Why Destiny 2 Makes Sense.

I have heard numerous things on how this story makes no sense. Well, I'd like to put it to rest in one large post because it's getting annoying to read. The Cabal were faced in Destiny were not the "real deal." They were actually just a small force sent in from the heart of the Cabal empire. One of the Cabal Leaders, when tasked to assault the Dreadnought refers to the force which were bought with them as a couple of "scout legions." The force we are dealing with is the "Red Legion", which is the best out of the best. This is an elite squad right here. I do believe that we are facing the full power of the Cabal, especially if the Red Legion were sent out to the Tower. During the events of Destiny 1, we fought nothing but scout legions and their commanders. Sure, we fought some special divisions of the Cabal empire such as Siege dancers, but we (in Destiny 2) are facing the full power of the Cabal. There's a quote that describes the full power of the Cabal here; "They blow up planets and moons just for getting in their way." Why bother with an invasion? Their intention is not to destroy us, it is to conquer us, the way we attempted to conquer them in our solar system. The Last City, under invasion of the Red Legion, the best fleet that the Cabal empire has, would not have sensibly been able to hold the city. Past lore even shows this. At the Battle of Twilight Gap, when the Fallen houses banded together, The Last City would have been lost had it not been for the Reef's help with preventing House of Wolves' involvement. The Battle of Six Fronts was also a major attempt to destroy the city, The Last City held out against that too. But, the Cabal are united, and pose a much bigger threat to the scattered Houses. We do have the big laser turrets and our wall, but it would be insufficient to hold against a massive invasion from the best, the Red Legion, of the Cabal empire. Also, the in-game description of Destiny 2 mentions that our powers were stripped. So, no Sunsinger, Nightstalker, Defender, etc. Here is the in-game description which proved this: "Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home." What's a Guardian without his power? It was a crutch, honestly. The Guardians had lost a major part of that arsenal. They lost their abilities, and it would definitely be a definitive edge to the Cabal. No space magic, nothing but your guns. For the Last City, everyone knows that's not enough. You're practically left trying to outgun the best Cabal legion they have, The Red Legion. It's a loss. Something had happened to the Traveler also, which is a nasty sign, evidenced in the video. Again, without their abilities, the Guardians were like the New England Patriots without Tom Brady, or FC Barcelona without Lionel Messi. We were already weak as it is, and were in no position to face the full wrath of the Cabal empire. The Red Legion has come, and The Last City payed for their sins. Please, bump and like this post so it can be spread to more of the naysayers.

  • This is the reason I'm waffling about getting Destiny 2. As much as I love the gameplay and the classes, Bungie dropped the ball on ALL of the storytelling. Why haven't we heard anything from the Stranger? Why haven't we learned more about the Exo? About the Awoken? Why haven't we visited more than a handful of planets in our own solar system, with the dreadnaught being the only truly new local in 3 years? What is going on with the darkness? Are we even going to try and push back against it? In an entire universe where we already know about Exo, Awoken, Fallen, Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, etc; why are we starting the sequel with a race we already know about? With an entire universe worth of possibilities, Bungie has decided that rebooting is better than expanding.

  • I just want more stuff to matter. Like ships. And sparrows. And each of those not just being a different flavor of loading screen/speedy motorcycle you can use in 45 second intervals. And the various classes not just essentially being chosen by how I want to jump from one place to the next. They have a fantastic MMO framework in place, they just need to mix it up more.
and matchmaking for raids. I got screwed out of year one raid stuf since I joined like a month before TTK, and now don't have any reliable raid friends ):
• So why does know one ever bring up the stranger. So many holes. Didn't the cabal send a message way out into space. There is still the jovians as well. The 9 betrayed us and the queen when they released skolas. The only thing I wish destiny would do is find a way to convert my 14700 weapon parts 15200 armour parts. 8000 skinmetal etc. But what ever right it was only three years of my life because I thought I was promised to keep my stuff. I have 10 total guardians that was a lot of effort for a big up yours . But anyhoo

