A BIG thanks to a random encounter.

While I was on a random patrol on Mars a fellow guardian messaged me and asked if I'd join his raid team for WOTM. I told him I never played it and he didn't mind and taught me the mechanics on the fly. We completed the end boss and it truly wasn't difficult. We need more players like that in the community.

It's great to hear that you completed it with this group. Honestly though it's not as hard to find groups willing to accept new players as some make it out to be. You just need to be open and honest about it and be willing to communicate openly with your team. 1. There are a ton of great guides for every raid on Youtube. I recommend watching a couple of different ones for perspective and so you have at least a rudimentary understanding of mechanics and tactics, and what gear you should bring on your first attempt. 2. When you're ready to raid, be up front about your experience level. If you're using LFG, say you're a first timer but have an understanding of the mechanics and can communicate well. 3. COMMUNICATE!!!! - I cannot stress this one enough. When you don't understand something, ask questions. Ask your teammates for advice on tactics or what you can do differently if you're finding parts difficult. Put your ego aside and know that you're going to look like a total noob, and you should because you are one. That's fine we were all there once and if a team was willing to accept a first timer chances are they're used to it. 4. Own your mistakes when you make them, don't blame others, and above all be supportive of your team mates when they screw up because everyone does from time to time. If it's your fault a simple "my bad" will go a long way toward letting your team know you understand what you did wrong and will help avoid additional finger-pointing. Lastly, we shouldn't be so quick to judge those posting only for experienced players or players above a certain light level. People have different goals for their play-time, and though I've taken many new players through all of the raids, sometimes we're just looking to get it done quickly because our time to play is limited. If you catch me during the week I'm probably going to be on 1-2 hours in the evening after work and am looking for experienced groups. If you catch me on Saturday morning when I have a few hours I'm more than willing to help some new folks complete their first raid, and actually really enjoy doing it. Just because someone is posting for an experienced group or turns down a new player, doesn't automatically make them an elitist.
