Strength of the Pack Ch. 18: No Easy Way Out

"I do not know. They would not tell me. All I know is that it involved Eris and some other Hive fanatics debating about something." Arc gave Dakota a holo-tablet. James nudged Blake with his elbow as he laughed. Blake, pissed, kept looking forward. "F*** off, James." "And the Vanguard sent you here to deliver this to us?" asked Dakota. "No. I was already sent up here by... Either way, Ikora discovered I was coming up here, so she made me a messager boy." Arc continued. Arc turned around and was about to leave. "Why were you sent up here?" asked Dakota. Arc looked back to us. "Uh.. I must find something." "What are you looking for?" asked Dakota. "Uh... that will remain classified." Arc continued to leave. Dakota looked to me. "Follow him..." Like I was told, I shadowed the hunter as he dissapeared in the hallway. There were two different directions he could of gone. I looked in the earth for tracks, but there was none. "Colt. What do you think? Left or right?" I asked. "Let's see... Your right arm is missing, your right arm had bad luck. Right is bad luck. Go left." Colt acted like he was weighing pros and cons. "That was uncalled for on so many levels." I said slightly upset. "You asked for help." he replied. Nonetheless, I went left. We entered a large room that was divided by a canyon. It stretched for miles and miles in either direction. At first, there were no signs of Arc, or his target. Suddenly, I heard a large door open, and I saw a Taken minotaur try to walk in. A Truth rocket soared through the air and destroyed the minotaur. Whatever Arc was doing here, it revolved around that Taken! I rushed along the wall, down the narrow path, to the remains and looked around. Something caught my eye, a small crystal. Colt looked at it as well. "A simulation core? What the h*** does he want with a simulation core?" All of the sudden, Arc pounced on me! My head dangled over the canyon as he held a knife to my throat. "This must be the bad neighborhood of the Solar System!" said Colt as he took the core. "Give me the core, or you die!" demanded Arc. "You got some big claims, but we got the advantage!" I yelled back. Colt whistled to Arc and pretended to drop the core as he flew over the canyon. Arc slid the knife across my neck, cutting into the fabric of my armor. "Give. Me. The. Core." "Who are you working for?" I asked. "Give me the core! I can't have you interfering!" Arc slid the knife more, cutting into me. "If you kill me, you lose the core. Two raid teams will seek you out. You will be under Vanguard arrest. And.. locked in the Prison of Elders." I said, cringing in pain. Arc got up and wiped the blood off his knife. I got up and tied a piece of cloth around my neck. Arc had turned away from away from me when Colt gave me the core. Once I hand the device in hand, Arc spun around at lightning speeds! I held up my arm and blocked his knife. "Nah ah ahh." I held the core over the edge. Arc stared at my arm for a moment, then put down his knife. I took it and led Arc back to the team. When we got back to the team, I gave Dakota the core. Dakota looked at the object then looked to Arc. "This is the last time I will ask: Who are you working for?" "Lakshmi and Osiris." answered Arc. "Osiris lives? I thought only his disciples remained." whispered Blake. "So, what are you doing with this? This is most common in the Vault of Glass." Dakota tossed the core up a few times. "You wouldn't understand." said Arc. "Try me. I've seen the Vault. I know its horrors!" "Uh, Dakota. This is getting tied in with Future War Cult, and Osiris. Personally, I want to save that for the Vanguard." said James. "You're right. We got more pressing matters to attend to." Dakota looked to Arc. "If this is Tower business, you are free to go. If you attack one of my men, you will be at my mercy!" I took Arc's knife and threw it at him. It flew past his head and stuck into the wall behind him. "Thank you." Arc pulled his knife from the wall and left. "Well, that was eventful." said as he inspected my neck. "So, what happened?" asked Dakota. "Well, after I recovered the core from the Vex, he held me at knife point. Colt and I blackmailed him by tempting to drop it, and we brought him to you..." I say before being interupted. "You bargained for your life by 'dropping' it? I mean, the core didn't even look fragile!" exclaimed James. "There's a huge a-" "COLT!" cried Susan. "There's a huge canyon just south of us." continued Colt. "And my gosh woman! Can't we speak? Free nation?! Freedom of speech?! Ring a bell?!" he yelled looking to Susan. "Does it look like we're in America?" asked Susan. Colt looked around at all the odd architecture. The strange Hive in the distance. The almost visible foul air. "It could be mistaken..." "Now, knowing he is tied in with Osiris AND Future War Cult, and possibly even that strange exo, lady, thing, I don't think he was wanting to kill me. He just didn't want us getting in the way of his job." I replied as I tilted my head up. "Yeah. Future War Cult are extremists and don't settle for much. Plus, if he wanted to kill you, he could." Blake added. "Yeah. He could have... So! What did I miss?" I asked. "We might know how to get to Oryx and kill him. Thanks to Eris." Dakota held out the tablet. "And others..." said James as he nudged Blake again. Blake took a deep breath in and punched James in the face. James stumbled back. "I deserved that..." he said just before falling to the ground. "Anyways, Oryx is possibly hidden in a location called Altar of Oryx. It is visible from outside but a barrier keeps us from flying in." Dakota read the holo-tablet. "How do we reach him then?" I asked. "A series of ruptures." "Then, I can avenge my Queen!" Morin pounded his fist in his palm. As we walked, something occurred to me. "Has there been any reports of Phantom again? Still haven't killed that ba-" "Alan..." Susan warned. "Yes, mother." I said mockingly. "Wait. James? We have a son?" Susan asked jokingly. "Susan. You're not my wife. You act like my wife..." said James after taking a deep breath. "One, you kept it hidden from your 'wife'. Two, you still haven't accepted that this hunter is your son. WORLD'S GREATEST DAD RIGHT HERE!!" yelled Blake. "Would you accept a hunter for a son?" asked James. "Touche." "Hey!" I yelled. "My dad's a titan." "He must be disappointed..." said Blake. "Well, f*** you..." That one really hurt. "I'm.. I'm sorry. That was mean." Blake patted my head. "Susan! You let Alan say a cuss word, but not me?! That's f-" "COLT!!" "COME ON!!" "By the way, no. Phantom has not made another appearance yet. When he does: We. Will. Kill. Him." answered Dakota. "What about Robinsun's team and 'Tae Ken' is it?" I asked, stepping away from Blake. "Nothin'. Short-range communication is jammed." James tapped on his helmet. "I think they are a capable team. They can hold their own." Blake crossed his arms. "Eh. Not all of them. Only three were men..." said James. "You know that is not at all what I meant." barked Blake.
