LFG 101 - How to increase your chances of finding a good group for running raids.

I just wanted to compile some "best practices" when using LFG to find a group to successfully complete the raid. If you have a clan or group of guys that you complete the raid with every week, then this isn't for you. This is more for guys like myself that team up with randoms on LFG 99.9% of the time in hopes to get the raid done. If there is anything I missed, please feel free to comment below. I will try to put these in order of importance. 1. Gear/Light Level Make sure you have the gear to contribute. You don't need Outbreak Prime, Dark Drinker, or any special weapons to contribute and get the raid done. With that being said, at the very least bring a good primary(I have used all types with success), a sniper rifle, and gjallarhorn. You can get a good enough primary and sniper at the tower. If you haven't done the gjallarhorn quest, then get it done. It really isn't hard. Make sure you are at the recommended light level to contribute. If your light level is too low, you will do minimal to no damage to enemies and will most likely spend most of your time in the "Guardian Down" screen. Light level isn't everything and you don't have to be at max light level, but at least be the recommended light level for the raid you want to do. These are the most important things to do to have success in the raid, so if you don't have the proper gear and are below light level requirement, then take care of this first. I know it sucks, but running strikes will get you infuseable gear up to 385. The higher you can get your light level the better, but at the minimum you want to be around 370 for normal mode and 380 for hard mode. I kid you not, I once had a guy join my raid group to do hard mode kings fall will no clue on what to do and will nothing but blue gear. Don't be that guy and take a few hours to equip yourself to get the raid done. 2. Be Honest/Own up to your mistakes If you haven't done the raid before or are unclear on how to complete a certain part then speak up and be honest. Get instructions before starting. I can't tell you how many times I have wiped on a certain part of a raid because an objective doesn't get met or the same guy gets killed over and over and over again. Don't be that guy. Constant failure will usually end up in getting the offender getting kicked from the fireteam or will just cause people to start dropping out. Also If you mess up just admit it. I joined a group at Aksis stage 1 yesterday and right off the bat I screwed up. I just screwed up my jump and jumped off the map. I called myself out and we completed it the very next time and Aksis 2 on the first attempt. I have been in groups where people die and blame others for their deaths. Don't do that. If someone is causing you to die then just be civil about it. Usually once your fireteam starts being negative it quickly gets out of hand and leads to people dropping out. 3. No kids I have seen this many times in the description line of LFG and although I don't agree with it, I do understand it. I have raided with many good players that were young and I know that this doesn't apply to all "kids", but most are a pain to raid with. They just cannot shut up for more than 2 seconds. Constant talking, usually about nonsense, it can get very frustrating especially if the team keeps failing. If you are a "kid" and want to have success getting the raid done, then stop with the unnecessary talking. I was raiding with a group of kids this week and one of them kept talking about the best weapons to use in the raid and giving instructions on what we should be doing. It was ridiculous because he kept dying and he was giving these instructions while dead staring at his ghost. 4. Start Your Own Fireteam If want to experience the raid for the first time or expect to fail numerous times because of lack of experience then make your own post on LFG. Don't hesitate to mention your expectations in the description. There is no shame in being a newby and wanting to take your time learning the raid without being called out, but it is better to be in control of the situation and start your own fireteam, than to join somebody else's and prevent them from completing the raid because you need time to learn the mechanics. 5. Know What to Do This is another thing that you will often see in the description section of LFG posts. If you don't want to waste your time learning and getting a fireteam of newby's together, then do some research before starting the raid. Before attempting the raid I watched a few videos to help understand each boss fight. Sometimes this isn't enough and you will still need additional info, but you can at least come prepared with at least the concept of each fight. 6. Understand LFG Language When looking for a raid group on LFG there are certain key words you can look for in the description of the post that can clue you in on the type of team you are joining. This is important to know and can save you a lot of time. See the following list: "Chill group"/"Looking for Chill group" - In other words this group will mostly be compiled of newbs. They want you to be chill and to expect wipes. This type of group is good for learning parts of the raid, but don't expect to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Most likely you won't get it done at all. Join this type of group to learn. I joined this type of group early on to learn the Aksis 1 and 2 fights. It was a good learning experience because I got to spend a few hours learning the mechanics of the fight, getting good with the cannons, rotations, etc. Now I avoid this type of group unless I want to help newbs. "Must be light level 400"/"Have challenge emblem"/"Will get kicked if..." - Avoid these groups like the plague. Not worth the stress. Usually filled with guys that are gods gift to raiding. Sometimes these posts are created by guys hoping to get carried themselves. "Must have Dark Drinker etc." - Usually guys with not much exp. that think you need these weapons to get the raid done. They help but they aren't required. Usually these types of guys will want to control your loadouts and class setups. Usually these guys think they are better than they really are. "Must be experienced" "Must be light level 390+" - These are usually groups that I try to join. Groups that are not expected to be carried and guys that can hold there own. 7. Get Raids Done ASAP - I find that I am less likely to find a good raid group the longer I wait after the weekly reset. I have had the most success finding good groups of LFG on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. After that and it is pretty much hit or miss. Most likely this is because the serious raiders are getting the raids done ASAP and the rest are waiting until they have time which is usually on the weekends. Try to get raids done as early after reset as possible. **This should have been one of the first tips on this list, but please have a mic. Nobody wants to guess if dancing or pointing means you are empowered left, right, or mid. I will update this post if I think of anything else. Hopefully this helps some of you have more success with finding quality groups on LFG and getting the raid done.

