My problem is when I get matched up against people who are far, far better than.
I play casually and all the fun is gone when I'm constantly stomped on.
I don't want to be put in games where I can just stomp all the time, what I want is to be paired with and against similar level opponents.

I think the argument that most SBMM supporters stick by is that the better players just want to stomp all the time, hence why the hate SBMM. Everyone wants to do well, but I'd much prefer a better connection and have the option to relax occasionally. No one pub stomps every single game in CoD, which uses CBMM with no problems.

Why don't you have an account linked? You people who just want to "relax" don't realize that those of us who are casual PVP players with a sub 1.0 k/d don't get to relax. At least with SBMM we get matched up in games where we can compete. Before that it was just go in and get slaughtered.

^^ exactly! "Relaxed" and "pvp" together?? Not in my scrub world 😂 I have to agree with mtash and company, sbmm has made pvp at least worth making an effort, before I would get destroyed so fast I couldn't tell what happened. Now I'm at least able to see what I'm doing wrong and work toward improving.

In CBMM, the matchmaking it supposed to be random, just finding players locally. Given that the majority of players tend to be in the ~1.0k/d bracket, it shouldn't be too much of a problem finding players at your level anyway. As for my stats, I haven't checked lately but I believe they're around 1.5. By relaxing I mean using a monte carlo and a fusion rifle, still trying to win obviously.

So why not link your account? As far as the majority of people being at 1.0, if I recall correctly that is wrong. 1.0 k/d is top 10-20%. Bungie put out some info regarding this back when they let the cat out if the bag about SBMM. Their goal was to normalize the bell curve with 1.0 being right in the middle. I agree with you that you should be able to use the weapons you want to use. I think that comes down to each weapons "balance" crating a new meta. I really wish that all weapon types could be viable in PVP if used properly. But it always seems like 1 or 2 weapons rise to the top with each tweak.

It was just an estimate, I shouldn't have made it seem like it was fact. I agree with the weapon balancing, if there specifically wasn't a loadout that was superior to all the others (such as hawksaw and party crasher/1000-yard aim assist), maybe SBMM wouldn't be so bad. Just the connections then.