While I do understand your point of view... Destiny 2 to just looks like Fallout Remade with Activision having Bungie on a leash. I mean the TOP Halo Dev quit Bungie because of the ten year contract with people who just kept remaking their games over and over again with just different skins. Bungie's original idea of Destiny was, in my opinion, fantastic. Having the traveler be this evil thing that controls us by bringing in its armies and offering its "Light", but in reality.. we were only fueling the Traveler's strength. Then here comes Activision saying they didn't like Bungie's idea and the entire ORIGINAL version of Destiny was wiped. All Destiny 2 will be is a mix of Destiny and I'm guess some type of open world base game since we will be restricted to Earth. ( The "Light" in Destiny 1 is what allowed us to operate in space if you're human ). I mean come on people, is 100 US Dollars truly worth a game that is similar to Halo (Destiny 1) but being directed by a company that has NEVER made a game like this (Activision). Activision didn't have a story line that carried on through many different games; that is Bungie's specialty. Last thing and I'm done. Bungie originally planned to release ALL of Destiny 1 together ( Meaning $15 DLC's wouldn't exist. Only free downloadable content ) but Activision told Bungie to "jump" and Bungie stripped the game turning MAJORITY of the game into DLC Packs. Destiny 2 is nothing but one large DLC pack with others within it that you also need to purchase. And you can view my account.. I have probably been with bungie longer than everyone looking at this thread. I was with them the day I could understand how to use a controller ( 2003 because I was born in 2000... Yes, I was playing Halo when I has 3 ) and Bungie was AMAZING until they paired with Activision. And yes I know I've had an account for 5 years. Most people here only have the 3 years since destiny was released. And most people viewing this thread will be viewing to determine whether or not Destiny 2 is worth it.

    • This Ghaul fellow accomplished more in the Sol System than Oryx ever did. That is saying something. How? By exhibiting some basic intelligence and general savvyness. Every other enemy we faced smashed themselves willingly against the anvil of the City's Guardians, and we extinguished by the hammer of the Traveler's Light. But not Ghaul. Ghaul found a way to bypass our brave and glorious defenders, to counter our every ability, to render even our narrative characetr shields null and void. Ghaul attacked the City during a Time Skip. By the Traveler's trichotomous testes! Only a tactical genius would think of attacking between game releases. That quintessential moment set apart from time and space in which our guard is unavoidably let down. Striking deep into the game's code, this is the only enemy we've ever faced who has been able to strip us of gear, powers, and levels. To undo our character progress, dismantle every item in our vault, discard all materials, and even revoke our pre-paid Silver! Make no mistake, friends, comrades, this is a monster unlike any we have ever faced. Even a million tactically unplugged ethernet cables will not be enough , I fear, to topple this new interstellar scourge. "Ultra!" Said I, "Thing of glory! Ultra still, if Raid or Story! Whether Darkness sent, or whether Darkness tossed thee here ashore, Desolate yet all audacious, on this rusted land voracious 'Neath this Orb of Light so gracious, tell me truly, I implore Is there- is there loot in Destiny? Tell me, tell me, I implore!"

