Best Modem/Router Setup for XBox One?

First off, I know this isn't the right place for this, but nobody answers in other forums, so.... Looking at the Netgear Nighthawk for the Router and SBG6190 for a modem. My current speeds are around 180mbps down, 30mbps up. But Destiny still dies on me and Xbox still shows strict NAT after playing with port forwarding til my head hurts, and I'm a Network Engineer!! I know my modem is old and the combo I mentioned above seems like a popular one. Any advice guys?? What setups work best for you? Let me know! • I've tried it all with 2 separate Xbox Ones and I continued to have disconnects. I traded my last Xbox One in for a PS4 and never had issues like that again. I read later that it could've been combined issues with my ISP and Xbox Microsoft servers. I have Comcast. All I truly know is that once I made a switch to PS4 I could finally play online without issue. Good luck! Watch out for the forum police!

    • Turn off auto updates on the Xbox one. When it first came out, the console was always resetting to strict NAT settings when it was powered down. All I did was turn off auto updates, clear the cache, and hard reset system. That being said, I have a good network setup(Comcast helped me) great speed, no packet loss, and very low latency and me send my son still can't play destiny together 99% of the time. I still deal with, at times, levels of cheat lag so basin crucible that I want to pull my hair out. I can't help you with your network. I can reasonably say that ,oat of our connection problems are on Bungie's end.

    • The 6190 still has issues with certain providers for some reason. Seems like it's 50/50, as to it accepting the boot file when it's pushed to it. At least last time I checked on it.

Update: I hooked up the 6190 and a Nighthawk XPS router. All is running smooth after playing with QoS settings and port forwarding. I have TWC and the 6190 is working great! 224mbps download, 24mbps upload. I pay for 200mbps so I'm happy!

        • Zoom 5341-J Modem (8x4 channels) Asus RT-AC66 (AC-1750 class router) PS4 and PS3, among other devices. Only a 15/1 bandwidth plan from TWC, but it actually clocks in about 17.5/1.2. Only offering up to 50Mb plans in my area now with the Charter/Spectrum transition under way. Should note TWC was having issues with the Motorola 6190's at one time. People weren't getting proper speeds with them a while back...IDK if other markets were also affected. Run as a basic IPv4 Ethernet setup...cat 6 b/t modem/router and 5e's to the devices on the other side of the router...simply because that is what I had on hand. Regularly connected devices have IP's bound in DHCP, the important ones like gaming consoles/PC's are also manually configured as statics with actual DNS server addresses listed. Consoles are wired. ISP tech once caught signs of fragmentation to PSN that cleared when we dropped MTU to 1400...it resolved disconnects to PSN for the PS3 so I've left it there and also use 1400 for the PS4. IPv6 is disabled, UPnP is enabled on the router as well as the PS3...but disabled for all Windows boxes except one, a media server that manages remote access ports via UPnP. No manual port forwards are set. I have left the router set to respond to pings as well. We are still wrangling with some signalling issues in the Carolinas and it is hellaconvenient to ping the network from different locations when necessary. So long as things are good coming through the Carolinas (and sometimes Atlanta), gameplay is just fine for me for the most part. Still see the oddball red bars with other players, but it isn't usually game breaking. Not prone to the "connecting to Destiny" messages on the PS4. Load times suck on the PS3, so can see them there...but I play on the PS4 now. Only boot into the PS3 to keep it updated so I have it as a backup plan if the PS4 isn't available.

          • Hello. I moved your thread to the #help forum. It sounds like you have a "Double NAT" issue. You may want to set up your modem/router in a "Bridged Mode". More info can be found here: https://www.bungie.net/7_Common-Networking-and-Hardware-Issues/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13602
