Let's talk about Bungie and Bnet

#Community is for discussing what we all have in common. So, what do we all have in common? Bungie. I wouldn't be surprised if you're confused as to what the purpose is to talk about something other than Destiny, but hear me out. There's a lot more to being apart of this website/app than just Destiny. Whether you are on the Destiny app or the Bungie desktop website, we are all a part of something called the Seventh Column. To put it simply, The Seventh Column is the official name of the Bungie Community. We are all a part of the Bungie Community. It doesn't matter if you are interested in just Destiny, you are automatically put into this community. Think of it as a family with Bungie as the linchpin. Now with all families, there's history involved. So much history, in fact, that it would take me many hours to go through it all with you. Onward to the point... I would like to talk to you about anything regarding Bungie and Bnet. Preferably, I would like to pass down the rich lore and history, but I am happy to just keep the purpose of this forum alive in this thread. Maybe I'll bump this thread with Bungiepedia articles or try to discuss certain topics, if it comes to that, but I hope that you newer users will chime in. Thanks.

Bungie is about Destiny, not about Bungie. What I mean by that is... back in the Halo era, obviously Halo was their focus. But they had a community that was maintained through conversation with that community. Yes, in the weekly updates they would talk Halo... but they would also throw in things not about Halo such as what is going on in the studio, or events they have. Now? It's all 'Hey Guardians' and 'here are Destiny streamers and clips.' Hell, we haven't even really seen the Pentathlon in two years. Bungie traditions are gone from the public eye. Anything that isn't about Destiny is spurned. And they no longer have a community- they have 'fans.' And there is a very distinct difference between the two and how they can behave and contribute. By not nurturing a community and instead catering only to fans, they have forced themselves into a pool of screaming and ranting children that will further discourage them from trying to CREATE an actual community. Maybe it's just nostalgia for the old community forum or something. But with them neutering groups, never having actual conversations with ANYBODY here on Bnet (you're lucky to get one reply, and a second reply means ragnarok is coming), and focusing only on Destiny in every single piece of text they put out... they've changed. And while change isn't inherently bad... this change in particular is certainly not good. But then, we've known that for a few years, and a couple times received token bone throws (such as the one time interest in reviving the community forum), but it never lasts. I don't know what makes my opinion anymore important than a new player's. Perhaps I feel I have perspective. Or maybe that I'm rational and not just blindly ranting. But maybe if there's one distinction that makes my words more valuable than an average joe's... it's that when I talk about my opinion it isn't referring to an opinion on Destiny. It's an opinion on people, spoken as a sociologist and a long time... 'fan.'
