Sierra's First Day Pt2

Part Two "Well that's just dandy, I'm a Hunter, we're safe now because I can give the aliens something to pick their teeth with!" I responded quietly, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Well at least you have a weapon," my Ghost huffed, "And you'll find that you are both physically and mentally superior to most adversaries in a combat situation, as are all Guardians. Don't say I never did anything for you." "You haven't done anything for me! I could at least not be wearing anything but my skin," I retorted. "You would still be dead and weaponless right now if I hadn't found you, and you wouldn't even have skin to wear over those bones! Now let's get moving before I decide to call those Fallen back to fight you," he snapped. Our whispered argument ended on that note and with a grumble I snuck back out of the demolished building. My ever-present companion drifted close behind me as I peeked around the corners of houses for more Fallen. "You have some soot on your butt from sitting in that building," he pointed out quietly after a minute or so. At that I flipped around and smacked him down onto the ground, giving him no time to try dodging. Unfortunately, I only realized after my Ghost yelped in surprise that I had just made a mistake. I dared not move as I listened for a response to the ruckus I had just created. "I was trying to be helpful..." my Ghost muttered as he floated up from the ground. "Hush," I shushed him quietly, still listening for movement, "Okay...I'm sorry, let's go before they find us." I wished I could take back those words as soon as I turned around. Inside the alley I had been checking only moments ago stood one of the two-armed Dreg, hand gripping the pistol on its belt tightly. It gave me a confused look as it took in my lack of clothing, and I felt my cheeks grow warm with anger as it stared. Suddenly I was aware of all of my surroundings; my breathing, the nervous twitch from the Dreg as I turned to it, the rustle of the wind passing through the undergrowth, the grass against my feet, and the cool touch of my knife against my palm. The Dreg moved to raise his gun and before I could even process what I was doing, my knife left my hand and impaled the Dreg straight through the face. Strange white gas blasted out of the opening, and resulted in the entire alien's head blowing off and its body crumpling to the ground. "Wow...you're quick, Guardian," the Ghost said in awe. Something tickled the back of my mind, and after a moment a name came to my tongue. "My name is Sierra," I told my companion. "Oh great, now you have a name and I still don't," he responded jokingly. I walked to the Dreg and was about to bend over to retrieve the knife, but before I could it vanished like a cloud fading from the sky. The knife didn't appear in my hand again, so I began looking at the ground in search of it. "Concentrate on having it in your hand again," my Ghost suggested. Doing as he said, I was surprised to find that the knife instantly appeared in my waiting hand. With one last glance at the body laying before me I rushed down the abandoned dirt road through the town. We passed by many buildings, always avoiding the sounds of rummaging Fallen, before the Ghost finally stopped me. "Wait..." he whispered, and I stopped, looking cautiously up and down the street, "There's a dormant energy signature from a vehicle of some kind. A couple of buildings ahead of us and on the right, a large storehouse." Under his direction I found my way to the building and made an easy time of getting past the padlocked door with my knife. Inside were heaps of rusting old machinery and gear works. Nothing useful came to sight as I wandered through the large building, but my Ghost insisted that something was here. A few minutes of searching with no results. I didn't know how we were supposed to find something in a space the size of a football field when we didn't know what it was. But then I caught the faint sound of electricity crackling behind me and spun around just in time to see a pair of glowing blades swinging down at me. All I could do in response was raise my arms in defense, and my eyes squeezed shut in anticipation of the pain. The pain didn't come, but I was pushed backwards a bit by the impact of the swords. I opened my eyes to see my armored forearms locked with the blades through a visor that covered my face. With a few quick movements I pushed the Fallen off me, slashed its stomach, and knifed it through the skull. "I had armor this whole time?!" I yelled. "Hehe, I...um, yeah," my Ghost sputtered nervously. "You told me you didn't have any for me!" I snapped. "It was just a joke, okay? I gave you your armor when you needed it," he defended himself. "I oughta dismantle you and leave your scraps for the Fallen," I growled. "Hey, I revived you! And if I'm gone I won't be able to revive you when you die again!" the Ghost exclaimed nervously. "You can revive me multiple times?" I inquired. "Of course I can, it wouldn't be very good if it was only a single-use thing," he answered simply. "Alright... I guess I'll have to keep you around then," I sighed. As I turned from my Ghost, a large object caught my eye though the clutter of old tech. Moving though the mess of scrap, I eventually made my way up to a huge object covered with a tarp. With a few tugs I pulled off the tarp to reveal a heap of blue and orange metal coated in dust, its triangular shape stretching a couple dozen meters in length and the landing gear it was propped up on seeming solid despite their rust and wear. "Phaeton class jump ship, made for interplanetary travel at warp speed and high maneuverability in the case of a situation where one must flee," Ghost spouted as he flew around the ship and scanned it with a blue beam from his eye, "I can't believe the Fallen haven't picked this thing clean yet." "Maybe they had as much trouble sorting through this mess as we did," I waved my hand to the discarded projects and scraps of metal around us. "This must have been a vehicle repair station of some kind," my Ghost observed, "Why else would so many different parts and pieces be collected in one place?" "Yeah yeah, you're smart, can we just get out of this graveyard already?" I complained. "Okay, systems seem good...for the most part. They were probably almost done repairing it before this place was abandoned," he mused. "All I need to know is if this hunk of junk will fly or not," I replied irritably. "Yes, at least enough to get us to the City," he answered. "Let's get going then," I snapped. "Just give me a second to get the systems running. These engines haven't burned in centuries, so they may not..." he trailed off, "Movement. We're not alone." "I'll hold them off, you get that ship runni-" I was cut short as blue bolts of energy pinged off of my shoulder plating, then whipped around to see several Dreg pushing though the mess to get to me. My knife left my hand only moments after spotting them, and the closest Dreg fell clutching its chest. I rushed the others before they could get any clear shots at me, making sure they wouldn't be able to use my lack of a gun against me. A single punch sent the next Dreg to the ground in a lifeless heap, and the third didn't stir after taking a kick to the head. Prancing through the junk that filled the room as I took each alien down, I found that I had a devastating amount of strength and agility that seemed unusual for me to have but was completely under my control. Before long the last of the Dreg were down, but I heard the calls and clicks of more Fallen coming from the entrance. "Ghost, gonna need that ship pretty soon!" I yelled impatiently. ___________________________________ Link to Pt 1: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/222290245/0/0 Link to Pt 3: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/222290553/0/0 Link to ToC: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/212710816/0/0
