Chapter 1: Voidwalker

Hey everyone, thank for clicking on this story I created. Now if you're wondering what this is about the I'll tell you. This is a story about the younger generations of Guardians, and the struggles they face fighting the forces of Darkness. It's more or less a coming-of-age story with a Destiny twist, so enjoy and leave what you think in the comments below! "What does it mean to be a Warlock? Power... only Warlocks understand true power..." -Ikora Rey, Warlock Vanguard "I bet they had to drag him out of the library" a Hunter sneered. I immediately snapped back into reality, losing my train of thought. "Oh boy, I think he is having one of his 'visions' again" another Hunter jeered back. "Honestly, I don't understand why they let glorified-librarians out in the field. They'd be better off being fodder for Hive!" I clenched my fist in anger, my blood starting to boil. They continued their conversation, sitting atop a snow-covered boulder. There are two different types of Hunters in this world, the efficient, accurate, and most importantly silent Hunters. And their are these guys, the ones that won't shut up until someone acknowledges their existence. "What did I tell you two about useless banter?" our field Commander said. The two immediately stood up, "Commander, Sir! I didn't see you there!" the Hunter exclaimed. "Shut up, and await for further instruction" the hulking Titan said. "YES SIR!" the Hunters squeaked. This was our first real mission out in the Cosmodrome, however this was not a combat operation. "Commander, what exactly are we doing here out in this freezing cold weather?" a female Titan asked. The Commander put his hands behind his back, and stood in a firm posture. "The Operation here, Cadet is to gather data on an unknown power-fluctuation in this sector of the Cosmodrome" he says. "Once we find the site, my Ghost will record any and all data, get your Sparrows ready. We're moving out!" I sling my rifle over my shoulder and inspect it. It wasn't anything special, it was just a standard-issue Auto-Rifle. Each of us was given a weapon of our choosing, the Gunsmith, Banshee-44 made sure all of them worked perfectly, in-case if we are put in a situation where we have to use them. Suddenly, a rush of cold wind brushes over me, I let out a violent shiver. "Forget to wear another coat, Warlock?" the Hunter joked, "That's it..." I think. I grab a bundle of snow and threw it at him, it was a direct hit to his head causing him to fall backwards. "Was that accurate enough for you, Hunter?" I jeer, "OH, NOW YOU'RE PUSHING YOUR LUCK!" the other Hunter yells. He walks towards me, but the female Titan stops him. "You three are embarrassments to us Guardians... grow up" she said coldly. She walks away, going down the hill to prepare her Sparrow for deployment. The Hunter helps his friend up, the other one wipes his helmets visor off, they both look at me. They don't say anything, and continue down the hill with the rest of the team. I think back on what the Titan said, and I came to the conclusion that she was right. I can't let others bother me and affect my actions, doing that would not help me in anyway. I follow suit and go down the hill where we were waiting out until dawn. I quickly catch up with the Titan, and call out to her. "Hey!" I exclaim, she slowly turns around to face me. "What" she carelessly says, I hold out my hand. "I didn't get your name" I say. By her body language, I can tell she is surprised by my act of good will. She removes her helmet, and reveals a surprising visage. Brilliant and smooth violet hair, bright blue eyes, and... blue skin? I come to the realization of what she is, "An Awoken?" I blurt out. Shouldn't of said that, she gives me a weird stare. "Never seen an Awoken before?" she giggles, "No, no, no, just was surprised" I nervously say. "Oh, I guess I should remove my helmet as well..." I grasp my helm and twist it off. Long black hair, brown eyes, light skin, there's nothing special about how I look. "A Human?" she says, I let out a chuckle. "Never seen a Human before?" I jeer, "No, just surprised" she replies. We both laugh, but our moment ends. "Are you two done?" the Commander sighs, we both quickly put on our helmets, "By the way" she says, "I'm Izana" she holds her hand out. "I'm Josh" I say, I shake her hand. "Get ready! We're moving out!" the Commander yells. I mount my parked Sparrow, I activate the navigation systems, and warm up the engine. The thruster roars to life, fire and sparks fly. The Stabilizers activate, lifting the Sparrow off the ground. Vzwooooom! We're off to the mission site, taking the lightning-fast Vehicles. We trained for years, months of grueling combat training in the Crucible, Virtual-Space Training with Amanda Holiday, hours and hours of lectures about the history of our enemies. Lord Shaxx is no joke, the man can kill a 800-pound Cabal with his bare-fists. I had the best combat-rating in our class, which is weird for a Warlock, those Hunters following closely behind me. That Awoken, or, Izana had the best combat-rating out of all the classes. When it came to academics, I passed sure, but I wasn't the super-genius people have become to expect of the Warlocks. I hate that about being a Scholar, sometimes I wish I was a Titan, no worries about how smart you are, just kill everything that threatens the City. I go back to the time I had a "talk" with my teacher, Ikora Rey. "You need to hone your light, if you ever want to become a Guardian" I always asked her so many questions, how do you cast a Stormtrance? How do you fire a Nova-Bomb? How do you activate your inner-radiance? I always wanted to know what I would become, a Voidwalker, a Sunsinger, or Stormcaller. She always gave me that answer, that I needed to hone my light. I never figured out what she meant, I don't think I ever will. I may become a drop-out and live out my life as a normal citizen. BOOM! CRASH! FWOOM! The path ahead erupts into explosions, "SQUAD! DISPERSE!!!" The Commander bellows. I quickly steer my Sparrow off the path and l lose balance. The turn was too quick that it caused me to lose control, I instinctively jump off. I managed to land in a soft pile of snow, which absorbed most of the shock of my fall. Crunch, Crunch, Crunch, the sound of footsteps coming towards me. I assume it's the Commander. I sprawl out of the pile of snow, and I look around to get my baring. I stand up, but a shadow cast over me. I turn around, and I'm haunted by what is in front of me. It's about 4 feet taller than me, clothed in a red cloack, four arms and eyes, and oh, god... that smell. The ones that made London burn... The House of Devils... Fallen. My fear quickly turns to rage... I prepare myself for the worst. %@119.##21%%3.00-@1. [TRANSMISSION CORRUPTED] [TO BE CONTINUED]
