Thoughts on PoE/Archons Forge

I was thinking about how the game devs have given us an arena style combat event with both the Hive and the Fallen. The Vex have noyhing of the sort because they are essentially constructicons who ise their tools as weapons. The Cabal will likely have some kind of battle ground in their coming expansion/update/dlc. Variks created the PoE presumably from some concept of the Fallen/Eliksni. The domed "cages" containing the champions and general aesthetics of the arenas indicate that its definitely something the Fallen do. The Splicers have an awesome arena to proce your worth...but why? My question is at point in time would the Fallen have honestly done anything like this? Before coming to our system they, pre whirlwind, they were a noble and civilized race of crabs. Then the Darkness and likely Oryx came and things went from good to bad. After they became hermit crabs using any peace of old debris and trash to make something impressive for themselves. These arenas would have likely only been a thing for the entertainment and or religolious rites of a golden age Fallen. This begs the question of why Variks would delite in such a thing. I know that the plausable answer is that he instituted a means for the Queen to study and kill her prisoners while gaining a bit of personal satisfaction....but what about the Splicers? Did Aksis (the crab that really pisses me off...will make a thread about him soon) think "we should really bring back the old Eliksni gladiatorial combat." After reading the Archons Forge grimoire again I wanted to add that it qould be an awesome experience to be able to enter the Forge and find the Devil Splicers mid trial. It would be interesting to watch and truly get a sense of crwshing their ritual.

  • While we like to romanticize the elinksni I don't think they were ever truly peaceful. More peaceful sure but they have always had the houses. They have always seemed to have conflict. It was house judgement's job to keep the peace and from what veriks says it's always been through gladiatorial combat. The criminals would be kept imprisoned unless they wanted to challenge someone. Minor disputes could also be settled in this way. Hope this helps.
