So I had this thought after I watched the Expendables (shitty story, sweet action), and I thought: our Guardians are masters of combat, except when it comes to hand fights. How sweet would it be if an NPC came in for a melee you could counter them? Granted you couldn't counter bigger NPC's like bosses or majors, but if the smaller enemies tried to swipe you, you could make them seriously regret it. Now it would take really good timing, since most enemies melees are over in an instant. Here's a couple ideas of how some classes would counter some enemies, and if they'd kill/damage them
TITAN:
Thrall - catches it by the throat and slams it on the ground; kill
Acolyte - catches it's swinging arm with an overhook, breaks it, then punches through it with the other arm; kill
Knight (Sword) - sidesteps the overhead swing, throws a front kick to the chest; knockback/damage
Dreg - catches the swinging arm with both hands, throws it with a hip toss, stomps on its head on the ground; kill
Vandal - catches both arms by the wrists, breaks them causing the blades to fall, headbutts it; kill
Captain (Sword) - deflects the swords into the ground so they stick, grabs it's head with both hands and knees it; stun/damage
HUNTER:
Thrall - stabs a knife into chest, palm strikes the knife; kill
Acolyte - front kicks a leg breaking it, stabs it in the collarbone as it falls foward; kill
Knight (Sword) - dodges the swing, ducks behind it and stabs it in the back, kicks it away; knockback/damage
Dreg - Stabs the swinging arm, throws a flurry of punches to the chest/head; kill
Vandal - disarms and takes a sword, slashes a leg off, stabs sword in its chest as it falls; kill
Captain (Sword) - dodges a series of swings, jumps up and knees it's head, throws knife at it as it stumbles back; knockback/damage
WARLOCK:
Thrall - sweeps it's legs, "force pushes" it's head when it's on the ground, smashes it; kill
Acolyte - "force pushes" it's swinging arm, spinning it around, snaps it's neck; kill
Knight (Sword) - deflects the sword into the ground, "force pushes" it's legs out from under it, roundhouse kicks it's face; stun/knockback
Dreg - as it comes in to hit blasts it with both hands hard enough to obliterate it; kill
Vandal - blinks behind it as it swings, "force pushes" it's back, snaps the spine; kill
Captain (Sword) - repeatedly blasts it with "force pushes" and knocks it back, sprints and dropkicks it's chest; knockback/damage
Well folks, highly doubt anything like this would be implemented in any expansion, but future installments could see something similar.... right?
Edit 1: Epiphany. Bungie can make player animations for new dance moves, right? How much more coding would be required for it to be combat related? Just a thought.
Edit 2: "Gotta keep the T rating"
Halo 5 has assassinations, and is rated T. I believe as long as they're not graphic, like DOOM, then there really isn't an issue. I mean, we're already killing thousands of aliens/each other, why would doing it with my hands make it so much worse?
Edit 3: I've played Gears of War 1-3, played Mortal Kombat way back in the day, haven't played the new DOOM, haven't played God of War. I think that covers about 30% of the comments here.
Edit 4: Amazing, isn't it? That despite this post only proposing these ideas for PVE, the forums are ALREADY saying that it would be unfair in PVP. My goodness, you guys know that not everything in this game needs to cater to PVP, right?

Edited by CozmicClockwork: 6/2/2016 5:49:20 AMI always thought assasinations would be cool. Here's what I thought they would be for the classes. Titan For most enemies they would just snap the neck with their bare hands but for vex they would grab the core and rip it out before crushing it like a soda can. Hunter Simple neck slice for most enemies and they would jab their knife into the vex cores Warlock By far the most gruesome ironically. They would grab onto the enemie's persicion spot before force blasting it blowing up the spot. It ends up looking like a normal persicion kill in the end.

Go for it! Being able to devastate enemies with a well timed melee would really make guardians feel more powerful without breaking the game. Also, it might even be cool to have it be a reward for hitting a certain level with factions (vanguard/crucible included). In-game, it would make sense that after a player has mastered "the basics" of combat, they'd get to learn advanced techniques. But that's just a thought. Well done, wither way!
-
If it wasn't rated T then it might be implemented. Then again like you said, as long as it isn't gory it might get put in.
-
I think it would have to be rated M for these but I'm all for that anyway.
-
What about subclass specific executions like bladancers would be like the flash with stabbing, Titans can beat a captain with its hammers, and then warlocks can set fire to its enemies or send enemies launching in the sky or wall
but it would be cool to be like scorpion
-
Imagine running through patrol and seeing a six man team doing this, that'd be amazing
-
Why not make it like a halo beat down
-
warlocks could do a thing where they suck the soul/essence/darkness out of enemies with their palms then the enemy just collapses
-
Could us warlocks counter from further away? (∩ ゚ ͜ʖ ゚)⊃━☆゚.*
-
You punch them and they stagger. Problem solved.
-
These are too violent for Destiny, unfortunately.
-
Yeah most shooters have very poor melee systems. I was thinking there already was a stagger mechanic associated with swords and sword blocks. But many RPG style games forsake better animations and actual model hits for consistency.
-
Bump for original idea.
-
I hope destiny 2 is a bit darker and M rated
-
No goblins or legionaries or harpies or shanks or psions?
-
Found out yesterday that legendary and exotic swords have a counter mechanic, when you hit someone with a sword and they are meleeing you at the right time you deal 2/3 damage and stagger back in an exaggerated stun animation.
-
GUYS THIS IS FOR PVE NOT PVP!!! (why am I yelling?)
-
This game would become rated M for the violence and blood and loose a chunk of its younger audience
-
Too much like Doom 😂
-
Or not do that and incorporate knives? Hand weapons?!
-
Edited by Usedtobeabear: 6/1/2016 3:43:36 AMI can't be the only one who immediately thought of DOOM I am not
-
So I feel like this is a new play on assassinations from reach
-
-
So your basically saying what bungie should have done since the beginning
assassination
-
Yup that's in Bungies abilities. Microtransaction here we come. Dead Space is where you would find this.