    • The "must have dark drinker etc." part is kinda true and kinda untrue. I don't trust randoms enough to let them use whatever they want. I want to get a raid done as soon as possible with as little mistakes as possible, and if they have the gear to make it go smoothly, then I want them to use it. It's not because, "I think I'm better than I really am," (although I do agree those people exist) it's because I've had such bad experiences with LFG that I want the best players/gear to join as possible.

    • The part about "Must have Challenge Emblem/ Must be 400 Light" is something I disagree with. Those are meant for people who want to Raid with very experienced players that know exactly what they're doing.

      • Problem is nobody raida anymorw expect kids that just baught Destiny. I attempted to do WoTM the past two nights with random LFG groups. I was just doing it out of bordom, I've already beaten the raid multiple times. Both groups were so bad that we couldn't beat vosik. Kida kept dieing and people kept leaving, it was horrible.

        • I disagree with the chill groups bit. I have always looked for chill groups and ask for chill group. I have done a a lot of raids and it's very rare you get with a newb group. Most of the time chill means they are not going to be bursting blood vessels if you die or you need a minute to take a pee. I do strongly agree about the 'have emblem, armour, weapons, quick run' advert though. And I would like to add avoid people who advertise as a 'sherpa' but want experienced players. That makes no sense and usually means they think they are good but they are not.

        • I have three rules, whether I am posting or responding: 1. When new to the raid, look for language like "good teammates who will listen and have fun". "Skilled Raiders" as a bonus. 2. Quick runs for gear, look for experienced players. 3. Never post or respond to anything demanding gear or max light. Points 1 and 2 ensure you have what you need. This kind of post tells you one thing only, that you will almost certainly be raiding with several assholes. Most of my best raids made light and gear irrelevant. The player and whether he/she can reliably handle a job is much more important.

          • Lol the raids aren't hard. You make it seem like it's almost impossible to complete with lfg. People are so funny with this dumb @@@@. If someone dies we'll still beat the raid with 5 or 4. They are a joke bro and if you're struggling maybe you're the person you're telling people to avoid

            • Why is it that when you friend the good players, 95% of them never raid with you again and you always see that they are in an lfg raid? I've done a lot of raids, both lfg and with friends I've had since the beta. I've had experiences on both sides of the scale for good and bad. But 95% of the time when I do an lfg run, we beat the raid relatively easily and friend each other, only to lfg the next raid and see ourselves raiding in separate lfg groups. Wtf?

                • Best suggestion I have is to create your own group! You can't get kicked for something petty if you're in charge. Be honest to, if you're in a hurry and need experienced players cause you're low on time say it. If you're new to the raid look up the mechanics for each encounter on YouTube let everyone know it's your first time but you have an idea of what you're doing. Never go in blind.

