Why have light advantage in ToO?

This is just an idea I thought of on the light advantage in ToO. I personally think if trials was all about who has the best skill there would be no light advantage. The reason I think this is because 3 lvl 370s that have made it up to 8 wins will get absolutely destroyed by 2 400s. The 370s take more damage and the 400s take less damage, how is that skill based. Sure it takes skill to be a 370 and win, but it definitely doesn't take as much skill to be the 400s. It's a walk in the park for them and they barely have to try. If it was removed it would become an even playing field and give the lower lights a chance and show their skill. I'm not saying a lvl 2 should destroy a lvl 380. The required light to get in would be 360 or 370 to prevent the extremely low lvls from getting in. Edit: Ok I'm starting to see where everybody is coming from now, but I'm going to leave this post up to see what other people think of the idea. And for everyone saying this is an "Excuse" or that I'm "complaining" I'm really not I honestly don't care that it's there.

  • Trials has absolutely NOTHING to do with skill, it's all about manipulation. Can you manipulate the code to cheat, can you kick the other player from the game, can you manipulate your connection so you don't take damage, can you manipulate your console so you can use a keyboard and mouse running macros, can you manipulate your credit card to pay a streamer to carry you, can you manipulate your light to benefit you? Trials is all about manipulation, it was never and will never be about skill.

    • But what happens when you face teams with the same exact light levels of your group? Then its as if there werent any light level advantages to begin with. But that isnt the case, people at low lights try to do trials anyway to gear up, then complain when they get smacked by a team 10 light levels higher, thats THEIR problem. Why put yourself at a disadvantage when theres light level advantages? Bungie added elimination to the game, if people dont want the level advantages, go play that. If you want to do trials, start grinding.

    • I never noticed too much of the light level advantage business come into it, even in Y2. Hell, I got fond memories of my guys at 330 getting steamrollered by some guys with Thorns Icebreakers and Gjallys. Consider that one. No, I don't know how we got steamrollered either. Despite this, it would be nice to see the playing field truly evened out into a true game of skill. Surely this is the overall point of Trials- endgame ultimate skill in PvP?

    • Why be a 340 and do trials to get gear when you can do anything else?

    • Its end game activity. Reserved for the people who have actually played through the game. It isnt hard to get to 390 rn. Even without the raid. No excuses.

    • That's a lie, last week my team got shredded from 360s and we were 390+ I don't know what was up with his version of "the waltz" but it was doing way more damage than intended, especially with your supposed light advantage

    • You are correct, no game mode with level advantages turned on can ever be considered a truly competitive mode. By "competitive" people mean "a game mode in which my hours of grinding lets me n00bstomp people who grind less" Has nothing to do with skill.

      • No light advantage != skill based. Nothing in Destiny is truly skill based. Closest you can get is private matches, but that is still with p2p networking.

        • Why are people crazy for light level. Finished the normal raid day one at 366 and I was the highest light. Finished hard on Friday cause no one would be on till then and I was only 385. I went flawless at 370 while everyone was above 380 after 6 wins. I stay at what ever light is comfortable and trials had always had light level on and no has been bothered.

          • My buddy is a 365.... he rips people's faces off with his palindrome because he can aim where I can not so i usually use a pulse :-D but yeah he's clutched many 1v3's by himself and weve been to the lighthouse plenty of times year 3. He doesn't worry about light level at all.

          • I mean I have seen people go flawless in year 3 already with way below max light...that is pretty skillfully done. Not me personally, still haven't went flawless. But some of my friends on XBL went flawless last week and they are 370ish.

          • Lol git gud. I went last week at 362 easily. 400vs370 is still a 4 shot mida 3 shot palindrome. 2 body longbow. 2 melees. It doesn't matter brah. Quit complaining.

            • So alot of people keep saying that the damage difference is "minimal" when it comes to the light level but thats the thing, its still a difference. I'm a 387 now for ToO but back when i was a 370 or so going against a 400, who i will say is just as equally skilled as me, we would both land all our shots but i would die one shot short of killing him everytime. Of course playing against 400's that can't aim increases my chances of winning that 1 on 1 but when you get into the final stretch of matches on Trials that one shot difference gets annoying because you know you could have won or at least traded in that fight when both players are hitting their mark. Now, I'm not demanding light level to be removed or anything but it's just something to keep in mind.

            • There are a lot of weapons that are stuck in Y1 with perfect rolls that out-power a lot of the Y2/3 weapons. If there was no LL advantage, there would be a weapon advantage.

Light advantage my a** I'm 400 and get killed by 360 with 2 bullets. And when i shoot them, almost no damage. Look at this video from last week Trials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS-butYdbp4 At 2:35 min he (light 288) body shots a player with 60% armor left and he kills him. I am 400 light and using the same Trials sniper like this streamer above. I body shot a player, which has 40% armor left and he doesn't die: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf0oII9Pazo So what light advantage? You mean CONNECTION advantage?

              • Endgame activity. If you're not even at the old light cap from before the update, that's your own fault. It's the easiest thing in the world to get to 390 plus. Pro tipp:
Run max armor if you're that low light. If you don't, once again: your fault.
• Because y1 weapons can get certain perks that arent currently available on y2/y3 weapons which would give a huge advantage to players that held on to said weapons. Ex. Matadors with kneepads, snipers with double down.

                • To be perfectly fair, the only way you can have truly skill-based Crucible would be to have set loadouts that are identical for every player, segregated teams (3 on 3 would wave one of each class per team, 6 on 6 would have 2 of each class per team), no light levels, and symmetrical maps. That would basically be cutting out most if what people enjoy about Destiny, which is the ability/loadout customization.

                • Went flaw first week as a 350. Pdx usually does 25 dmg to the head however it was doing 22 instead. This was only against max light players. What I'm saying is that light doesn't really matter. If u can hit ur shots ur still gonna get the kill
