Titanfall 2 review

I know it's been out months but I'm bored and there's never enough TF2 content on here so deal with it ***MINOR SPOILERS*** TF2 was one of my most anticipated games of 2016. I loved the first one despite all that was wrong with it (got it for really cheap so I didn't exactly feel robbed plus free DLC). The multiplayer was such a breath of fresh air and so addictively fun. The most fun I had in a multiplayer since Killzone 3. I just wished for a damn campaign. A real one not some pvp hybrid. I see what they were going for but they -blam!-ed it up. I was so excited when they announced a campaign with improved multiplayer. I was more than ready to jump back in [u][b]Campaign[/b][/u]: the campaign is without a doubt one of the best fps campaigns I've played in years. I knew Respawn had the ability to do so since they made some of the best cod games. The campaign has such a unique style to it with a forced bond between man and machine in order to survive behind enemy lines. What stood out to me at first was having dialogue options in a shooter! Dont think that's been before, not like this anyway. It can lead to some interesting and funny conversation moments with BT. This story also has some of my favorite fps levels to date. The mission where you go back and forth through time travel and the level where you're jumping from ship to ship and having BT fling you through the air and riding ships into battle are without a doubt the best levels in the game. It has deep moments and a plot twist here and there. There's even dangerous wildlife on Typhon that you have to look out for. A very well done campaign. I only have 1 issue with it and that's how SHORT it is! 5 hours?? It takes me roughly 8 hours to beat other fps campaigns (I take my time and savor it. I don't just speed through it you heathens). After the ending I was just left wanting more! I wanted the campaign to be twice as long as this. Hopefully TF3 will deliver in that regard if they do it. I just have nitpicks after that, such as why doesn't Cooper ever acknowledge anyone's existence other than BT's? He doesn't ever say anything to Lastimosa before he dies and when you're running around in the IMC facility with the smart pistol, Briggs is trying to make contact but he doesn't say anything! Why?! If I were in his shoes I'd be like "hello! Get me the -blam!- out of here!" If Jack could've been a fully fleshed out character then that would've added more weight to what was happening and made the campaign even better. Another nitpick is that we only got to explore Typhon. We don't ever go into space or on any other planets. Just Typhon. In TF3 I want to have some epic space battles with entire fleets for some final battle or something like that. I want to go to planet Harmony and all the others, there's a whole universe to discover and we're only scratching the surface here. That's about all my problems with the campaign but nothing major other than the length. I'd give the campaign an 8/10 [u][b]Multiplayer[/b][/u]: multiplayer is obviously the heart of Titanfall so what did the developers bring to the table? Just about everything we asked for. They added more guns, more customization, more titans, more titan customization, more grenade types, more tactical abilities, a complete titan overhaul, they added sliding, etc. they improved just what they needed to improve. They even dumbed down the smart pistol that gave me PTSD in the first one. Titans now have set loadouts and chassis that you can't change thus making it sort of fell like a "hero" kind of shooter by making all these titans very unique with different gameplay styles, if that makes any sense. I liked this idea because it adds more depth to gameplay and adds more strategy but I do miss my freedom of customization from the first one but hey I can't complain. The titans are pretty diverse. You have Ronin the hit and run sword beating titan, Northstar the weak. It lethal sniper titan, Ion the well rounded energy titan and more. Ion is love. Respawn also completely remade titan rodeoing. In the first one you just latched on, opened the hatch and started shouting the circuits and you had one of two options. Switch one of your lethal abilities to electric smoke to get rid of those pests or drop out of your titan and shoot them off and leave yourself exposed. Now you automatically have electric smoke that you earn through your core power up time which was a genius move and instead of opening the hatch and shooting you yank out the titans battery and you can put that battery into your titan or another titan and boost your health and give yourself a shield. After you yank the battery out you can continue jumping on them and throw grenades down the chute and do quite a bit of damage which I find more fun than shooting circuits The tactical abilities are now more fun than ever. In the first Titanfall you had Invisibility, stim, and radar pulse. Now you have those back but you also have grapple hook, phase shift, a-wall, and holo pilot. Radar pulse is now activated via a knife that you throw that reveals enemies in a small area instead of the whole map. Phase shift has to be my favorite. They scrapped burn cards and instead they added boosts. Each one is earned after a certain percentage of your titan build time and each one varies on time. Now you can do cool shit like lay down turrets, throw explosive ticks that seek out enemies, bring out the smart pistol of course, give yourself a free battery, etc. They also added a new mode called Bounty Hunt which is my favorite mode alongside LTS. It's essentially attrition but with a twist. You have to earn money through killing AI and players and then banking your bonus to earn points for your team. Love it, although the bank campers piss me the hell off to no end. Ffs play with some balls and quit being a little bitch There's also WAY more customization now. Pilot camos, titan camos, weapon camos, titan weapon camos, and titan nose art. Now they're adding more and alternate prime titans to mix it up Now with all this goodness it can't be without its faults right? Sadly yes. There are some missteps but none too major. I'd say the biggest issues are the maps and map design. The maps in the first one were much bigger and had so many more buildings you could go into and they were all very appealing. Now the maps are more condensed and feel more bland. They're not bad just not as good as the others. There was so much more verticality as well, and what the FUC[i]K[/i] did they take away my zip lines for?! I loved zipping across maps in the first one, why take away something good? Other issues include titan weapons and pistols. Why do we have to pick one or the other now? In the first one we had primary weapons, a pistol, and our titan weapon. Why take that away? That just doesn't make sense. Instead they have another arsenal of titan weapons in a primary load out called "grenadier" weapons that no one uses outside of LTS. It just doesn't make sense. Then there's the other players actions towards titans. In the first one people would run away from you if you had your titan but now they charge you as if they're as big as you. There's no fear of the giant mechs like from the first one. This may be because of the lack of titan shields that make titans more vulnerable to pilots. It's just annoying sometimes. I'm a giant ass bitch why are you not running for your life? I know in real life I would. They just throw themselves at you with no regard for trying to stay alive. It's illogical. Also the AI enemies and friendlies aren't as good as TF1. They were in massive groups making it look like a real mass battle but now they're so spread out and it makes it dull Overall Titanfall 2 is a huge improvement from the first and is a 9/10 in my book. Definitely the best shooter of 2016 along with Overwatch. I have high hopes for TF3. Along with all my requested tweaks I want Respawn to add some sort of PVE co op mode. Not sure what it should be but I'd like to see Respawn try it in the future. [spoiler]also apologize for any typos. My phone is very stupid[/spoiler]
