Moderation Feedback. Extensive Thread

After waiting days for a Ninja to finally respond, I got my situation explained. So I thought I'd share some Constructive Criticism. Baseless Warnings - So I learned that Users can get Harassment Warnings for arguing with another User (with insults/or without). You if you continue a heated debate with someone you can, and will be hit with Harassment Warnings.... What are the problems with this. 1) It is not only impolite, it's really misleading. - It leads people to believe they have broken the CoC, even though they haven't. And the Ninjas just want them to knock of the argument. Why not just send a message to the Users, instead of a Moderation action... This can have unintended consequences... 2) If you didn't know, Harassment violations can get you banned for 100s of years, yet spamming Porn/gore will get you a week ban. So not only is the Warning system being misused, the consequences of this can be ridiculous. If you get a legit Ban for harassing someone, yet has a history of "harassment warnings"(even though they may have not been actual harassment), the ninja will look at that history, not individually, just that you are a "repeat harasser", so because of this misuse, you could be permaBanned because of a technicality. 3) It gives you a bad record, I don't know about all of yous, but some people give a damn about their account. I certainly do, many other Users do. So if you are given a Warning for arguing (yet - classed as harassment), you can/will be treated as a lesser User by Bungie employees and Ninjas, even mentors... Solution - If a Ninja has a thinks a argument is getting too heated, or dragging out. Just send them a message, politely asking them to knock it off. An informal Warning - basically. I know some Ninjas do this, which is good of them, but the general Ninja population needs to take this on board. They need to start listening to there Community. This should become Official Policy. - Why am I directing this post at Ninjas? Because why would Bungie listen to some Alternate account.... who's main has been banned for "Harassment". I now know the reasons behind the ban, yet it is still listed as "Harassment". So, this is directed at Ninjas, so if they agree with this, they can influence official policy. Appeals - Why.... why are these gone. These were a great way of communicating with Ninjas about your Warnings/Bans. Now Ninjas just expect you to Private Message them. Couple problems with the Current system. 1) You don't know which Ninja Moderated you. So all you get from this Ninja is - "Play Nice". So you have just been moderated by "Anonymous User", you don't know who to communicate about it with, and all you get is "Play Nice". That is a really great way to piss Users off by the way... 2) Ninjas don't reply. (This may be a time based thing) I messaged many Ninjas about my issues. Some of them responded. Yet all they done was - 1> Outright dismiss me. 2> I'l get back to you - 2 days ago. 3> Avoid talking about it. Only one of them days later, found my rants, and actually responded appropriately. So my rants did accomplish something. I have heard from many others, that Ninjas just don't answer PMs, so this is a problem. 3) The Moderation Notifications are useless. All they do is tell you what offending Content has been removed, it does not state why it was removed, just a vague
"Violation of the Personal Attacks/Harassment clause of Code of Conduct. The Offending Content has been removed. Future violations will result in a Ban, "PLAY NICE".
This does not provide any closure, or reasoning. As I showed up above, you can be given a Moderation action for Reason "X" - even tho reason "X" was unrelated. The whole system is a mess. So the Notifications just leave you standing there, confused, and infuriated by the "Play Nice" trolling by Bungie - Which really has to go... Solution - Bring back appeals, so the User knows which Ninja moderated them, and can privately discuss it with said Ninja (instead of being told to PM Offline Ninjas.... - You can PM the active Ninja who just censored you. This way Ninjas can't cop out of the Conversation, they are actually forced to have a respectful conversation (I'l look into it - 2 days ago...). With Appeals, Moderation Notifications wouldn't have to provide reasoning, the Ninja can. Don't forget to "Play nice"... • Allow me to respond to some of your complaints. It seems there is a fair amount of speculation and misinformation involved. You say you learned that users can get warned for arguing with other users with or without insults. Where did you learn this? In my experience, because the warning is private communication, people tend to leave out details of their warnings and bans. They claim they only disagreed with someone else and leave out the part where they called them names and were extremely disrespectful in their responses. You make several assumptions that need clarification. How do you know that people are banned for hundreds of years for harassment? Why do you believe porn gets only 7 days? Who was permabanned on a "technicality?" We are human, and we do sometimes make mistakes, but the vast majority of the time we are quite consistent. We are always discussing our decisions amongst each other. You complain that warnings give you a bad record, and that sending a message to a user telling them to knock it off instead of a warning would be a better solution. I disagree. That is precisely what a warning is. A message to the user telling them to knock it off. The user is still free to continue posting. And other ninjas can be aware of the situation. It's important to know when a user is ignoring warnings. You are correct that warnings and bans occasionally are labeled with the wrong reason. As I said, we are human. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Without going into too much detail, we can see that on our end. It won't impact users that much beyond the initial confusion. Appeals are not gone. They just go through Cozmo. But just because you can appeal, doesn't mean it's going to be accepted. Ninjas are anonymous as a matter of protection. After all, we are simply community members like you. We volunteer to do this. People's reactions can be over the top sometimes. I do agree there is an opportunity with notifications, specifically on the mobile app. As the balance of users has tipped towards mobile, it's becoming more important to get this right. I know it is so,do thing that is being discussed. Please feel free to send me or any other ninja a PM if you have any questions. Keep in mind, we will not discuss moderation decisions about users other than yourself. I hope this helps.

We're aware that the moderation notifications via the app are not informative. However, you can log onto the site from a browser and the notification has more information, including the reason (e.g. Personal attacks/harassment), ban expiration (if banned), and link to the offending post. I just double-checked and I did not receive a message from you. However, you are correct that we're not always on all the time. I do my best to respond, but it may take a bit to get back to you if I'm busy or sleeping ;) I don't know the details of your warning, but attacking someone personally versus the merits of their conversation is a violation of the CoC.
