search for his comrade... brother in arms... friend. Orion awoke Vulcan from his rest, anxious to speak with him and explain what happened. "Henry... I'm... I'm sorry. I did what I could." Orion said nervously. Henry woke up and looked at Orion. "It... it's you..." Vulcan forced out with a raspiness to his voice. He gestured Orion to come closer. When Orion was directly beside him, he grabbed him by the throat and tried to choke him. "You did the this to me! You left me for dead and didn't even look for me! Anibus was the only one who came for me while you left me to suffer!" Vulcan shouted at the top of his lungs. Anibus and Lyla were able to free Orion from the Titan's grip. Vulcan began coughing up blood and fell back on the soft white pillow. Lyla signaled Anibus and Orion to leave. They obeyed without objection, Anibus went to his quarters and Orion to his own. The next day, Anibus had Merrick give the possible location of his home after describing the surroundings it. They flew to Old America, in the state once known as West Virginia and found the old oak wood house on top of a hill overlooking a small city. "This is it. Your home. Anibus... I think you need to be here alone." Anibus nodded solemnly as Merrick hovered back to the ship. He walked inside the house, which was now rotting and covered in vines and moss. He saw the many Fallen skeletons that littered the floors of his small home. The bullet holes that hid under the foliage. The faded pictures of him and his family. He was different from who he was, he used to be a skinny, tall, black haired man. Now after the augmentations he was a mountain of muscle. He saw his wife in the little picture. She had brown hair, fair skin and blue eyes. His daughter, who was but a few years old at the time of her death, looked much like her father. However, she had the eyes and hair of her mother. Anibus ran his thumb across the wooden picture frame, memories flooded his mind and overwhelmed him. He collapsed on the floor, weeping from everything that now filled his brain. He got up and walked down to the basement. The place of his family's death. Anibus looked around. Blood stained the crumbling concrete floor. The dent on the wall from his helmet remained. He remembered his daughters last words. His wife's final breaths. He went back upstairs, unable to handle the trauma. Anibus ventured outside and saw two graves behind the house. He walked over to them. On the left was his daughter's grave, he moved aside the vines covering it and saw the name Agnus faintly carved into the rock. To the right was his wife's. He saw inscribed was the name Helen. Anibus, surprised at the sight, observed two roses growing in front of the graves. Anibus clenched his fist. Fueled by hatred and vengeance. "Someday. Someday I will avenge you. Someday I will have that filth's life in my grasp. And I shall take it from him slowly and painfully. I will see that he shall beg for mercy... for death. This I promise you, and I shall not fail." Anibus said before he left the place of sorrow and loss. Merrick asked him what he would do next. To which Anibus replied, "We put a bounty in Karas' head. Tell the bounty tracker he is to be brought to me... alive." "How much?" Merrick asked. "50,000." "You're kidding? That's more than half of what we have." "Vengeance doesn't come cheap. And I am determined to have it."
