Lives of ARC v2 Ch. 4 pt. 2: The Revenants

"Malikeith, are you okay?!" Luther asked as he knelt down by him. He was pouring water on his head. Malikeith rubbed his face, wiping away the water. "What happened?" He asked. "You just... fainted!" Luther replied as he helped the team leader to his feet. Malikeith scolded him like he was stupid, but eventually came to the realization that he didn't remember anything after seeing the zombie warriors. "Where's everyone else?" Malikeith asked as he recalled watching Byron die. "Um, they're still outside," Luther replied reluctantly. "Are you okay? We need to get you out of here." "No! No, something isn't right..." Malikeith's face twisted as he fought the migraine building in his head. The Formless Shadow was growing like an infection in his mind. "Get to the treasury. Find everyone else and keep them together..." "I don't think so! You're in pretty--" "Luther, go! I can take care of myself!" Malikeith ordered as he stumbled over and leaned against the wall. As his senses came back, he felt something warm on his cheek. He raised his hand up, and wiped blood from off his face. Luther reluctantly walked away, watching as his friend tried to stand up tall again. "We're coming back for you," he said matter-of-factly. Malikeith stumbled around the room, using the wall as support. Sweat and dirt covered his face as he fell, time and again. "Our powers are indefinite. Our lives infinite. We are the Revenant," he chanted. "Our powers are indefinite. Our lives infinite. We are the Revenant! Our powers are indefinite. Our lives infinite. We are the Revenant!" "Good, Malikeith, good. Call them to you. They will find you soon enough," Dûr, the Formless Shadow, said. "Who are they?" Malikeith yelled as he fell to the ground one last time. Instead of getting back up, he rolled over and let tears pool up in his eyes. "They are Naedar's disciples, the ones who give tithe of Light to their lord. They keep this temple clean of infections like you, collecting Light, waiting to bring back Naedar..." "Naedar is coming back?!" Malikeith cried aloud. "He means to, but you can stop this demon from returning!" Said the Formless Shadow in Malikeith's head. "Arm yourself!" "How?!" The warlock yelled out from exhaustion and pain. By happenstance, he rolled over, and in front of him was a hilt. He stared at it for a moment before reaching for it. As soon as his dirty fingers gripped the metallic piece, a plasma blade-- glowing a deep, blood red-- ignited into existence. Malikeith hobbled into the treasury with his new sword, King's Bane-- which he learned once belonged to Naedar. He pushed a wall of moss out of the way, and immediately got defensive. Six figures wearing armor reminiscent of Pre-Golden Age, mideval gear; and black, ragged cloaks had a member of Malekith's team pinned against the wall with plasma swords pointed to their throats. All but one-- the sixth figure walked around interrogating the team. "Where. Is. He?" It asked in a high pitched, shrieking voice. "There's no one else! There was only five of us!" Luther yelled to the black cloaked figure, ready to kill him. "He is here! His Light sickens this temple!" Yelled the sixth figure, who seemed to be the leader. "Let them go!" Malikeith ordered as he raised the sword. It's energy crackled and roared as it lit up the room with red. As if honed in by the power radiating from Malikeith, the six figures snapped their heads to him. They let go of the team and slowly approached the warlock. "You are the false Risen king!" Yelled the leader as it pulled out a black plasma sword that was darker than midnight. "For the record, this is why I said we should have left when we could!" Vladimir cried. The six Revenants began fighting Malikeith! Their swords wailed with power as they clashed again and again. "Run!" Malikeith yelled to his team. They helped each other to the exit, but stayed to watch. Malikeith force pushed a Revenant into a pillar with such power that the pillar shattered and fell on the figure. The Revenant lord engaged Malikeith in a one on one fight. They were equally matched in aggressiveness. To help, the other Revenants moved in to subdue Malikeith. But before they could, the rest of the Tau'la patrol team ran up and tackled them! Now, all twelve people were fighting each other. "Go!!" Malikeith yelled as he held the Revenant lord's sword back with his own. His strength was failing, and the black blade inched ever closer to cutting his throat. "Get to Tau'la and tell King Ta'Chal to never enter this temple!" He continued to demand. The five people from Tau'la quickly obeyed and ran for the exit. The Revenants started to chase them, even the one fighting Malikeith pushed him down to make sure the "infections" couldn't leave. Malikeith slowly pushed himself to his feet, breathing heavily and drenched in sweat. "Do it! Take their Light!" demanded the Formless Shadow. Malikeith held up his arm and caused the Revenants to freeze-- they were unable to move at all, but were lifted into the air. He began absorbing what Light they had keeping them alive. As he did so, the temple around them began to collapse. "Go with them!" Malikeith ordered Vladimir. The ghost quickly flew away, dodging pieces of rock before one hit him knocking him to the ground. With his broken shell, he tried to push himself up, but another rock crushed him entirely. Ignoring the impending doom, Malikeith ruthlessly absorbed the Revenants' Light, them dropped them to the ground. Despite his ghost being destroyed, and his connection to the Traveler severed, he felt empowered by the additional Light that now coursed through his body. "Run!!" Byron yelled as they tried to escape the temple. Everyone got out, but a rock hit Luther in the head, knocking him out cold. Byron and Jaeger grabbed him by the shoulders and dragged him the rest of the way. They finally made it out and were greeted by the course sand and bitter wind. Everyone was exhausted, but they turned to see the massive sinkhole that now filled in the temple. The wall of sand that shot into the air, now rained back down on the team. Byron was breathing heavily. He looked down to Luther, then to everyone else. "We need... to tell... King Ta'Chal..." He muttered out before wrapping his body into a ball and covered his face.
