Seriously, all I ever see on here is people saying how "if there wasn't any PVP/Trials, this game would be dead".
Would that be the case if they actually made quality PVE content that also was built to last a while and provide more entertainment?
Take Borderlands 2 for a good example, it has next to no PVP and yet, people continued to play it for years after its release and the release of its DLC. I know people who play it even to this day and bought the handsome collection just so they could play it all over again.
Not to mention there are many MMO's that have been around for a good while that have very minimal work done towards PVP or none at all that people keep coming back to day after day.
My point is, if there was actually lengthy and quality PVE content all you wouldn't need to rely so heavily on PVP modes to keep your game or its population afloat.
Edit: I really don't know how people got that I hate PVP or that it should be removed as I never once said that. People kinda need to stop having this whole "You're either with me or against me" when it comes to PVP and PVE.
Edit 2: As people have pointed out, yes, there is more PVE content than there is PVP content. But the problem is that a lot of this content is in low quality, provides hardly anything to the story, and can be completed in hours.
I am not saying they need to have way more missions in Destiny 2, if anything I would say less missions that are longer and have more of an impact on the story would be amazing instead of just scattering the focus to the winds.
Imagine if you had a good number of missions that were the length of some of the Halo missions that have multiple checkpoints and massive battles that immerses you in the story and makes you want to play it over and over again, without feeling like a slog.

Edited by spacepoptart: 5/14/2017 12:36:29 AMIt's not going to happen. Bungie/Activision is thirsty for that MLG/competitive crowd, especially with the inclusion of PC now. This game will be heavily catered to PVP. Just wait and seeeeee

After playing all of the fallout series. The elder scrolls series. Then playing destiny... you realize how much lack of content there really is in destiny. The story to fallout is unbelievably immersive. Your writing the characters life as u go. It flows. YOUR in control of the characters fate. Destiny, is like playing bits and pieces. It doesn't flow. It doesn't make any sense at all really. It's obvious changes were made nd the game was hastily put back together. I've been playing since release and still have no clue why I'm doing some of what I'm doing within the game. The thing I love about destiny tho is the fighting. The weapons nd skills are so much fun to use. So unique. But You just point and shoot. There's no real solid story to get attached to nd fall in love with. Ppl say pvp keeps it alive because it kinda does. It's pretty much the only thing that makes sense to the point and shoot aspect of the game. Adding depth to the story would change that. Adding small things like, giving weapons there own unique backstory. U see all these different unique weapons, with a failed attempt to give them a backstory when tht could have been achieved. Tht would have been unique to destiny nd made the game stand out tht much more. But again... it's in pieces. Instead of grimore.. tell us in game. Let the flow of the story and the character explain. Grimore says to me, tht bungie didn't have time or didn't care enough to put that info in game. Non the less I still enjoy playing the game. I just feel it had so so SO much more potential.

PvP is the only thing keeping this game alive. Bungie doesn't have enough time to create enough content and destiny content is not re-playable. Re-playable meaning still fun the second time around.
-
PvP is the only thing that keeps people coming back every weekend to play trials and iron banner.
-
'Yeaaaah. We'd like to do that, but then we can't tailor the game to our favorite streamers'. -parallel universe development company Buntie when speaking about their game 'Fate' and it's PVP mode; the Gauntlet
-
PvP is a easy way to make your game last long. It makes game developers last and is slowly ruining gaming. I'm am old timer though.
-
PvP ruined Destiny's PvE experience, I'm really hoping Bungie realised this and do something about it in Destiny 2.
-
As with any similar game, I come for the PVE, but I stay for the PVP. There's only so much you can do, PVE-wise, before it becomes a retread. POE hinted at it. I'm not saying more PVE focus is a bad thing. But you'll never get the variety that legions of actual PVP players can provide. And that's why I play far more PVP than PVE.

Lmao.