                • Personally, Chill Group doesn't always mean "newbs". I tend to see it as people who want to get it done with no stress and just to have fun, and if there are wipes...so be it, you wont get yelled at for it. If you're the one causing the wiping, you wont be yelled at for being shit...to the limits of some peoples paitence anyway. Cant stress enough watching videos of the Boss Fights if you havent been in them. For example my clan hadn't done Oryx till just after New Year; mainly because we got intimidated by Oryx and all the stuff you have to watch for and do...I thought it was over complicated etc. It isn't that at all. We broke it down into parts, got each part down....BAM we killed the SOB. Just did our first Hard Oryx completion tonight in one sitting because of, while doing Challenge (because it's easy as shit now with the DPS 400s do of course) - Watch the videos through, try and watch a few from different perspectives. - Break the videos down, understand each particular task, memorise that task. You'll find that you need to do more than one thing, because if someone dies...then someone needs to fill that place. - Dont Panic. Shit can get overwhelming if you let it, but if you remember the rhythm of the fight....you should be fine. - Always Communicate, don't go quite....otherwise you will get people yelling at you because you didn't let them know about empowerment/artifact/plates etc. At the end of the day, be paitent and respectful. Communicate clearly and efficiently, but most of all...try to have fun doing it. Thats why most of us are here.

                • I had an experience with a kid a couple weeks ago. He said he was doing right side at asskiss because that was the only side he could do. Started and wiped straight away, he was all 'omg its not hard blah blah' wiped again and he was getting mouthier 'one more wipe and im leaving' At this point i was fed up and lost it telling him when he can do all three sides and not just one then he has earned the right to moan, until then stfu. Next run we did it, but guess who died and wanted a wipe? Him. I said no keep going and i will do two cannons. Not all kids are bad, had a great one in trials last night,i just try to avoid when possible.

My Opinions on WotM Groups: (Longish read?[IMO])
I prefer people in my WotM Heroic groups to be at least 395, because by then, they usually have Raid Experience. Vosik Phase 1: Call out if you need help with Voltage Eaters, which you shouldn't. The 2 people in mid help the people on left and right. Preferred Loadout: Chaos Dogma Ex Machina Gjallarhorn Vosik Phase 2: If you keep getting killed by ads at Vosik, stay back. A team member staying alive is more important than one bomb. Preferred Loadout: Any mid/high Impact scout with Explosive Rounds Ex Machina Dark-Drinker Siege Engine: 3 Skiff Strat is the best thing you want for Siege Engine. If you are assigned to take out Shock Mines, do it. It's not that hard. You shouldn't be killed by the Walker. Just take cover. Preferred Loadout: Primary with Firefly is nice, although it does not really matter Ex Machina Gjallarhorn/Dark-Drinker Aksis Phase 1: Kill the turret ONLY when Captains spawn. If you are throwing bombs, make sure the turret stays down. If you have trouble killing a Captain, which you shouldn't, anyone who already has a cannon can shoot it. It helps if Cannons anticipate their Servitor before it is called out. If you need to switch, Cannon holder does so. Preferred Loadout: Steel Medulla Ether Nova/Quantiplasm Dark-Drinker/Raze-Lighter/Gjallarhorn Aksis Phase 2: Same thing with Captains. Call out last bomb, and let everyone get into position. During teleports, ONLY Empowered people should be talking. If your team has nearly all Dark-Drinkers, use Cannons in the first two teleports. Switching, same as above. Preferred Loadout: Same as Vosik Phase 2 Ex Machina Dark-Drinker

I’ll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
Honesty is a key point. Don't waste people time if they are asking for experienced players and you clearly have no idea what you are doing. We had someone this week who at vossik just kept on dying. He was a sun singer and every time, Before the first damage phase would die multiple times and he just couldn't stay alive. Even with self res he would die again before he got his super back. We asked him, do you want to swap with someone, do you need help, what is the issue? (As he claimed he was experienced) after 20+ minutes of wiping he yelled 'that was the first time I died stop having a go at me!' We of course all started laughing and he left. Got a replacement off LFG and got the entire rest of the raid done in less than 30 mins.

I ask for chill groups not cuz of lack of raid exp can check stats if ud like bt because no one likes to raid with that one guy thats just raging the whole damn time n bitching.. ie not chill. Chill usually means they wna get it done but if mistakes happen its not a big deal and just want a nice mellow raid clear.. other than that good post for the noobs...

