Crossing the Rubicon Ch. 13: Behind Bars

Countdown: Monday; five days before the Guardian Assault "Can we see him?!" Laurel pleaded as she clung onto Victor's arm. "We have to see him! Pleeeaaassse!!!" She cried. Victor did little to acknowledge her, but was struggling to walk with the warlock weighing him down. "We will, Raisin, we will. But, the Awoken are going to have to clear him first," Crimson said to comfort Laurel. The airlock opened, letting three Awoken guards to approach the titan and warlock. Victor yanked Laurel to her feet, who then smoothed out her overcoat to look decent. "Her Majesty has agreed to release the hunter, Matson Murdock, in twenty-four hours. Until tomorrow, he will remain in our temporary jail," the guard handed Victor a tablet. "Please sign for his belongings..." Victor signed for Matson's entire armory. The guards turned around and left the Guardians alone. "Wait... are we not going to go see him?" Laurel asked as she stared blankly at the shut door. Victor walked around in circles for about ten minutes while Laurel and Crimson played with blocks from the Awoken's past life. She used her force powers to stack the blocks atop of one another. As Victor and Nathaniel walked in circles, the ghost noticed a strange formation. The debris in the Reef were casting a shadow on the deck of the Vestian Outpost-- it was shaped like a hammerhead shark with four eyes. "I feel like I know that symbol..." Nathaniel said as he stared shape. Soon, the debris flew apart, just casting random shadows. "Hmm... I'll have to check some files once we get back home..." Half an hour later, the guards let the team into the prison block. They walked past many cells, filled with Fallen, Awoken, and some rogue Guardians. The guards stopped in front one cell. The titan and warlock stopped and faced the door. Laurel gasped, but a grin formed on her face. Crimson covered Laurel's eyes, "Matson!" She cried. The man, who was sitting with his elbows on his knees looked up at the group outside of his cell. His eyes got big, and his face blushed-- he was sitting there in nothing but his boxers. Matson quickly reached for the inmate clothes sitting beside him and covered his lap. "Hiii, captain..." Laurel chuckled. Victor crossed his arms and stared at the ground. A wave of awkwardness washed over everyone, even the guards despite how well they hid it. "Get dressed, Murdock!" "Yes, Sir..." Matson said as he stepped into the pants. Crimson turned Laurel around while the hunter got dressed. "I'm decent..." Matson said after sliding his shirt over him. "You should be ashamed of yourself..." Crimson said as Laurel turned around. Matson held his hands up defensively, "I wasn't expecting visiters, okay?" "Drop it, just drop it!" Victor said. He motioned to a guard, who opened the door for him. "What was that about?!" Victor shouted. "I don't know!" Matson yelled as he placed his hands on his head. "I saw a Fallen, my first thought was to shoot..." "Did it look like Variks, THE LOYAL, was threatening anyone?!" Victor asked. "I don't know! I was too busy having my face shoved into the ground!" Matson retorted. One of the guards outside huffed. "You're right... I got carried away..." the hunter turned to Victor. "When are they letting me out?" "The Queen was gracious enough to let you out tomorrow... Chances are, you could've been in here for three months minimum," Victor said as he patted Matson's shoulder. Laurel and Matson were talking alone while Victor was out exploring the Outpost. The two Guardians sat on the bench and discussed random facts with each other. "When I was reborn, all my friends used to pick on me because they all aged eight years while I was dead... They made me do fatal things against my will because Panoptes could always easily revived me..." Matson started. "One night, they carried me out into a pasture and strapped me to a metal rod..." Laurel cupped her hands over her mouth. "They watched as a lightning bolt struck me. But instead of killing me, it empowered me. I took the steel pole and swung it around like an arc great sword... The other kids ran off, screaming, and I never saw them again." "I'm so sorry," the warlock said. "After I got my powers, I got my hand caught in an oven, but instead of my arm burning to a crisp, it turned into a ball of Light... which turned out to be a grenade that blew up the kitchen... yeah, my mom didn't appreciate that..." Laurel said before laughing. Matson chuckled as well. "Time's up!" Yelled a guard. Both Guardians looked as she opened the door. "Come on, Missy, get a move on." Laurel hugged Matson before leaving the cell. "Bye, Mat..." "I'll see you tomorrow," Matson replied.
