An Exotic Story: Gjallarhorn

For those of you who care I apologize for the long delay between stories, if you don't then here's a story... Read, discuss let me know what you think. Most everyone knows the power of the Gjallarhorn and how with it the heroes of humanity, the Guardians, were able to push back the forces of the Darkness countless times before the coming of Oryx. Though fewer know that just like the story of the Guardians which begins with the fall of the Traveler and humanity’s entrance into the Collapse, so too does the story of the Gjallarhorn. The Traveler was the champion of humanity for many years after it was discovered on Mars. It made the people of Earth more than they ever could have become on their own. With its gifts of longer life and increased mental ability, major scientific advances were made that transformed humanity’s view of the universe. These advances included the creation of the Exos, mechanical constructs that equaled their creators so well that it is still debated whether or not there is a distinct difference between these men of metal and the organic men that made them. As well as the development of what would be known as the Warminds, artificial intelligences that could oversee the functions and defenses of the entire solar system. Including the one named Rasputin who is still great enough to hinder the Vex and their planet sized computational engines. The Traveler gave humanity, who had suffered through centuries of war, famine, and plagues, hope that life could and would be better. That their existence in the world did not have to be defined by trouble and suffering instead they could become something greater than anyone who had ever lived could have imagined. Sadly this great hope would not last nearly long enough. As soon the Darkness came and did battle with our great champion and defender. The Traveler fell, and with it so did humanity. Knowing that it had failed, the Traveler repurposed parts of its own dying body into what we know as Ghosts. These Ghosts were charged with one singular purpose and that was to find humans, and the children of that race, the Exos and the Awoken, that like the Traveler could bring a broken and suffering people hope that the evils of the world could be broken and pushed back. Like the Traveler, these great people had also fallen and were awaiting the power to get back up and destroy the Darkness. The Ghost, fragments of a dying hero, found the fallen members of the Travelers chosen people and reformed these broken remnants of humanity into something more than they could have ever been before, and they rose again as what we all know today as the Guardians. The Guardians wielded the power of the Traveler itself in fantastic ways that gave them the strength to safe guard the hopeless and broken people of the Earth from the evil forces that the Darkness had brought with it in its terrible wake of destruction. These Guardians of the Traveler’s chosen did more than simply ensure that their people survived, they inspired them to rebuild and to become great again. Under the comforting protection of the risen Guardians the people that the Traveler had died for found hope again, and with this hope, began to accomplish great things. On Earth a great city was built under the damaged hulk of the Traveler, and in this, the Last City, the people were safe from the Darkness and the hordes of hostile aliens that sought to take all that humanity had done. The people of the City came to believe that they were greater than the forces that sought to destroy them and that maybe one day they could rise again to reclaim their former glory, from the time before the Darkness . Until the Fallen, a race of alien pillagers, began to assault the City in an attempt to claim the Traveler as their own, as they had once many years ago. There were many battles fought for the safety of the City, but the greatest and last of these battles was the Battle of Twilight Gap. In the battle of Twilight Gap, much of the outer region of the Last City was destroyed, and hundreds of Guardians fell for the last time, as they gave the most that they could to save the City. In the end, the Guardians led by heroes such as Lord Shax managed to push the Fallen back and scatter their forces. While this was indeed a victory for the City, it came at great cost to the Guardians that fought for it. And so a memorial was built to commemorate those that were lost in the battle but also to mark that the City had entered into a new chapter in its history. In this new era the Last City would push back against the Darkness and reclaim what it had lost, instead of cowering behind strong walls and the body of the Traveler. This memorial was built to represent the guardians that fell to give the City this new hope of victory, and so to commemorate these great warriors a weapon was made in their image. The armor of the fallen Guardians was reclaimed and then given new purpose, as they were rebuilt into a set of powerful rocket launchers and given to those who had survived the battle of Twilight Gap. These rocket launchers were designed to be just as glorious as the guardians that they stood for, and so they were covered in the angelic wings and the heads of wolves to show how the Guardians were fierce and united like a singular pack. The image and power of this weapon was to be particularly emblematic of both the Iron Lords and the Iron Wolves, great heroes among the Guardians who had fallen to protect the Last City. Something that was to represent the power of the Guardians could not just look impressive. It also had to carry the same awe inspiring power that each and every lost Guardian had brought to bear against the armies of the Darkness. And so these great weapons utilize some the best technology that the City could acquire. The rockets that are fired by these weapons are like the wolves that were chosen to represent the Guardians themselves. They hunt their targets aggressively and unleash there destructive power simply by being near their enemies, instead of needing direct contact, and then in addition to the fury of the rocket’s initial explosion a pack of “wolves” emerge from the blast to tear apart anything that was left to stand against the Guardians. This great monument would also have to be named, but not just any name would do for a weapon that was meant to be equal to the Guardians who wielded godlike powers in the defense of the Light and the City. The weapon was given the name of Odin’s horn, the king of the norse gods of ancient men, because it would triumphantly sound the resurgence of humanity against the powers of that assailed them and so it was named the Gjallarhorn. As the Traveler had fallen and given us new hope in the form of Guardians shaped in its image of sacrifice and renewal, humanity gave its guardians new hope in the form of a guardian for them that was shaped in the image of the guardians themselves. And so the Guardians began to push the Darkness ever further back, as each Guardian that fought with the Gjallarhorn stood with the power of two. With the power of the Gjallarhorn, the Guardians were able to destroy one of the very sources of the Vex power, the dark heart of the Black Garden, as well as put a stop to the mysterious work of the Vex in the Vault of Glass, with the had fought defeat of Atheon. Then the Guardians destroyed one of the gods of the Hive that had slain an army of Guardians on the moon years before. Then the lord of the of the Hive came to destroy the Guardians himself, and the Gjallarhorn for all of its power, all of its fury, and all its might was not enough to destroy Oryx and his army of Taken monstrosities. And so the Gjallarhorn became a memorial not just to lost Guardians, but also to a time of hope for the City when it looked like the Darkness could be pushed back and that victory was so far out of reach. Though now Oryx has been defeated and the Guardians begin to hope again and like all Guardians, the Gjallarhorn will not stay down for long and will rise again to battle the forces that seek to destroy the City when it is needed, and then the Guardians will carry with them a guardian for themselves but this time it will stand more even more that has been lost.
