Ash Part 1

So I have always had a love for the lore of Destiny. The lore itself is fantastic, but you have to give credit to the presentation. The Grimoire may not be a fan favorite, but i have always loved going online and reading all of the little stories that come with the Ghost Fragments. These little short narratives inspired to me create my own fan made Grimoire stories, this is the first of a few entries detailing the life of a mysterious Guardian known only as "The Ashen Guardian." Please enjoy and critique as you see fit. Stalagmites and stalactites flew past my vision as I was thrown through the air before finally striking the hard wall of stone. I glanced around the chamber, searching for my Ghost; I could feel my Light leaving me, slowly being snuffed out by the sheer power of the Darkness emanating from the Hive Wizard that was now advancing on my position. My brain told me to move, to get out of there but my body didn’t listen. I scanned my immediate surroundings, searching for the rifle that I had dropped just moments before. There it was, sitting on a boulder no fifteen feet away from me, but I wasn’t the only one who saw it. The Wizard, Viran, took the rifle in hand and crushed it with her horrendous Hive magic. I must admit, that may have dampened my spirits a tad; then, to my right, I heard a sound that both gave me hope, and made me more than a little nervous. Without thinking I turned and ran. This sound- I knew it was my Ghost, but…it didn’t sound right. I entered the chamber and my breath was taken away. The Darkness was suffocating, it took every little bit of willpower I had to keep my Light from fading away. I crept forward into the underground chamber, following the sound that worried me more and more the closer I got; it sounded… “Ghost?” I whispered, “Little Light? Are you well?” Out of the Darkness came a familiar voice, one that had been my only companion in the decades since my resurrection, but something was wrong. It spoke the same words…over and over, the same four words every time. “Don’t let it win.” I reached out, hoping to grasp the small, durable, metal shell; but that was not what I found. A blinding flash illuminated the whole tunnel system, allowing me to better see what was before me. I held my Ghost in my hand, but she was no longer my Ghost, the familiar metal shell now shining with an intensity that would blind even the strongest of Sunsinger. I looked down at my feet hoping to save my eyesight, and was astounded by what I saw. It was a Hand Cannon, the likes of which I had never seen, or felt, before. It must have been dropped here long ago by a poor Guardian hoping to put an end to this wretched Wizard. The real question wasn’t why this strange weapon was here, but for how long. I could feel the decades of Darkness that had been absorbed by this weapon; this must have been what my ghost had been studying just moments before, unaware of the copious amounts of Darkness that would immediately flood its body, ultimately killing it. At that, the Light vanished, the Darkness returned to suffocate me. The thing that had once been my Ghost crumbled and fell through my fingers and a sound from behind indicated that the flash had alerted Viran to my location. I reached down and took hold of the weapon, I felt my body fill with Darkness, but it would not overcome me; my Light would prevail. I took aim, pointing the large pistol directly at the glowing eyes in the Darkness, and pulled the trigger. Viran’s head exploded, the rest of her body dissolving and ungraciously falling to the floor. I took a deep breath, the Darkness was gone. I glanced down at the weapon; I could feel the Darkness coursing into my body even as I stood there. It was still coated with the remains of the Ghost that had been my closest friend through all of my travels, and I knew what I would call this weapon: Ash.
