Is Rasputin controlled by SIVA?

Rasputin obviously did everything in his power to stop the iron lords from getting SIVA. He even takes control of it to stop them. It appears he did nothing when the fallen came for it or when your player goes to blow up the replicator. Even Saladin says in a bit of dialogue from the final mission that Rasputin had activated all his defenses to stop the iron lords. However seemingly he couldn't care less when the fallen or your player came for it. I realize this may be speculation but even Saladin said
The Vanguard still believe Rasputin to be just a warmind. He hasn't been that for a very long time.
My theory is that Rasputin is being controlled by SIVA. Or at least he has been changed drastically by it. One moment he's seen helping guardians an the other he is killing them and scattering their bodies across the cosmo. It's almost as if he's fighting for control of himself... from SIVA?

  • I always thought when he said Rasputin was no longer a warmind it meant he overcame his directive. He does things like aelf preservation instead of human preservation

  • Why do I get the feeling that in few years we would get a fallen theme raid once more in which rasputin will be boss in that raid. Just like how oryx was

  • Of course Rasputin was fighting the Iron Lords! It was trying to prevent them from getting control of SIVA. It knew that SIVA wouldn't be able to be tamed and would be destructive in anyone's hands. Rasputin failed, unfortunately. The fallen taking control of SIVA, however, is a bit odd to me, though. I have a few theories (like how Rasputin might have thought that with the "containment" of SIVA meant the neutralization of SIVA, and it didn't foresee fallen getting involved) , but all in all, Rasputin wouldn't have been under the control of SIVA. It makes much more sense that it (being a warmind) was trying to prevent possible disaster on Earth! Isn't it tasked with guarding Earth?

      • I haven't read all of the new grimoire cards so I may not be representative of canon... But Rasputin is a surviving warmind... One of the warminds... As in there was more than one of them. Probably each in it's own way unique.. Look at Rasputin's emblem, then look at Siva's.... Similar, but different... I believe that Siva was a corrupted warmind which was focused on the use and manufacture of nanoparticulate defenses and offenses.. Rasputin didn't want Iron Lords breaking into Siva anymore than it wanted The Traveler to run away again when the darkness arrived... Because Siva is insane. It would, and did, use the Iron Lords to it's own advantage. Rasputin deployed it's frames... The machines now known as Exos, to defend Siva... Because if Siva was released, it would be a threat to him, as well as all that lives on earth... Of course Rasputin could care about anything aside from him self. You notice the vex aren't around... Siva is too much of a threat even for them...

        • I think SIVA is, or at least was controlled by Rasputin. I see SIVA as a technology, possibly even organic in nature, but either way it needs to be controlled by something somewhere along the line. Whether Rasputin has direct control, or whether he hacked it is unclear. The overall threat of Rasputin is also unclear. We just don't have enough information. There's still the looming question of whether or not The Traveler is evil. Rasputin very well could have stopped it's exodus because he knew it'd lead to our destruction. We also have no idea why the Iron Lords entered into Rasputin's bunker to begin with. It may not have been with the best intentions. The whole "he hasn't been that for a long time," has me wondering if Rasputin has taken some form of physical shape though.

        • Rasputin took control of SIVA to protect himself Rasputin programmed SIVA to kill or scare away guardians/iron lords The iron lords locked SIVA in a vault. Fallen opened fault SIVA infected fallen. Fallen and SIVA want to kill or scare away guardians/iron lords. Rasputin doesn't have a problem with this (enemy of enemy is my friend) Rasputin doesn't change the directive of SIVA because SIVA and fallen are attacking guardians.

I was browsing grimoire. I believe the new Rasputin card mentions him activating siva against the iron lords I don't see siva as a virus. I see it as benign used like a virus. By Rasputin

          • He tried to stop the IL from getting to SIVA. Probably took everything it had the one time leaving it unable or ill equipped to handle the fallen in their numbers... Or maybe Rasputin knew his favorite little guardian would be able to save the day.

          • Whatever's up with Rasputin, he's definitely one of the biggest wild cards in the desk. The Hive want to destroy him, the Fallen want to control him, Eris and Saladin both seem to know a lot about him. And Zavala has him on his list of things that could obliterate humanity once and for all, but knows the warmind is essential for us to restore the Golden Age. Four missions and a strike have been about him. We may not know whose side he's on, but he's likely very important one way or another.

          • My theory is that Siva was the weapon that Rasputin overridden and used it to weaken the traveller causing it to stay.

          • Possibly. There's a warlock bond that shows a Rasputin logo the slowly fades to a SIVA logo. SIVA reminds me of a machine version of the flood. Rasputin probably is self aware now and when SIVA got to him or he used it, SIVA may have become self aware. From there it probably turned Rasputin into a dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde.

          • There is clearly more to old ras then meets the eye. After what lord salad said I'm wondering if ras is really an AI war mind, or if he may actually be a person who has their mind transferred into the warmind computer.

Rasputin , I think , has become a form of Cyberdine. An self aware AI that sees it's survival as more important than the survival of it's creators , even if it means abandoning them or killing them outright. Rasputin sees any trespass on it's territory as an act of war and reacts accordingly. However we don't know what the reset at the collapse and the subsequent hive and fallen attacks have done to it , or what our actions when trying to help have actually caused. Notice when we went down to stop the hive , they didn't actually inhabit the area (other than Omnigul) until we investigate the security computer. Who knows what ghost did inside the console?

SIVA is but when of many weapons in Rasputin's arsenal. The ghost fragment "Rasputin 6" shows using SIVA was a very intentional move on his part after the Iron Lords beaches his other defenses. It is a tool, but one the Devil Splicers have stolen. The reason he seems to random with what he does is because he isn't necessarily on our side. He's on his own side and has been since the collapse. That means he's fighting his own war, and while he'll use our aid if he needs it (Omnigul, Oryx, SABER) he'll protect what is his if we start to prod (using SIVA on the Iron Lords and killing Zavala's contact team).

I don't think he's being controlled. He knows very well the dangers of SIVA, which is why he pulled out all the stops to keep the Iron Lords from getting and using it. Which would also explain why he didn't try the same thing when the Fallen went after SIVA: He couldn't. But then again, he didn't have to now that Guardians are a factor in his plan.

                  • No, Siva requires a mind to control it. This was stated by Bungie during the winter Cosmodrome stream. Rasputin was that mind controlling Siva when the Iron Lords were killed.
SIVA use authorized. Self-destructs disengaged. Security codes reset. All defenses activated. Frames activated. REPLICATE. ELIMINATE. IMMUNIZE.
In old Russia 4 he instructs a ship's submind to take Siva into deep space, the submind exerts control over his cargo and also states they have no will.

                  • Rasputin is responsible for the collapse, which was necessary apparently, leaving only the last city. I dunno if killing billions is a good thing.

                    • Rasputin is no longer a protector of humanity. He is the protector of himself. And he will use any means to ensure his own survival. Something like SIVA is a weapon of his, a weapon he used on the iron lords.
