How is Oryx dead?

The only way to kill a hive God is to use their own weapon against them, sword logic, that's how we killed Crota. At no point did we use Oryx's sword against him, so how is he dead?. And before you say "We were using Razelighter and the other swords made from his". You are correct, but at no point did those swords touch Oryx. Edit 1: thanks for all the feedback and I'm sorry about my wording. I thought sword logic was killing something with its own weapon, I misread and understand what it means now.

  • If I remember the books of sorrow correctly. The hive hierarchy is based on feeding off death. Crota would kill in the form of offerings to Oryx, Oryx would then offer those deaths to the worm god (think symbiotic relationship) inside of him in exchange for power or something like that. Oryx felt it when we killed Crota cause those offerings stopped and Crota was one of if not the biggest contributor. Oryx came to our solar system to kill the guardians over this. His ship was disabled by the Queen Mara Sov. We entered the ship and destroyed Oryx physical form because were bad ass like that, but in order to even reach and challenge Oryx we had to become ascendant hive by using what was left of the soul of Crota. So that put us at least on the same level as Crota. Which made us strong enough to destroy his physical form. This is all stated in the books of sorrow which you get from the calcified fragments so highly recommend you find them and read the grimoires. During the raid, we systematically killed the other beings (war priest, golgoroth, and Oryx Daughters) that gave Oryx offerings so that when we finally reach Oryx he's so starved that he's on the verge of death. He attempts to have his worm god feed on us directly from inside his chest but we make it back fire by shooting it with corrupted light (the bombs). While we mess Oryx up, it's the worm god inside him that finished him off. And if I'm not mistaken that worm god is inside the touch of malice. That's why Oryx is dead.

    • I thought his ships thrown room was his resurrection place and therefor since we killed him in the thrown room his only weakness he couldn't come back plus he is 10 times bigger then it now.

Because that's not how sword logic works. The super simplified version is you gain sword logic by killing anything at all in any way. Because you kill them yo must have at least as much power according to sword logic as them. The reason we needed an Ascendent sword to kill Crota is because swords are unique in that they are capable of having their own power independent of the weirder. Since we didn't have enough of our own to challenge Crota we borrowed some by using an ancient and powerful sword to give us enough to make a contest of it. Now by the time we fight Oryx in Kings Fall we have killed thousands of lesser Hive, Crota, his entire Court, his daughters, Golgoroth, and his physical manifestation. As a result we have sword logic from all of them. At the same time Oryx has so much Sword Logic due to his multi-billion year crusade that he requires a tithe to sustain his worm. By denying his tithe and de lactating the corrupted light we deny him the sustenance he needs to feed his worm. Without anything else to sustain it, the worm is forced to devour Oryx instead.

Technically he is not dead. If you read the grimoire the whole reason we have the touch of malice is due to the fact that oryx had created instructions for whosoever may kill him to create a weapon from his body, essence, and will. This was so that his killer could become him and he could become his killer and live on forever in the weapon. So again, he's not dead, his will lives on in the touch of malice. Edit: Just FYI there is also a grimoire card in which Toland calls us bumbling fools, saying that we have killed the king and left no one to replace him. There must be a 'strongest one', that is the nature of spaces like oryx's dreadnought. So apparently we made a huge mistake that hasn't bit us in the ass yet.

          • You don't have to use their weapons. You can kill them normally but for a permanent death you have to kill them in their own thrown room.

            • We wiped out his son, his daughters, his Court, his Warpriest, and his cellar-keeper (Golgoroth). The Corrupted Light we detonated was literally the only thing standing between him and his worm's hunger. By denying him this tithe, this Light, his worm consumed him

We didn't kill him in the traditional shoot the boss to death way. We denied his worm offerings of light by purifying and detonating corrupted light that Ogres were feeding to Oryx (those weren't bombs that exploded in Oryx's face.) We happened to just be in the area and were a bigger priority. That's why the Ogres attacked us. Anyway, for every light we detonated, his worm was denied an offering. His worm took literal bites out of Oryx's insides. After 16 denied offerings, Oryx was so weak we were able to finish the job inside of his throne world...

                • Oryx is special though. If you've read the Grimoire, you know why. (S)he already is on the edge of his life when we fight him, due to his age, history and drained stength. Then we come and break his physical and mental bodies, wheras we find a way to enter a different realm, only to kill his soul as well. The way we kill him is simply by poisoning. We drown him with our light and break him. You can explain it in two different ways as well. First off, the Harry Potter way. You know the Shadows of Oryx? They're like horcruxes. Only when all shadows are removed, you can kill the true Oryx. Secondly, imagine Oryx being a glass of blood. Our Light to him is comparable to venom from a snake. The clotting kind. Even a very small dose can solidify the entire glass.

                • Sword Logic is not killing something with its own weapon. Sword Logic is the idea that killing others makes you stronger, and that only the most powerful deserve to exist. It is a philosophy. You kill a Hive god by killing him or her in the Ascendant Realm (their throne world). Oryx placed his throne world deep in the Dreadnaught. That is where we face and kill him in the end of the raid. Since we killed him in his throne world, he is truly dead. Take an hour or two to read through the books of sorrow. They explain all of this, and they are an EXCELLENT read.
