Wrath of the Machine Normal: Thoughts

I was hyped for King's Fall, a new raid hopefully better than CE... I was right. However, as time went on, King's Fall got less and less fun. The introduction of heroic mode and the Golgoroth challenge just made KF seem.... tedious. That is not what Destiny endgame PvE should be, it should be challenging, but fun... That is Wrath of the Machine. WotM is -blam!-ing awesome. A Fallen raid, finally. SIVA was already cool to me, so this just enhanced my raid experience. The entrance of the raid was short and fun. The jumping puzzles were not too long or too steep. The occasional falling platform did get the jump on me a couple of times not gonna lie. Vosik's fight is very crowded, as you have to deal with monitors, captains, ads, siva balls, and Vosik all at the same time, but with the right team it is very satisfying to pummel him into dust. The Siege Engine is by far the most interesting encounter. The music is akin to the Halo 2 OST and the amount of Dregs reminds me a little of the Flood. The fact that you get to ride the Death Zamboni/Siege Engine makes it worthwhile for me... but the engineer, Meksis, should jump off the wall for being an asshole. The Server Farm has a rather creepy atmosphere... nothing more needs to be said once you hear the music. Aksis, Archon Prime is probably the second best raid boss in my opinion. The first phase is when his creepy little midget half body is connected to a bunch of SIVA tubes. You don't really fight him though, instead, you destroy SIVA cores to prevent him from wiping you. Once they are all gone, shit gets real. He attaches himself to some spider-like legs and now shoots at you with a gun he pulled out of his ass.... if he had one. Both phase 1 and 2 involve killing Scorch, Shock, and Null captains in order to kill their respective Servitors, like the Light-Eater Ogre and Light-Eater Knight combo. The Servitors drop balls so you can take down Aksis's shield. Aksis will be temporarily destabilized, allowing someone with a new buff called "Empowerment" to dunk on his back. This will stun him so you can wreck the shit out of him. My absolute favorite parts of this fight are the music and the final attempt to wipe the entire team. Once he gets to low health he will initiate a Critical Density of SIVA. You have 20 seconds (I think) to -blam!- him up. One of the many things introduced in Wrath of the Machine was the monitor system. This placed monitors in different locations throughout the raid, getting all of them unlocks a secret chest beneath Aksis. After the grueling task of using hexidecimal shit to open the giant pyramid to get the final monitor, I got the chest and the Exotic Weapon quest. The quest was long-ish and rather interesting. The raid Exotic is a great reward for all that work, though. This goes into my final part: loot. The weapons are normal weapons with SIVA on them. So far I only have the auto rifle and fusion rifle, and both are really good. They do extra damage to Fallen and I believe each have their own permanent perk. The armor is rather different from previous designs and for the first time since Vault of Glass, the raid armor looks awesome for all three classes. Each piece of gear has a special perk that ties into the raid, for example; the boots give you a speed boost while holding a cannon and the chest gives you a damage resistance when using the SIVA ball. Enjoy, because hard mode will have them in black. Finally, the raid exotic itself... Outbreak Prime. Outbreak Prime has two exotic perks that work at the same time. It can spawn SIVA nanites through precision kills (once charged) and repeated damage to an enemy. Not only that, but it is in the Hawksaw archetype, which means it is at least decent in Crucible. I have yet to test it out but... I did really good with Hawksaw so I am confident in Outbreak Prime. Oh yeah, it glows red, too. It is worth getting this exotic as it is what the Vex Mythoclast should have been, strong in both types without being OP or shit. That about wraps it up for my thoughts on normal mode Wrath of the Machine. Now, if you haven't done it yet, go out there and kick some Devil Splicer ass.
