Special Ammo makes me want to stop playing this game

The losing special upon death thing really pisses me off. I want to improve my sniping, but whenever I get special I get killed and lose it. It's to the point where the only time I get to use special in a match is if I have a sidearm. My only option for weapon variety has become to use a sidearm. I love to snipe but the only time I get a chance to is in mayhem clash. The fact that I rarely, if ever, get to use an entire weapon type makes me want to stop playing this game altogether because I mostly only play crucible. Personally, special ammo before seemed to work well. I didn't always have it, but I could pick some up when available and be set for a while. This is no more. Edit: To all of you telling me to "use your primary" thank you for the help, but no. I do use my primary. I always have in balance with my special. The issue now is that I can ONLY use my primary. I find it frustrating that whenever I grab special it's often so contested that I get double teamed at a box. I was fine with that in the last version of the game. I'd run in, grab it, and then respawn and have time to position myself and play to my advantage. I've found kellygreen2, Dr Livingston 9, coumbie, and zarrika all have very good points in the replies. Found a good point referencing year 1. Special ammo was in constant supply, with players often having full capacity at almost all times. This was slightly in excess, but we didn't see many issues with abuse due to faster killtimes with primaries. There were issues with weapons being overpowered, but than can be balanced with a DPS change to make them more equal. Specials were used but not often abused. You may reference shotgun rushers in this. They will always be an issue as long as there is special and shotguns in the game. It's an easy, forgiving, and rewarding style of play for less skilled players.

I'd just like to remind all of you that Fusion Rifles exist. They might as well be unusable, because the only advantage they had before the changes was their comparatively larger reserves and that's now gone. Couple that with their inherent skill-demand and the problem of disappearing bolts, find yourself with a piece of slightly glowing scrap in the shape of a gun. Nonetheless, they still exist. Think about that before you say anything about the dire straits that Snipers and Shotguns are in.

        • I think that people are still trying to get over the past meta where we had pockets overflowing with special ammo. I think that people are still in the mentality that if you don't have special, you need to get special and have it and hold it and wash it, and clean it and polish it, and read to it at bed time and tuck it into their inventory, and when you need to use it, you wake it up and shoot it at your enemy and (hopefully) get a kill (that last bit was an over exaggeration, meaning that it is meant to be a joke, you know, funny, ha ha. No... ok). I think that people should instead come into the currant crucible with the mentality that your priority in the match is to not have as much special ammo as you can, but instead actually focus on the objective, or get kills to get points, or guarding an enemy rez, etc. You don't need special to get kills. Through my experience of the new meta, when you have this mentality, you will have a lot of fun. However there are so many people who are obsessed with having special in their pockets and because they can't have it, then they go and complain, and, while complaining isn't necessarily a bad thing, over complaining can generate an incredibly toxic environment. I think that if the way sidearms have their ammo is changed, then I think we will be in a meta that will be the most balanced meta that we have ever seen before in the history of Destiny, where people will not be pressured into what weapons to use based on what the meta is. (this is in terms of weapons btw, NOT SUBCLASSES just want to emphasise that point there) Now you have probably noticed that I have used the phrase "I think" a lot in this post. That is because it is just MY OPINION and mine alone. For those of you that don't know, an opinion is something that you can disagree with. I am not saying that anything in my post is completely correct. I only human, humans make mistakes. I may be completely wrong about this topic and that nothing that I have said is valid and I don't know what I'm talking about. All I'm doing is expressing my OPINION. I give you full permission to disagree, as long as you justify your reasoning for disagreeing, in a clear manner. That is how this thing called an, "Intellegent Conversation" begins. If anything in this post has already been discussed, then, props to whoever got to it first... and... yeah

        • Special boxes spawn all the time. I used my Tresspasser last night but I found myself grabbing every special box so the enemy team couldn't get any. I grabbed boxes the whole match. I don't see the issue

        • I hear you. Shotguns were a problem in the crucible. So they solved it by making shotguns unusable AND pretty much removing special weapons from the crucible. I only play with a sidearm now. They could've solved it by making primaries better. Or lose one shot from your special upon death. But no, all your ammo has to be removed. Whenever you get a faction package you should also get the question if you want a primary, a special or heavy weapon. I don't care about heavy or special weapons anymore. And Bungie nerfs this game as if people don't like special weapons. People LOVE them. They will find a way to get special ammo: there is a rise in sidearms, No Land Beyond and Icebreakers in the crucible now. So much for weapon diversity. Again, an overkill with the nerfs..... Nothing surprises me anymore.

I agree 1.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000% My opinion: Removing special ammo (except sidearm) is the dumbest nerf EVERRRR and the one that came up with this idea, i hope you get banned from destiny (developer or player)! This game is shit since this last update.. I just can't get over it, Why do you create such a great game and change so much in three years that eventually you force a certain playstyle on to players? If someone told me on day -10 before i bought this game that they would nerf the shit out of it in the upcoming 3 years i would have never bought it! I can't name ONE OTHER GAME that is balancing their shit 3 years long.......wtf! .............i'm cool again, thnx for reading :)