                            • Great tips!! I've been meaning to make a post like this for a while now, but now I don't need to- because all of your tips are spot on. The only thing I would add is communication, which goes along with your pint about having a mic. I admittedly haven't done raids that much, but even from my limited experience it's easy to see the difference good communication makes. This is actually a really easy raid if all of your teammates (including you) communicate well (especially calling out who's empowered and where, and which sides the elemental servitors are on). Communication also applies for making plans before each encounter. Even for experienced raiders, it's important to know your teammates' strategy. Vosik:
Planning ahead of time isn't that relevant for the first two encounters (although calling out monitors and doors in the second phase of Vosik is critical!), but I've found that it's more important later on.
Siege Engine:
For the Siege Engine, make sure to tell your group to go the straight/ right path, instead of to the left (it is doable going to the left, but a lot harder). The strategy that's worked best for my groups is to have one person carry the same part the whole way, and the other three clear ads (although whoever has the Engine block will probably need help once they're on the Siege Engine). Also make sure that you take care of the turrets on the second ship before you pick up the parts, and you've assigned someone to take care of Meksis when he spawns on top of the engine.
Aksis:
For the two Aksis fights, there isn't that much to plan out ahead of time. Just assign two people to each side, and make sure you know if empowered people will switch right away or after you kill captains (I've found that the latter works better). These encounters are all about in the moment communication, like I mentioned above- call out where the servitors are and who's empowered.
Also, here's an example of a good LFG post for the forums to find a group to help you through Wrath of the Machine for the first time: Title: WoTM Help? Requirements: Just fill these in as normal, make sure you have "mic required" and "guide needed" checked. Description: I finally got up to a high enough light level that I want to try WoTM for the first time. I've watched videos, so I know what to do, but I'd really appreciate any help getting through the raid for the first time. If possible, I'd love to get the monitors for OP. I'd like to start at about (time) EST. Thanks so much, looking forward to it! I don't remember the exact post, but that's similar to the one that got me a great raid group for my first full raid completion last weekend. They were nice, experienced players with good communication, and showed me the location of all the fragments and helped me get all the monitors. Just one week later, I have a nice shiny Outbreak Prime. Good luck to all those who are yet to venture into WoTM! Wow, I didn't mean to write that much. Hopefully this is a helpful addition to your list.

Don't tell people they suck or they're bad if they have a low K/D or can't do a raid. That's why this clan was made. To help people with whatever they need help with. - have a good Xbox reputation. I'm not accepting anyone with a "avoid me" or a "needs work" reputation. If you join the clan with a good reputation but then go down to a "needs work" reputation, you have 3 days to fix it or you'll be kicked. If you get a "avoid me" reputation and your in the clan, it's an automatic ban. - have fun! This clan is about making sure people have fun in the game. So if your having fun, then our clan is successful. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- PS4 players: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - you must be a good sport (it's ok if you rage a little, everyone does that, but don't take things too far) - you must be supportive. Don't tell people they suck or they're bad if they have a low K/D or can't do a raid. That's why this clan was made. To help people with whatever they need help with. - you must have not been banned. If you were suspended ONCE, that's fine. Anymore then once and you won't be accepted. Is you were banned, you will not be accepted. - have fun! This clan is about making sure people have fun in the game. So if your having fun, then our clan is successful. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions you may have: Q: why won't you accept anyone with a bad reputation? A: because people with a bad rep are usually bad sports or get mad at players easily. This clan is about helping others, not putting people down. Q: what makes your clan different from others? A: we don't care how sucky people are or how low someone's K/D or elo is, everyone is welcome. I have some pretty good players on both xb1 and PS4 that are willing to help anyone and anything. There people right now chatting on the group wall about what they need help with and there are people who are willing to help them no matter how bad they are. We accept anyone. All I ask is that you be a good sport. Q: if you don't get your rep up in 3 days, will you get banned? A: no. You will get kicked until you bring back up your rep. Then you can join. Q: is this on Xbox one or PS4? A: both. This is a clan that helps people on both Xb1 AND PS4. Q: what happens to people that get bad rep and good rep over and over again? A: it's a ban. People who's rep keep going down and up means they are sometimes good or bad sports. We need good sports in our clan only. If they manage to stay on a good rep, they can come back. People with avoid me reps will be permanently banned as they are not at all good sports. If you have any more questions message me in the app and I'll be happy to answer them! If your interested in joining message me in the app.
