I am sorry, but this has been building up for a while and needs to be said. If your character has gone all the way from level 1 to 40 without using the Spark of Light, sticking to one subclass the whole way, then you should NOT still be levelling that subclass weeks after you reach that level.
People say "Oh, just equip the subclass you want when turning in bounties", but that does barely anything.
I spent about 2 weeks filling the last circle on my Warlock's Voidwalker subclass, and an entire day's worth of bounties only filled the circle about 1/20 of the way. Completing a crucible match fills the gauge more than this, but it's still nothing more than a measly trickle.
Completing that subclass a few days ago felt so good and so bad. Good because it took so long and I was glad to have gotten it over with, and bad because it took so long and I now have to do the same exact thing with the other two subclasses on my Warlock and all 2 & 1/4 subclasses I still have to level up on my Titan.
I don't know how many people think about this, but when it comes to endgame activities (Raid, Trials, IB, etc) you NEED to have a specific fully levelled up subclass.
In the Raid? Titans are nearly ALWAYS expected to equip Defender, a subclass I have yet to even touch. Hunters also need to have tether (not as angry about that one since I''ve already maxed my Hunter's subclasses) to use on the bosses and the adds in the Oryx fight.
In Trials? Warlocks are expected to be able to be self-raisins (subclass I've only just started) 90% of the time, and the other 10% are the people who are REALLY confident in their ability to stay alive and go Stormcaller instead.
I know you're probably going to tell me "you don't need to fully level them up", but that white border around the subclass and the green bar partially across the bottom both serve as a constant reminder of the stuff I have yet to do, the things I have to do in order to feel accomplished. This is something that relentlessly torments me until I finally have it finished, something that nags me every time my eyes gloss over it.
I will be completely unable to play the game for recreational purposes until this is done. I should not have to go through all this crap just to enjoy something I've already spent so much money on, and neither should anybody else.
Please, Bungie, reduce the XP required to level up our subclasses.
