Destiny 2 Suggestion: Gift from the old, given to the new.

I've already gone over this in previous posts, but I feel like I could have presented the idea in a more effective manner, so I'm going to try again. If you have any constructive criticism, please leave it in the comments below. In Destiny 2, there are rumors you start fresh, that when you pick up the game you'll be a new guardian, earning new loot, and earning your reputation again from the ground up. Say that happens. You start the game, you have nothing. You progress through the story, you try the new weapons and subclasses, some are actually pretty decent. By the time you defeat the final boss, you have a pretty good feel for the new gear, you know what subclass you're most comfortable with, and you have a few weapons you've decided you'd like to keep. After the final boss battle (and possibly a few weeks have passed since release), in some obscure part of one of the patrol areas, a giant locked door reveals itself. You're not sure of how to open it at first, so you leave, making a note of the markings on the side of the door before you do so. These markings are decoded by the community, just like they did with the OWL Sector stuff and Outbreak Prime. They decipher into challenges, tasks for you to complete. Curious to see what's behind that door, you decide to give it a go. The challenges are long and hard, but through patience, practice, and sheer determination, you complete the trials, you slay the [insert ferocious and possibly draconic beast here], and you obtain the key to the door. Returning to the door, you enter the key and a cutscene follows: The door slowly opens, revealing a series of crates, old tomes, piles of glimmer, mats, and strange coins. Your ghost finds a note hastily scribbled on the wall. It indicates that whoever wrote it was uncertain about the future, and wanted to make sure that whoever followed in their footsteps would be well prepared for what lay ahead. They are leaving the room and everything in it to you. It is heavily implied that the one who wrote the message was your guardian from Destiny 1. After the cutscene, you are returned to orbit. You are notified that because of the room you found, your vault space has been essentially doubled. You are also encouraged to go through the items you received. When you next open your vault, you'll notice a lot of familiar items inside:
* All of your guns from Destiny 1, modified to be compatible with whatever system is in place in Destiny 2. * All of your armor, ghost shells, and class items, modified in the same way. * Up to nine tomes, each one detailing methods of controlling light. Depending on your class, you can use up to three of these to unlock the subclasses from Destiny 1. You'd need to level them up again, but the tome would start you off with the first grenade, double jump, melee, and super. * All of your old sparrows, jumpships, horns, emotes, emblems, and shaders. * All of your mats, strange coins, and motes of light. * All of your Glimmer and other currencies.
Players who didn't play Destiny 1 would still receive a ton of loot from this, such as:
* One guaranteed D1 Exotic gun for each slot, two guaranteed D1 legendary weapons for each slot. * Two guaranteed pieces of D1 Exotic armor for each class. A guaranteed full set of D1 legendary armor for each class. * Tome for Gunslinger, Tome for Striker, and Tome for Voidwalker. * Three D1 sparrows, with equivalent stats as the trick sparrows we use in SRL, like the Bitstorm and the Prismatica. They will also come with three D1 sparrow horns. * Three D1 legendary jumpship, three D1 emotes, three D1 emblems, and three D1 shaders. * 50 of all planetary mats, 50 strange coins, and 100 motes of light. * 20000 glimmer.
This vault can only be opened once per account. In addition, once it is opened, the player can access special activities with loot pools exclusively containing D1 items, which won't be available anywhere else. Through these activities, players that started in Destiny 2 can gain equal footing to those that returned from Destiny 1. ==== The reason I believe this would be ideal, is that it will provide old players with the chance to carry on the legacy of their original guardian, whilst still providing new players with the chance to catch up. Since it won't be accessible anyway right from the get-go, it'll also provide both old and new players with the chance to play Destiny 2 as if it were a fresh start and experience the game for what it is. It's only after they've experienced the new game to some degree that they'll be able to enjoy the old once again. Because of this, I believe that when the vault is opened and the old weapons start coming back, the game will be new, the systems will be different, and so will the meta. The old weapons won't dominate the crucible like many fear they would. Like it or not, having D2 be a complete reset on everybody's progress would go against what Destiny has been trying to do for the past few years. Only by carrying on the legacy of our guardians can they truly become legend. If you agree, please don't forget to like the post, as it increases the likelihood of someone influential seeing this post.
