tl;dr version: Make a statue in the tower showing your year 1 guardians, with a plaque based on your moments of triumph.
Full idea-
Saw a post asking for Destiny 2 to begin with one first mission where you play as your old guardian, but this overlooks that Bungie probably does not want to bog down the game file by bringing the game assets for EVERY year 1 item for one mission, especially if they changed game engine and all those old files are now in the wrong format.
What I am proposing is a place in the tower where three 15-foot-tall statues stand. They are rather abstract, using just the blocky geometry from the Destiny app and the same stone texture all over. If you never played Destiny 1 on this account, they are just generic guardians, but otherwise they are YOUR Destiny 1 guardians, wearing whatever they currently have equipped or whatever they last had equipped once the Destiny 1 servers shut down. Everyone will look at the statues and see there own three guardians.
Furthermore, the plaque at the base could even be customized based on the Moments of Triumph associated with your account, reading only the things you did.
1) A new guardian reads something like:
"Eyes up, guardian"
Guardians of the first world, 2069-2076.
Here we honor the first guardians, who braved endless horrors for the City before meeting their ends at the battle of Emperor's Wrath.
2) And experienced guardian reads something like:
"Eyes up, guardian"
Guardians of the first world, 2069-2076.
Here we honor the first guardians, who braved endless horrors for the City. These guardians tore out the heart of the Black Garden and dethroned Xylar the Timeless. They crushed the bodies and souls of all Oryx's lineage, including Crota his prince, before killing the King himself. Twice. They neutered the Fallen, gutting all their leadership both living and synthetic, even choosing to spare the life of Skolas, the prophesied Kell of Kells, just so they could humiliate him in the Prison of Elders again and again for 2 years. Thanks to their valiant efforts, to this day Taniks still has no house. They even rose to the rank of Iron Lords, rebuilding this great league of heroes before bravely meeting their ends at the battle of Emperor's Wrath."
I think this would be an enduring tribute that would not be too technologically strenuous. What do you guys think? Bump if you want this.

Edited by SancusXenon: 12/25/2016 1:30:39 AMHere's what I'm gonna do. Whatever character we play as in Destiny 2, whether it be our current character or a new one, I'm just gonna pretend. From a gameplay standpoint, they might be different guardians, but from a role playing/headcanon standpoint, they will be the exact same person I played as in destiny 1. I refuse to deny my characters the ability to progress from destiny 1, even if it's just in spirit.

Sounds cool.
-
So similar to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, where the player's character from the first game has a large statue in the centre of the social area.
-
No. I wanna keep my character. I'm kinda attached.
-
I'm actually in agreement. That's good work.
-
F that I DEMAND to play in Destiny 2,3 or 4 as my guardian. Just new everything else each game.

One can dream...

Great idea:)

No thank you. My Guardian is ugly af

Edited by WBU39: 12/21/2016 11:04:09 PMNope. Enough with the god complex of this game. It really breaks the suspension of disbelief when our guardian and ours alone took down the Black Garden, Oryx and Crota in the story missions. Everything about our guardian has to go away, like he/she was just another guardian

Twilight garrison ugh
-
they are YOUR Destiny 1 guardians, wearing whatever they currently have equipped or whatever they last had equipped once the Destiny 1 servers shut down.
*looking up at statue* "... I wish I never got that Twilight Garrison..."
-
Exactly, just like what xenoverse did.

Edited by Terrell: 12/22/2016 7:06:30 AMThat's doing way too much unnecessary work.
-
Just pull a destiny Year 1 -> 2 and have us start out with our old weapons but make them obsolete.
-
If they do that, there should be a prologue mission that involves the previous guardian killing Hive with a Zhalo Supercell and some dumb Ogre boss, killing Vex with a Telesto and some dumb Cyclopses, and finally the Guardian faces his/her final fate using the Nemesis Star against a battalion of Cabal and finally dying.

Bog down? Admittedly, I stopped reading there. Because that makes no sense from a resource perspective, I can't add up the rest. Because simple calculations of initial specs and distance are hard for newer processors and a more efficient code to figure out?

Traction bump
