An influx of stolen artwork

The Creations page is made for creators of artwork and videos to submit their original work. Despite this, it's common enough to see stolen work on the page. Often it is hard to tell, but recently there has been one user who has been reposting stolen art from dozens of creators. The trending page of Creations is flooded with stolen artwork, which isn't fair to the creators of the original works or people trying to post original content of their own. All of the entries are titled in French. It should be obvious which ones these are. People work very hard on their artwork. Please help combat theft of people's creations by using the report tool that appears in the drop-down menu of each creation. There is a stolen work option there. Myself and every content creator who uses that page would appreciate it. This goes for all stolen work, but is especially prevalent now given this one user. Thanks everyone for taking your time to read this post. Edit: Thank you so much to everyone who took their time to help out with this issue. It means a lot to me and the large community of Destiny creators out there! Edit 2: Several of us have messaged the person in question and he has stated that he will stop posting other people's work. I'd like to thank everyone who helped spread the word. I never expected this post to get so big, so thanks a ton!

  • I just wanna ask. Is it stealing if I download a pic I like and have intentions of make it my wallpaper on my phone? Because if that's stealing I'm playing grand theft artwork daily lol.

      • I thought according to T&C, all artwork is under creative commons or Bungie's ownership. Could be wrong...

      • Stealing? Unless a monetary exchange is involved, the only thing that is hurt is potential personal feelings. Frankly, if your artwork is watermarked or copyrighted, and someone else randomly featured it, more power to them. That's good exposure. Unless they are specifically stating that they made the darn art, then nothing wrong has been done. I suppose it's a personal thing. Good etiquette as opposed to written law. I could be wrong.

It's not stolen. There is no copyright/patent filed for them with the govt so therefore they are free. Blame Bungie for not thinking this thru.

            • Is this really a problem? I doubt that many people look at the names of the artist and remember them, they just remember the art. The only thing this guy is doing is showing the art to more people. My only problem is that he's essentially spamming the creations page.

            • You shouldn't really be the one upset about it. Just the artists themselves.

i decided to actually PM this dude. He;s saying that he will stop because he got a warning from Cozmo. He's also saying that "he didn't know it was wrong" because he's new to the Bungie community. WTF? Have people's parents stopped teaching that stealing is wrong and damages communities? He literally told me (through google translate, lol) that he was doing this to help the community., Sigh....... EDIT: I thought about it... and I shouldn't have gotten involved. OP may have had his reasons to post this here and many of us agree that this behavior is wrong, but my specific involvement, though non-offensive and harmless, was not needed. I'm gonna try to do better next time and just stay out of stuff like this.

Are you sure that the artwork isn't licensed under a friendly license? Some examples: * Public Domain * Creative Commons In most variants of those licenses there might (or not) be required that the original author is credited upon sharing. I have a lot of code made by me under friendly licenses (ex: MIT/BSD, ASL and not so much as GPL) as I have creative work (sound) under free licenses and people can share. They are obliged though to credit the author (or authors), not just me, but everyone who evolved the code/sound. Imagine his work is under Creative Commons or Public Domain, so you are calling him a thief and raising sand while he can actually share it... Maybe you should eventually gather evidence before making of yourself a fool trying to trend up (for a shitty reason). Also if you think that the licensing doesn't allow it, you could contact the original authors, since you know it's 'stolen' work I assume you know who the authors are before debating this in public. It can end in both ways: 1) License violation - you might be right, still I saw you do nothing like contacting the authors (the only ones who can take action through a DMCA takedown); Instead you engage in public shaming (and indirectly 'naming'); 2) There's no license violation (ex: Public Domain licensed work): You are making a fool of yourself. There's also be the case of 'fair usage' and in such case they may actually do it... Check your local laws ;) They do mention it unless you live in Somalia or some country like that. Furthermore, is the person in cause claiming it's HIS WORK? This probably would be the first thing to consider. Have a nice day. For reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_License https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons_license https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License (etc) PS: I do condemn stolen artwork or any intellectual propriety. I also condemn public accusations without evidence.

                  • I'm willing to bet his intent wasn't to take credit for the art, but simply to share others' works on the site. It's just too blatant. That said, he obviously needs to give credit to the creators. Probably some 8 year old posting cool pics he saw on line thinking others in the community would want to see them too. (Just giving him the benefit of the doubt...)

                          • I thought it was something minor but, holy shit it was bad. Not only is it bad based on the fact that the dumbass thought he could get away with it. It's also bad on Bungie for allowing it to be "re-uploaded" in the first place.

                          • People posting your crappy "art" on a video game website is probably your only achievement in life. You should be happy.