Cabal are attacking the Last City because they view us, Guardians,as the mightiest force in the Sol Syatem. We have beaten every other race in the Sol System and held our ground against many attacks. But Red Legion is something else they have best of the best soldiers and weapon as they work directly under the Cabal Emperor himself. They have the best Psions, Psions who are are so powerful that they can pull entire moons out of their orbits and this act was done by the Psions of the Scout legions in our System, now imagine the power of the best of Psions it may compare against a Warning itself and that is what I think happened to Rasputin. The Psions forcefully shut him down on all planets and then attacked the Last City. And in the Rasputin DLC I think we will have to wake him and restore his complete power and help him in the restoration process and protect him against his countless enemies. Now back to Cabals they are planning to conquer the Sol System and first part of a conquest is to take out the biggest threat in the area which is us,Guardians. And because they want to conquer our System's planets they don't destroy our world completely. And to defeat a Guardian the best way is to strip his/her connection to the Light which is probably why we have lost most of our power. And to restore them we will have to venture farway from our World then take help of lost Heroes who have as well lost their connection to the Light and are weaker. We will also have learn old lost techniques of old Masters of Light like Saint-14 etc. We may also have to learn techniques not requiring the Light but some other affinity from old Guardians who have turned to the said affinity i.e Toland the Shattered etc. We will also have to go to the Lost corner of our Golden Age Cities where the Light hasn't reached in centuries. Then there is Queen Mara Sov and Prince Uldren who we will have to look for help as much as we don't want to. I reckon Prince Uldren will reveal himself in time with his army of King who will be with us or against or play a neutral part in the whole conflict. Queen Mara Sov on the other hand we will have to find and/or rescue from the dimension/plane she is in. She most likely has gone to do Nine in the Jovian Realm to confront them about why they let Skolas leave which of course will get her in trouble which she will not be able to come out of alone and We, Guardians as loyal servants of Light will have to rescue her and then she will help us destroy the Cabal and help is with Uldren if he is against us or she will betray us which I don't think she as she is women of her word who returns a favor against a favor and asks for it as well. Now to the one of the most mysterious character in Destiny The Stranger who I think will not play much part against the Cabal but she will play one of the biggest part in the Osiris DLC as she is closely related to Vex and Osiris. Now to the matter as to how we have been disconnected to the Light the Cabal have most likely investigated the Black Garden and the Hive before coming to the Last City and have found an artifact to deactivate as you can see in a Cabal ghost fragment they know we get revived by our Ghost when we die so it will only be logical to first take away that power to as much extent as possible and that is what they might have run into when on the Dreadnaught or the in The Black Garden but we don't know for sure. I think we will also have to free the trapped Light inside and outside the Sol System in the dark corners of the Darkness's area of control but don't know for sure. As Eris Morn has left the Tower to find a 'power' to completely destroy the case and ancient Hive It is plausible to say we will have to find her to help us find a way to restore our old power and in doing so we may find some details on Osiris as well as he is the most knowledgeable in Hive Arcana and it would only make sense in Eris Morn went to find him. I think the Shadows of Yor will also play some part against the Cabal and in the Osiris DLC as they seem to know something about the Traveler which maybe used for the 'greater good'. Also I don't think Yor/Reyzl is truly dead. His physical body is destroyed but his Darkness/Light enerdy is still present whice the Shadow of Yor are finding and we will probably have to find it to help or obstruct them at some point in time. We still have many enemies left which are trying to kill us which will be featured in the Main Game or DLCs. Osiris DLC is 100% going to focus on Vex and Hive. Rasputin DLC may deal with Hive because I don't see any other force as closely tied as them and have some power against Guardians. Fallen may have been related if they hadn't been wiped out by us. While is DLC 3 is I think going to be focused on Savathun and Xivu Arash who are still out there and have most probably heard of the news of Oryx's death and are currently fighting each other for the title of the God Queen of the Hive and whoever wins will come to fight us Guardians to destroy the Light for that is the Nature of their Worms. We may also learn more about the Ahamkara in Osiris DLC. In the Osiris DLC we may or may not have to wake Charlemagne as well because if my speculation is correct then Rasputin will shut down and we will wake Charlemagne instead to help us find the whereabouts of Osiris. Then we need his/her help again to wake Rasputin in Rasputin DLC. Also about the splitting up of the Vanguard. I think it might because how the opinion of Zavala and Cayde-6 differ so much. Cayde must have wanted something like to recover our loot from the ruins of the Tower while might have wanted to get all survivors out of the City. And I am not saying that is exactly what must have been I am just it might be something like this. Anyways starting with this small difference in opinion it started getting bigger and bigger due to which they had fight and the Vanguard got split and so did the Guardian force. In Destiny 2 it might our job to unite them before facing the Cabal in the Last City. There are many mysteries we have to unravel in Destiny 2 like the Leader or the most powerful being in the Vex System. Where is the Cabal Emperor? How did Ghaul disconnect us from our Light? What is the faith of our Ghosts? Are they going to reveal Traveler's purpose in this Game if he is bad or good? There are many such questions which may or may not be answered in Destiny 2 due to which I can't wait for it. Also if you have read this whole post, THANK YOU GUYS A LOT and please do point out anything I may have missed or is wrong as this a pretty big post and there is bound to be many mistakes. Thanks again ☺️

I'm excited to see what this means for the crucible. I hope it's all basic grenade and gun play. Edit: Nevermind, I actually hadn't read the description for d2. "Devastating new combat abilities" could end up being new sources of power. Power equating to more space magic. If that's the case, with us being stripped of light, I hope we get to see a moral conpass based storyline and a darkness fueled subclass.

            • I'm pumped. I think we will finally see Rasputin make a move. Good or bad? Idk. But the Rasputin lore always had me intrigued. Very mysterious. The "cayde-6 reminisces" from the Rasputin grimoire is one of my favorites. The last quote in that grimoire is very cool.

                • The only problem I have, is that, three years in, we have crippled both the hive and the fallen, the two biggest threats to earth. That means, for the next 7 years, we have cabal and vex as main threats. And if we are fighting off the main force of the cabal at the start, then I don't see the game stretching out very well. But that's just my thought on plot progression.

                        • Even if the traveler dies we still have our ghosts, so I don't see how we could be stripped of our powers. A guardian without his powers isn't really a guardian at that point, it really wouldn't be destiny if we didn't have our powers.
