Strength of the Pack S2 Ch. 14: Into the Void

"Alan, if you don't know what you're doing, Voidwalking can be deadly. But I believe it is what will have to be done..." Ikora continued to look over me. "So, I have to go back to the Void?" I asked. "Theoretically, yes. But this isn't a well known case..." The Speaker held his hands together in front of him. "So, I'm a guinea pig?" I asked. "This isn't an easy solution to fix Alan. It's difficult to seperate Light from Light," the Speaker tried to consul me, but it wasn't working. "Mmhm... Well, what if I worked with it, the Void... Let it be apart of me?..." "That would take years of constant training and potential risks that I nor you will take Alan!" The Speaker demanded. "So... what are my options?" I asked as I grew increasingly concerned. The Speaker paused and thought for a moment. "As it stands... not very many. There is the entering the Void again but that requires effort and to do so could potentially make it worse. Then there is removal, but I would care not to step near that..." "Which one gives me a better chance to walk away... Alive?" I asked. "I am not sure... All of these have risks involved," the Speaker shook his head. I looked around, trying to think of something better. I dropped my head in frustration. "What do I need to do?" "All I can say is this needs to be dealt with as soon as it can... Otherwise measures will be taken," the Speaker's voice raised in pitch slightly. "Geez Speaker, sounds a little harsh don'tcha think?" Cayde chimes in. "With all that has been going on recently, I will not tolerate anything more happening. Not if I have any say in it," the Speaker's voice seemed to turn icy cold. "How does one Voidwalk?" I asked as I concentrated on the Void energy in me, forming orbs of purple-black Light in my hands. "Blinking would be the easiest way," the Speaker said, his normal voice returning. "However Hunters are incapable of that. The closest thing would be a Shadestep." "Shadestep? So, what, pass through the Void for a split second and hope the Void leaves me rather than get worse?" I asked, questioning what had to have been a spur of the moment idea. "Pretty much..." Cayde leaned back in his chair slightly. "If it leaves good, if not, it's stuck to ya." "And then, more drastic measures have to be taken..." The Speaker said, looking at me. "This seems... well thought out..." I looked around the hall, then headed over to the Crucible representative, Lord Shaxx. I turned around, ran back to the Vanguard and Shadestepped! As I came out of the roll, I banged my head against the table edge and fell to the ground, "Did it work?..." I groaned as I stared at the ceiling. Cayde gave a single, loud clap. The Speaker nodded towards Ikora, "Check." I could feel Solar Light burning in me again, but I could also feel the chill of Void, too. "I don't think... I don't think it worked," I said as I sat up and rubbed my head. "No, it didn't. Void is still in you... In fact, I think it only agitated it," Ikora pulled me to my feet. The Speaker nodded and fell quiet. "Ow! I think I'm bleeding," I whispered to myself as I kept reaching for my skull. "What now? Better yet, why don't I just embrace this rather than fight it? What harm could come from that?" "No!" The Speaker's voice raised slightly in anger, "I will not allow that!" Void fire simmered around my gun hand. I snarled slightly then closed my fist. "Okay, Speaker... What do you say?" The Speaker glanced down to me, "I said I will not allow it. This is a potential threat to the City and the Tower, and it must be dealt with as soon as possible. This for everyone's benefit, including your own, Alan." "You make it sound like an epidemic plague!" I said, raising my voice. "It's not like I touch you and you're infected! Maybe, the problem is I try to fight it instead of..." I raised my hand, not realizing I had spawned a Void flaming gun. "I am not taking that risk. You got this power from a Taken adversary and I will not have you continue to have this!" The Speaker's concerns seemed irrational to me. I looked at the beautiful weapon in my hand, "Someone once told me discovery requires experimentation... I think I should take it out for a spin," power flowed through me as I morphed the gun into a bow. "I forbid it!" The Speaker seemed angered. "Try and stop me!..." I mocked. I thought about what I just said. That wasn't me. "Alan?" Cayde asked as he, Zavala, and Ikora tensed up. The Speaker stopped for a moment. He made a small gesture with his hand-- Zavala quietly walked around the table-- and calmed his voice. "Alan... Remain calm..." He began to back away slowly. "Calm?" I made a sadistic laugh. "Calm is what powers me, now," I returned the bow to a deadly gun. I felt Zavala wrap his arms around me. "You can't contain the power of the universe!" I yelled as I frantically tried to escape. Void and Solar fire engulfed me as I fought back. "Stop him!" The Speaker quickly backs up and throws a switch on a wall, activating an alarm. I fired the void cannon in quick succession, blasting holes in the walls. "My power only strengthens! You can only slow the inevitable!" Zavala quickly spawns a shield infront of him and the bullets ping off. "Shaxx!" He yelled. Shaxx, hiding behind his desk extended his arm. Arcite passed him a scout rifle, and grabs a weapon as well. Shaxx popped up occasionally and fired off a round. A bullet struck my chest. I lurched in pain, then looked to where the shot came from. I raised my weapon, but three more bullets hit me. "Ow! You f***ers!" I held my gut, raised the gun one more time... then collapsed to the ground. I saw the gun hit the ground beside my head and dissipate. I felt my eyes roll to the back of my head, and I was out.
