A father-of-six has been forced to flee his home under police guard after he said he suffered ‘years of persecution’ for converting to Christianity.
Nissar Hussain, who converted from Islam 20 years ago, was hospitalised after one attack when two men, armed with a pick-axe, left him with a smashed kneecap.
Last week, he and his family left their home in Bradford, West Yorkshire, to a safe house.
Mr Hussain said: ‘My family are distraught and extremely traumatised to be leaving. But when your life is at stake there is no other choice.’
He added that the harassment and violence escalated after he appeared on a Channel 4 documentary about the mistreatment of Muslim converts.
He points the finger at sections of the Islamic community.
He said: ‘This extreme persecution by certain people in the Muslim community because we are converts has broken us as a family.’
At the time of the attack last year, Hussain said he and his family were being driven out of the city and he was making plans to leave.
This week he had started packing up his belongings when the police arrived on Thursday November 3.
Mr Hussain, who was a nurse before leaving work due to post-traumatic stress disorder, says his children, aged eight to 24, and wife would never see their friends again.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said hate crime would not be tolerated and officers had been working with the family.
He said: ‘Our priority has always been to work effectively with our partners to minimise the risk to Mr Hussain and ensure that we maximise opportunities to put control measures in place to safeguard him, his family and consider any wider impact upon the communities across West Yorkshire.
‘We are disappointed that Mr Hussain and his family have decided to leave Bradford, particularly as police and partners have been working together for some time to try and resolve the situation to the benefit of all parties concerned.’
The spokesman continued: ‘Police and partners would like to stress that there are a number of other people living in the Bradford district who have not experienced any issues based on their faith, conversion to another faith or choosing not to have a faith.
‘Under no circumstances will hate crime be tolerated.’

Idiot. Hate crimes against Christians aren't real.

Edited by Dog_Of_War_1138: 11/13/2016 4:10:50 AMSo, you're saying Christians are more tolerant? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/hate-crimes-muslims-since-911_us_57e00644e4b04a1497b59970

Perhaps should stop reading all this crap and isolated tales on the internet, the worse source for factual information. Just make sure you don't discriminate anyone IRL because they're different from you, for whatever reasons. You don't know something, you don't like something, research it, make up your mind on your own, get out of the safe bubble, explore the world, discover things. The US, UK, China, ... do not represent the whole world, just some land with arbitrary man-made boundaries. Earth is a small dot in the universe, getting along seems it should be priority one for the human race. Let's be good to each other, even if it's not popular.

Well if its the middle east i won't be surprised. >Bradford GOD DAMN IT!

This is typical of apostates

I wish safety for him and his family.

The police should follow up the complaints and take action. It should never get to the media as it gives the wrong impression. It just leads to more hate.
-
It always sucks when people behave badly towards each other. But it's strange to just post a news story for no reason, did you have some opinion on it?
-
...why is a story from the UK tagged with Australia... Hmm...
Also the Metro? C'mon that's scraping the bottom of the barrel. It's alright to read on break, but it's free for a reason.
Edited by Cozyman Cam: 11/13/2016 2:19:51 PMWhy would the department be disappointed in their leaving? Do they lack any sort of empathy for a man looking to do what is best to ensure safety for his family? He's decided law enforcement has not done enough to hold those criminals accountable for their actions. He doesn't have much choice since they're either unable to or unwilling to do more. It also seems as though the spokesman is doing a lot of PR damage control. It wouldn't be necessary if the department were both willing and able to do their job.

Bradford isn't a nice neighbourhood. Props to this guy for keeping on going though
The spokesman continued: ‘Police and partners would like to stress that there are a number of other people living in the Bradford district who have not experienced any issues based on their faith, conversion to another faith or choosing not to have a faith.
Gotta pick up on this; the way the 'spokesman' talks it is as though the number of people who haven't experienced issues is the exception rather than the rule. Curious that they didn't use what is normally used in these situations 'the vast majority' or something similar.

Wait is it just me or are all the comments from people who read it wrong what I understood is they converted to Christianity and weren't accepted by their fellow new Christian peers and forced to relocate because even though they now even accepted their religion. Where's the love from the Christians? I was raised Catholic and in pretty sure we were taught that that makes them one of us and a precious one at that for its an opportunity to teach. And hopefully be open minded enough to learn a bit about the faith he grew up learning to bridge the gaps and have one solid understanding of the Abraham descended religions
