Spinmetal needs a new, secondary purpose

Look, I get it, each planet has a special item to farm in which it can be used in turn to power up items. In the case of Saturn, wormspores can also usually be traded to Eris Morn (not all weeks, but a lot of weeks) for faction points. Also on Saturn, Hadium Flakes can be used for working toward the ability to increase the King's Raid drops OR for the weeks Eris Morn takes that item for faction. (Hadium flakes, to my knowledge, do not help power weapons/armor up.) Now that Rise of Iron is out, and a lot of action is on the Cosmodrome, spinmetal collection (the specialty item of the Cosmodrome) is able to be had at a higher rate. In fact, I have at least seven maxed stacks in my vault and I am working on an eighth. There clearly is a disproportionate balance here. I have quit picking them up as there is no incentive. All they do is power up spot weapons that happen to use it and I may use 30 max to do that. Why collect what I don't need? I only acquire them now either by accident or because they're a reward for a bounty or chest. So does Bungie have any plans to give spinmetal a new purpose? Trade them in for some kind of rank with someone in the tower or ROI area? Be able to sell them (and its sister items) to a new NPC for in-game currency and then buy other items like heavy ammo synths or something from other NPCs? Consumable for some short-term ability/power? Anything at all? I just feel there is something worthwhile that can be done, but yet the items -- especially spinmetal's newfound overabundance -- remain largely dormant and useless in my vault. And this is a lost opportunity for the game if you ask me, even if only for spinmetal while leaving the others untouched.
