I had an issue where me & my brother use the same router, but different consoles (destiny servers read both consoles as one console) so, we can't play together, we can't even get into one party together, and when we do it kicks us out of destiny.. ( IP Issue )
Solution:
You need to set up the IP manually inside the network settings and give each console a different IP address..
For example,
I set my console as 192.168.0.20
And the other console as 192.168.0.30
And it worked perfectly ..
The other options you can get it from your internet provider
The default gateway is your router's IP usually it is
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
The subnet mask usually is
255.255.255.0
The dns you need to get it from the router or the internet provider..
The last two digits of the IP can be changed until 254 .. so just get a unique one and it will work perfectly !!

i had this and fixed it very easily, so go to the tower both of you, once there both of you tap the xbox button, go to quit game, both quit then both re-sign back in and choose character, all this needs to be done at the same time, one or both of you will then see a "weasel error notification on screen, dismiss go to orbit join each others fireteam,,,,, enjoy xxxxx

You need a router with upnp settings. I had trouble connecting 3 Xbox ones to my home network until I bought Netduma gaming router. Before one console would be open nat and the other two would be strict. Now all three consoles are open nat with no issues. I imagine any router with good upnp settings would work.

From an networking standpoint... why would manually assigning an IP address to each console be any different than a dynamically assigned IP address via DHCP?

I game with my son and other than the random boot to the title screen we play together just fine

I wish I could try this but have no idea how to do any of that...

you can also set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 which is googles DNS server and that will work just fine.