Considering the tower is gone, I think it's safe to assume the crucible will be too, so maybe we'll get something like borderlands 2's challenge mode for 1v1s or something.
-
With the inclusion of PC for D2, it's a fairly safe bet bungievision are trying to go full MLG

1. Everything Activision is saying....and doing....points towards a VASTLY improved PVE content stream in Destiny 2. In fact, rumor has it that most of this last year has been spent working on the dev tools for the game so that they can make new content, faster. Activision recruited two studios to help Bungie produce new content. Bungie itself has nearly doubled in size as a company in the last 3 years. So I think its no longer a situation of "either-or" with regards to PVP vs PVE content. 2. Borderlands is more of an RPG than a shooter. Where as Destiny is more of a shooter...and being made by a company with a long history of making shooters. They aren't going to leave the money to be made from PVP on the table....or alienate the players who have come to expect it to be part of the game. 3. The problems Destiny one had regarding PVE were not due to PVP being included in the game. The were the result of: a. Bungie not (initially) understanding that they had created an MMO-RPG/FPS hybrid...and that the community would PLAY the game like an MMO. So they simply didn't have the resources to create content to keep up with player expectations. b. Bungie had no experience managing MMOs or RPGs...and has basically had to learn how to do it ON THE JOB....and in the glare of a VERY public spotlight on all of their mistakes. Fortunately, they finally accessed the expertise that was available at Blizzard, and things improved greatly. c. Bungie (again showing its inexperience at MMOs and RPGs) insisted on forcing PVP and PVE to share a single gear system....and a common game-tuning. Despite the needs of the respective player bases being utterly incompatible. So it ended up pitting PVP players and PVE players against one another as they struggled for control over the game's tuning, in order to get their needs met.....and it also limited the creativity that Bungie could bring to bear to PVE gear....because everything that showed up in PVE would eventually show up in PVP. Bungie doesn't need to eliminate PVP from the game. They've already done (at least by rumor) all the things that they need to do to start to allow this game to reach its full potential as that MMO-RPG/FPS we want on the PVE side of the game. The only thing that they need to do at this point is to SEPERATE PvP from PVE with respect to gear....and game tuning. That will stop the infuriating random nerfs and power-drain.....and free up their designers to give us gear that is powerful and fun to play with....without having to worry about BREAKING PVP when it shows up in the Crucible (or whatever is D2s PvP arena.)

I completely agree with you. Bungie's foray into PVP is a noble cause, but personally for me, would not have me returning day after day. The silky smooth gunplay in PvE and the roller coaster ride attraction of Strikes keeps me playing. But more PvE progression and gear is always cool and would be wonderful.
-
I enjoy the crucible too, but better, more immersive pve content would,be great.

Here here. Pve focus

Edited by wojo55: 5/12/2017 12:49:07 AMFor people played this on day one know the disappointment. It was shat on by critics and players alike expecting the next big thing like halo but luckily the superb gameplay kept the game alive and it slowly got better. I don't expect destiny 2 to sell nearly aswell as the first but it can much better if the follow certain guidelines but dont let that distract from the fact that IN 1998 THE UNDERTAKER THREW MANKIND OFF HELL IN A CELL AND PLUMMETED 16 FT THROUGH AN ANNOUNCER'S TABLE
-
I like raiding so I do hope they beef that up for D2, the solo campaign is really what needs help.
-
First expansion is a trials one ha ha ha
-
Nah we're good
-
Remember, D1 was said and repeatedly emphasized as an experiment. D2 will be a sequel to that experiment. Incomplete fargemented PvE and heavy handed on PvP existence. So don't have too much faith in Bungie to deliver. Keep your expectations low so the disappointment won't get you.
-
If D1 had so many PVE fans despite the focus on PVP by Bungie, imagine the hit it would be if Bungie focuses D2 on PVE
-
Pvp can stay. Bungie needs to let's exotics feel exotic by been OP. Also separate pvp nerfs from pve.
-
Edited by blade329: 5/11/2017 3:33:26 PMI really think they will. I love this game, but it could definitely use some improvement. With a stronger PvE game with an improved story, this could be a game for the ages. Looking forward to it.
-
No body want PvP I hate it I used to play but people start crying and bungie -blam!- off everything
-
Bungie created the online multiplayer experience with halo 2. A lot of people bought this game solely for the bungie pvp experience. It would be foolish for destiny2 to not focus even more on pvp then they did on destiny. 2 of the most popular franchises currently (COD and over watch) are popular solely for their pvp experiences. Activision sees this and has stated they want destiny2 to be an Esport. Which is fantastic for the pvp scene, the lag and unbalanced subclasses/weapons cannot be a thing in a true competitive pvp game. There will always be a meta in these games but it should be far more balanced. I also hope for more pve content but I'm more hopeful for a solid pvp experience.
