So I helped 2 kids who had no clue about the raid

I'm a sweaty person who loves to do classic free for all 24/7 on the weekends and I have no regrets. I am a huge meta whore as you can see on my Warlock and Huntress. Lol just going to put that out there. So back to the actual story below. When I first got the game with my cousin, we both were fascinated by every aspect of Destiny back in the Taken King. Honestly, I found myself exploring the Cosmodrome and the Dreadnought a lot. Crouch walking through the nooks and crannies of the Dreadnought, I fell in love with Destiny. When we both hit light 290, we heard about the raid King's Fall and we always wondered what lied within that raid. So after a few weeks of looking around online for guides, and enjoying the Festival of the Lost during TTK, I found a nice group of 4 people that were willing to take us on our first raid. We both were pretty much considered as squeakers since we had no clue and we both were pretty much, acting like a child even though we're 15+. So it happened. They took us through the raid and taught us the core mechanics. Later on, we hit light 310. With no idea on what to do in PvE, we checked out Trials and we asked the same group about it. You see, those people that we played with were nothing more than simple raid and chill guys around the 40's and above, just wanting to have fun with the game and help new folks like us 2. We did our first Trials run and got horribly bodied. Lol so this lead to me getting into the Crucible. Fast forward a year and a half and here I am today. My cousin left Destiny while the group of people dispersed except for one man. I haven't spoken with him for a year and the only thing he would say at times over PlayStation messaging was "I gotta help some kids with WoM." I've never seen a person that dedicated to helping others. It's kind of refreshing to see the perspective of a guy who only does raids and Vanguard related things. So I joined him and helped the 2 kids out. One of them has muscle spasms randomly while the other was just a normal little boy. As we approached Aksis phase 2, the normal one said this to me; "Hey Tiger, I just want to say thanks. I've tried to do a raid for a while now and no one would take either of us." I dropped my controller, accidentally falling off the map and making us wipe on the last damage phase. (Lol best choke ever) They laughed it off while I just sat there killing the shanks, thinking of what he just said. It made me realize that the gaming community is very selective and is just...bad. It was a poignant reminder that I am one of those people too when it comes to Crucible.

  • At least you or the disabled person didn't have to pay for the carry through the raids. Trials is a whole other ball game that encourages toxicity and discrimination. At least people on the PVE side are being civil in this game. That should tell you a lot about what Bungie has created here and what they are encouraging by being silent on the matter.
acting like a child even though we're 15+
15 is a child. also squeaker doesn't have to do with your knowledge of a raid, squeaker means that your voice is high pitched as if you haven't hit puberty yet. Edit: back when I played (have taken quite a break) I wouldn't care who came on the raid, if you needed the fight to be explained, I could do that. shrug off a few wipes all good. as long as they don't give me a play by play of everything going on. "there are shanks over here" "dude I got a crappy sidearm" "man this place looks cool" 'oh crap I didn't make the jump"

    • On our lfg post we put no kids/no squeekers. Most of the people I play with work all day and have our own kids to take care of aftet work and when we finally get to get on. The last thing we want is to deal with is some loud ass annoying kid/person... I have played with younger people and had great success but the majority isn't that way. I see nothing wrong with it.

      • And now I'm going to be taking a trip down memory lane for the rest of the day. I used to help in the raid as well. I still do actually. It started when hard was first a thing, and a team was kind enough to carry me at 28 through the raid. We had the bubble drop at the end of the atheon fight and we wiped. I self rezed and meleed him in the face, killing him. My team said that with the chatterwhite shader from my normal raid and the white light from the back of the vault, my warlock looked angelic as I leaped through the air. I got the Mythoclast on that day, and was able to use it for a couple days before it got nerfed from it's broken state. After that, I vowed to help as many people through the raid as possible, and I did it. That was when I became the PVE man I am today. I don't play a ton of PVP, instead being the guy who reviews weapon rolls, explains lore, helps with farming, and being the guy who got called at 2AM to carry a raid. Some think I'm crazy, but honestly, I enjoy it. Very few members of the community help others now. I remember people, including myself, sitting outside the vault for hours on end just helping people open the gate. It was always fun and I've done it for every raid. I only wish people would help others more. It makes me sad to see how the community has gotten even more terrible over time.

        • Ahh.. the number of times I helped entire fire teams with Atheon.. good times. Once, I kid you not, 3 of the guys spoke some Indian dialogue (maybe Hindi?) one spoke Spanish and Hindi and the other spoke English [he quit about half way through though 🤣] but somehow we 5 manned it with crap communication and translation 😂. This was back in the day when hard mode was actually still a challenge.

            • Honestly I think doing classic free for all is cheap and boosting. It's mostly newer players or casual players and they get stomped. I only usually do it if I'm playing with a newer friend. And when I do it's ridiculously unfair for the other team

                    • Feel sorry for you kid... whether looking for praise or genuinely highlighting how many selfish douche bags there are that don't help anyone; the only thing that will come your way from this post is cynical bitching from the toxic internet trolls that live in these forums! Don't waste your time indulging them. The problems won't be fixed and they will continue to be hateful little trolls regardless what you say.

                        • its only that bad because there is no matchmaking , because bungie delegated their responsibility to provide you a game instance and put this task on players of course its being abused and poorly managed

                                  • My raid team has gotten into the habit recently of running new people through the Wrath Hard Mode by either posting on LFG some obscure requirements (shader/emblem/ Ship) or finding a funny name in the tower and asking them if they want a spot in our raid. It has been a blast and we have met some good people and it keeps us on our toes.

                                  • yeah man but thing is you don't get community involved help anymore, its either be pro, get gud, or gtfo. I remember countless runs in VOG heroic people coming in and out and everyone just pushing to get the content down, along comes CE and either you're cheesing or you're kicked, then along came Skolas and it was fire burn with ghorn and once that was patched more and more fail runs barely able to get to skolas, TTK raid was ok early on, people working together but once a few people had it new players were doomed, and this newest raid, again, I see people give it one wipe maybe two and its flaming as they quit. Seems VOG was the only one where people were willing to work together to accomplish it and with D@ I fear its only going to get worse. I can put together better mythic runs in WOW than you can a simple WOTM raid in destiny.