This change has me puzzled for the most part. After playing the new "meta" for the past few days I can honestly say that I've seen more special ammo now then there ever has been. It's almost like Vanilla Year 1 style where there was so much special ammo floating around. Heck, all you had to do was just kill someone and they'd drop special/heavy in they had it. I have seen a few matches where people run only primaries (mostly just handcannons) and a few sidearms. But I've seen way more matches of entire teams just grouping up and bum rushing with sidearms just wiping everyone out. like the moment you spawn, the entire team already lapped around and are gunning you down before your feet even touch the ground. They also grab every single special box so even if you can escape the firing squad, they still have all the ammo so you're just gonna get shotgun rushed or sniped. Now I know people are also pissed that they lose ammo on death. If your team is bum rushing like the ones mentioned above, you're gonna have special 99% of the team you respawn. Also, even if your game is chill and your average lifespan is 30-45 seconds, literally every time you respawn there will be 3-5 special ammo boxes spawning in with you. Bungie wanted to limit special ammo to make it feel "special" but there is more special in the game now then there has ever been in a long time. jeez.. Do they playtest this?? Not to mention everyone is just grenade spamming and Skorri camping even in public 6v6 and junk. I've been burned out more by smoke and incendiary grenades in this past week than I ever have been burned out by VF+ToF firebolts back when it was considered "OP"... If you're gonna allow those grenades to burn you out that fast... bring back my VF fire bolts, Bungie :P lol Even if they nerfed special even harder, people will just run around with NLB, Universal, Ice Breaker and sidearm, pretty much negating the whole nerf to begin with. After the patch that is supposed to cut down on sidearm ammo stockpiling, will that even make a difference? Like I said before, 3-5 ammo boxes will be spawning in every minute so you literally can never run out of special ammo... It seems this game was doomed from the start before we even got to play it. With the way the class abilities are set up, the weapons behave and so on, this game, at least from my perspective, can NEVER be Balanced.
Living off my Coffee hype.. gonna crash soon. Destiny 2 better have a dick ton of PvE events... seperate PvP and PvE... Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries
• Well use the icebreaker or NLB. A really large amount of players already run these weapons. I tried out skirmish last night and everyone was using side arms. Not just a few and I'm pissed I got killed by a wormwood but EVERYONE.......was using disarms. If no sidearm was equipped there was always an icebreaker. Sorta sad as hell too.....I thought this w patch was going to balance out the weapons...? Make players use more primaries....lol. What a joke. This game keeps getting worse and worse....

                • Agreed...the only issue I remember in y1 came from low impact snipers being able to quickly two tap you because of the overall excess of special ammo which allowed sniper spamming. I think the new system could work, IF you retained a portion or at least a clip of your special ammo reserves after death. It is too impactful of a change not just for weapons, but roaming supers as well. I love to snipe, but I do not want to use IB or NLB all the time just to compete. It restricts viable loadouts and forces you to either use those two exotics, or be without special ammo most of the game. Not to mention, the change has almost completely removed fusion rifles from PVP. I do not think I have even been killed by a fusion since the special ammo change went live, which is a shame because they feel strong right now. Right now you are forced into using a sidearm or some other option that circumvents the special ammo changes. It isn't a good solution for balancing.

                • It just isn't worth it anymore to go for special. Not only does it take you out of your way most of the time , but, it's unbelievably disheartening to loose it all after not having used any. And the fact that players are now more conditioned to use their primaries means that they're less likely to use their special when the moment arises. I can't even say how many times I've realized that I could have logged a kill or two by switching, but I stuck it out with a primary and lost it all. Then again I haven't really played after I was so put off by the change.

                • I understand how that can be frustrating. I was beginning to use fusion rifles more often, and having fun with them. So, this ammo change puts a dent in that. Still, if I notice that I'm getting a regular supply of ammo in a match, I will switch to fusion rifles. Still, I'm not complaining too much about this meta because I genuinely like using sidearms. It's fun. For whatever reason, Bungie wants to push these weapons. Okay, I'll bite, for now. They will wear out their welcome after a while and then I'll probably be more annoyed. I don't buy into this "git gud with primaries" thing. Use what you have the most fun using, period. Fortunately for me, I've always been partial to primary weapons. So, I'm unaffected by this meta. However, I don't think it's fair for players that favor specials. You should be able to play the way you want to play.

                • Not great with sidearms but I started vooping just before RoI (in anticipation of the supremacy game mode) and discovered I loved it. Never stopped vooping since then, but this patch has forced me to use sidearms or be on a special hunt the entire match. Here's the problem with the special nerf: Bungie took a sledgehammer to the special ammo economy, effectively nerfing fusions, snipers, and all shotguns hard, even though the only "problem" with special usage was people running around with Matador the whole match. They nerfed every special (outside of sidearms) hard because of one gun. They nerfed 3/4 of all special weapons because of one gun. Fusions are unviable now. Snipers are unviable now. Shotguns, especially the low-impact ones that needed a buff to inventory if anything, are unviable now. I tried taking a fusion into Trials this week. I got the 1st round of each game where I could use it, and then that was it. If I wanted to use it any more, I'd have to abandon my team and find a special box. It's still a great gun -- if you have ammo in it. But therein lies the rub.

My idea was always to just remove the special crates completely from pvp. You start the game with your special weapon fully loaded and when it's out of ammo, you can only use your primary for the remainder of the game. You'd have to disable the ammo regen from IB and Invective in pvp though. It adds a lot more strategy than you'd think, fixes the fact that people don't use primary, and 100% levels the playing field.

Dude run a shotgun and get used to the ammo spawn. Guys are wrecking on the small maps because there are few shotties running around. And 4 shots isn't enough to snipe with for a minute. Really. Since when did a sniper get 30 to 40 kills in control and clash. You just can't suicide shotgun anymore.
